I bought this book for one of my children for a summer reading project. I needed a specific version and was glad I could search Amazon by ISBN. The book arrived quickly and the price was reasonable. I'm sure other family members will enjoy the book when the projcet is complete.

Although the story is well known to me, the editing of this audio book was so confusing. I absolutely could not follow it. Too much is cut out.

Story has good twists, but there are too many French places and people which makes the audio confusing.

The book is excelent reading but please get a different version.
This version only has 580 or so pages where as other versions have over 1,300 pages. That means that this version is only half the story.
So much gets lost in translation already don't cheat yourself even more.

This is one of those classic novels that you could read again and again. I hadn't read it since high school twenty years ago and just re-read Christy last week. I like it even better now than I did then (and I loved it then, too). I would have loved to have had Catherine Marshall's version of a sequel (hopefully it would have consisted of a continuation of Neil & Christy's romance), but I guess we get to imagine the "happily ever after" instead. It's a great read!

Sorry, but the glut of coincidences and melodramatic writing was just too much. I'm going back to my nonfiction now.

I just read this book and what can I say except that it was amazing. I actually prefer Neil to David. David was never very consistent in his faith he was good talker but he had no understanding. I recomend this book to anyone who already has faith or is struggling to find theirs. Read this book! You won't be sorry!

I really enjoyed this book. I also enjoyed the fact that many of the events in the book are in the series released on DVD. I would have preferred if certain subjects had not been discussed in this book so that it would be more appropriate for younger ages. Other than that it was a really enjoyable read.

This is one of my very favorite books! I've read it over so many times and never get tired of it. It's just so interesting, captivating and touching.

My 11 month old son loves this book and has since he was little. He loves the cadence of my voice as I read the clever rhyming story and he loves the pictures. However for younger children like him this book is also available in a board book format. Just search amazon for bear snores on board book.

This book was given to us when our boy was born and it's been a favorite for his two years of life. We've given this as a gift now many times.

This book is one of our favorites. Great, original verse, lots of cute animals, and a repeating phrase make our 2-year-old pay attention. The other "Bear" books don't seem as original to me. We give this book as gifts, and everyone loves it!

5 stars for this magnificent family book! Why? I have to very inquisitive daughters who ask many questions. Of course many relate to the natural world, more specifically insects and animals. When the inevitable questions come I say "C'mon let's check the book". We check this book often and have spent hours going through the pictures. What greater way to spend time with your kids,than learning together. The pictures are beautiful, the information is concise and interesting. A truly great book for the family, for browsing, and the coffee table. Great value! I also recommend D.K. publishing's HUMAN. Another amazing book.

Great! Very detailed information but not too lengthy. Nice for quick reference. Clear photographs. It's a thick book with lots of information but it is very organized. Not just about basic animals but nearly every known animals in the world and the areas they live in. I would recommended it for kids, teens, and adults alike.

This is the book I've been looking for- tons of information and beautiful pictures. I highly recommend.

This book is filled with incredible pictures. It also contains topical infromation on different animals. The book is broken into sections that allows the reader to look up information easily. DK gives us another high quality informative book. A must have for lovers of animals!

Overall a great valve for the money. Pictures are clear and all in color. Explaines well the breakdown of species. For a book at this price it cannot be beat, but there are some items that I think should have been included. The first is the average life span of the species. It's mentioned for very few animals but it always facinates me to realize how long or short some of these animals live for. Another puzzling exclusion from the book is that humans are not included ... unless humans are not considered part of the Animal Kingdom. Puzzling choice not to include humans.

I've always fascinated by magic. And for those guys who like to entertain the women, will find an absolute importance of magic in their routine. The tricks in this book are ranging in difficulty and definitely require times, energy and whole lot of practices to execute.

I was expecting there will be lots of impromptu magics, the kinds I like to entertain people. Quite dissapointed to find the section to be basic and not very impressive. However, if you are a professional magician without this book, you'll be like a man in LA without a car. Thus I can say that this book is critical and mainly focused for stage magicians.

This book is wonderful for anyone wanting to learn magic tricks. This book explains how each trick will appear to the audience and then gives very detailed instructions with drawings showing each step. I used the information in the book to teach rope tricks to a bunch of third grade cubscouts. The parents were so impressed with the tricks that they wanted to learn them too.

Many times applauded, this classic for teaching magic is practically unequaled. If you want to learn magic from scratch, this book is what you need.

I have a library full of Magic books. This is definitely in the top of my recommended list for magic books.

I find it hard to give any book 5 stars but this one definitely deserves it.

If you are interested in magic and want a good book to start or to have for reference just buy this one without further thought.

This series is FANTASIC! I highly recommend it. Very compelling, you won't want to put it down.

This books is so, so, so good! Rain Tairen Soul has spent 1000 years suffering from the negative effects of something he did when his heart mate was killed during a big war. He is desperate because his people & their creature/companions are dying out so he consults a crystal that shows him that their only hope for survival rests on his true mate, Elysetta. He has to convince a shy, mortal girl that she is his true mate & queen, get her to acknowledge her powers & role in his culture. He's a real hottie, she's nice (although her innocence gets rather annoying at times), and the adventures going on throughout the book are addictive. Can't say enough good things about it!

I, like a few others, do not normally read paranormal/fantasy romances. I purchased both Lord of the Fading Lands and Lady of Light and Shadows. I'm so glad I did because once Lord was over I couldn't wait to jump in to Lady.

I LOVED the language you created. "Ver reisa ku'chae. Kem surah, shei'tani." This author took a few words and made me think of them long after I put the book down. I'm my opinion, that's creative genius!

Thank you for taking me into the world you created and leaving the bonds of my very average world behind. I'm anxiously awaiting the next 2 books in the series.

Everyone- buy these books!

I just finished reading Lord of the Fading Lands, and I have to say the only word that comes to my mind is disappointment. I seem to be in the minority, but I still wanted to post my review to voice some of the negatives I found. I was really looking forward to reading this book after finishing the Warlands Chronicles by Elizabeth Vaughan, as it was highly recommended by her readers. I was enthralled by the story of Ellie and Rain from multiple reviews and ran to my local book store to pick up my own copy. I was at once captivated, but as the book progressed regret seeped in, since my high expectations were not met. Here's why.

1. I was surprised to see quite a few similarities to one of my favorite fantasy series' The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. My amazement had to do with the fact that this book is a romantic fantasy novel while WoT is epic fantasy, but there were parallels nonetheless. For example the death of Rain's mate triggered his rage and subsequent insanity which resulted in deaths of thousands of people. In WoT, Lews Therin Telamon went insane and broke the world after finding his Elyena dead. Also Rain is tairen (winged feline), while Lews Therin Telamon is the dragon - somewhat similar. Ellie is a poor woodcrafter's daughter, while Rand (the protagonist of WoT) is a poor shepherd. There is the light and the dark lord which is pretty much identical to the WoT, and the main similarity is the magic - five powers being wielded by the fey, which is exactly the same magic used by Channelers in the WoT. I'm not saying that these points are identical, just akin to one another.

I would be greatly surprised if C.L. Wilson never read the WoT, since there are too many likenesses between the two. That in itself is not what bothered me, since most of the fantasy writers draw from their favorite authors, legends, myths, religions, etc. What I didn't like though is the fact that even those attributes that I absolutely loved in the WoT fell flat for me in this book. Everything felt rushed, the heroes revealed too much too soon.

2. This brings me to my second point. Right from the start we are thrown into Celierian court intrigue, Feyan politics, Elden mage machinations, on top of Ellie's forced betrothal to Dan, family issues, new status as the Feyan Queen, her soul bond to Rain, search for her origin, and a number of other threads. This all happens in the first half of the book, when we are still trying to learn the characters and get used to the new world. It's like the author had all these ideas and tried to cram them into a less then 400 page book, and then tried to confuse the reader even further by adding words/sentences from a Fey language (for which no dictionary was provided by the way). I think the author could've served her readers better by concentrating on a few of the threads and leading them through to a culminating conclusion, versus trying to pack all of her ideas into one small book with no real ending.

3. I found characterization lacking for the most part. Rain killed thousands in his madness and even though I understand why he was left to live, the fact that he is arrogant enough to demand complete obedience from everyone is just ridiculous. The other Fey treat him as a close friend/companion, completely disregarding the madness that visited him before. Is it really gone? Why do they all believe that he is completely sane? How can they trust with such utter devotion when not too long ago by Feyan age he went berserk and almost killed everyone in the world? Marissya calms him down half of the time pointing out his mistakes in losing his tempter, but never have I seen her doubt \ his sanity. Also Rain apologizes to Ellie throughout the book. Either he is continuously aroused, for which he apologizes; or he snaps at her in rage, for which he once again apologizes. Or he forgets to compliment her, for which he apologizes still; or Ellie gets hurt and he nevertheless apologizes yet again for something that was completely out of his control. I found that some of these traits took away from what could've been a great protagonist.

Then there is Ellie, who is a naïve coward at heart with low self esteem. She lets her family put her in a compromising position which results in a forced betrothal, but still holds no grudge against her very unlikeable mother. That alone would be fine with me since it shows her meek acceptance due an unmarried girl of that time. But then in a couple of chapters she snaps at a queen's provocations about her height. So she seems to possess a backbone when mildly insulted by her queen, but when she is being force into marriage to an abusive brute all she can do is cry in her room. Her behavior throughout the book makes no sense, since those unexpected outbursts of spirit come randomly. I also couldn't feel her growth and development since they were baffling and sporadic.

This review is getting too long, so I think I'll try to finish it up. My main complaint about the book was the lack of magic that happens when a captivating story comes alive. I didn't feel it. The idea for the book was great and the cast of characters was well selected, but it lacked development, structure and suspense. Nothing in this book captivated my interest and I felt cheated since I expected so much more.

Ellysetta "Ellie" Baristani has never quite fit in with the others in her village, Celieria. From her flaming red hair to her perception of others, everyone besides her adoptive family finds her a bit odd. Den Brodson, butcher's son, has realized however that being different can be a good thing, and he wants Ellysetta for that elusive something that sets her apart. However when Rain flies into town, he knows Ellie is meant for him and too bad for anyone who gets in his way.

When ancient enemies of the Fey, the mages of Eld, seem to be rallying their forces for a new war, Rain needs the calm Ellie would bring as his mate to defeat them. She must accept the bond willingly or Rain will go insane. As Rain tries to find a way to legally break Ellie's unwanted betrothal to Den, more enemies enter into the fray and Rain and Ellie must bond completely or be destroyed at the hands of their enemies. Love conquers all, but only if it is accepted in time...

There is so much story to the Tairen Soul that it doesn't surprise me Lord of the Fading Lands is just the start to a series. We had a lot of ground to cover here as CL Wilson builds her world and introduces us to the rules of the societies there. The foundation of the mythology tends to bog the story down here and there, but to the author's credit, there's really no way to stop that from happening once in a while with as much as we need to know to understand the story behind Rain. However, even with all the history I still found myself having a hard time keeping all the differences straight in my mind between all the different kinds of magic wielders, good or evil. This is likely an aftereffect of information overload since so much world building needs to be done.

Ellie is dedicated to her family and will do almost anything in her power to see them safe and happy. Almost, being that she refuses to allow herself to be bartered off as a bride to a man she loathes. When Rain shows interest in her, she can't understand why he wants her at the same time she is drawn to him. Her history is quite the mystery until Rain and company come to town and start to unravel the mystery. While the reason she is so different from the rest of her town is no great surprise (I knew exactly what her origins were almost immediately) it was interesting to follow the trails with the other characters to see how they figured out who she is.

I liked the magical spin on the story as to who has what abilities and how those abilities work. Each one of the Fey has a special affinity for a specific kind of elemental magic whereas Rain has mastery of all of them due to his being a rare Tairen (shape shifts into a giant flying black cat with lavender eyes and the ability to breathe fire). In addition to the Fey who are elemental magicians, we have Lady Marissya the Truthspeaker, who has the ability to determine if someone lies merely by touching them.

While I know this has nothing to do with the author's story and is something she has no control over, I find I have to comment anyhow since it seriously affected my reading of the book. What is up with that font size, Dorchester? The font is so incredibly small I had an extremely hard time reading the book! I was actually getting headaches and as a result it took me twice as long to read the book. I've got pretty good eyes and this is the first time I ever had to struggle so much to read a book. I feel sorry for folks who already have a hard time with font size. I noticed book 2 in the series is no better, which means I'm going to have to wait a while before starting it to give my eyes a break! Dorchester if you're paying attention, please have a care in typesetting your books and don't make it so difficult for us to read them!

Pick up any book Brandon has a part of. This guy is remarkable at what he does. I started reading him because i wanted to read a "supernatural" book. When reading the "unreal" it is just that....unreal. But his way of writing will have you wanting more.

This is another great book he has put together. Left me on the edge of my seat expecting more and actually receiving it. Good read. Pick it up

I thought this book was a little over the top. This was the first book I read of Mr. Massey and it didn't really sell me. I will probably try another book of his before I make a final judgement. I love to write and Mr. Massey is inspirational. He is very passionate about his writing and I admire him for making his dream come true. I think the best is still to come with Mr. Massey.

Although the plot was mildly interesting, it was a little too 'far out there' to be truly captivating. I wasn't especially impressed by the author's writing style; I found his repeated inferences to the black culture interupted the material's flow. I most likely won't seek out other works by this author.

Drew (short for Andrew) is a successful novelist who appears to have everything. He has a hit thriller series, a nice large home in Atlanta, several wonderful friends, and is eagerly awaiting his new book deal (which promises to make him hundreds of thousands). The only thing missing is the love of a good woman, or to finally admit that he is in love with his best friend, Carmen. A slave to habit, his life, which is clearly outlined and followed, is disrupted when he meets the "woman of his dreams" (Mika) in Starbucks. She seems, initially, to be everything he wanted....beautiful, smart, rich, sexy and seemingly independent. However, after a night of passion, Mika turns into something he doesn't want and can't handle. As the novel unfolds, Massey introduces an element of the supernatural that promises to hold the attention of the reader until the very end. With a stormy parental relationship with his father, and his mother's psychic dreams, Drew realizes that he is in trouble, but is unsure of how to escape the one he thought that he desired. Filled with psycho cats, a sweet ghost named Sammie, and a scary groundskeeper (Walter), this novel has it all.....a little romance, some mystery, some deaths and a great story. I won't tell you what or who Mika is, reading this novel will tell you that, but I will say that Massey is among the few today who can create a story to be rivaled by Tanarive Due or Octavia Butler. Read this novel and you will not regret it.

So I had to take a break from the romance novels and hit up one of Brandon Massey's new thrillers titled "Within The Shadows".

If you love a good thriller, then this is the book for you! It started off with a bang! It ended with a bang! This book shows you that you should be open for the possiblity of anything happening in your life! The good, the bad and the UGLY!

Brandon's main character Andrew realized all that. He was a creature of habit until the one fatal day he did something he didn't normally do! Yep, it costed him a lot when he stepped out of his normal habit and didn't FOLLOW his CONSCIENCE!!!! True enough some good came out of it. BUT a whole lot of bad and ugly came out of it ti! It was a great tale of friends, family, and lust!

Take a ride with Andrew as he deals with writing a book, selling his 4th novel, sex, love, and the ghostly adventures!!!!!

The topics covered are vast so doing justice to every aspect of sourcing is hard. I only wish the authors had brought in further depth in a topics like Risks (with a capital R) Governance, SLAs and other operational challenges .

Overall a good guide book for those looking for an overview on the topic.

This book is excellent. It discusses why outsourcing is essential for doing business and the process requried to do so. It is straight forward, good for not only for Companies interested to outsource, but also anybody who is interested to learn about outsourcing.

The book offered very useful information and guidelines that could immediately apply to our work. Additionally, the author has revealed a new path to business knowledge, offering further opportunities to pursue the successful implementation of company strategic goals in an ever-changing and challenging business environment.

With Lou Dobbs and a host of others focusing only on the negative aspects of outsourcing, it's refreshing to see someone talk about how outsourcing can drive economic growth also. The dominance of service businesses is restructuring the economy and, like all change, some of it will be painful. Good jobs will come from value-added activity, not by bemoaning the inevitable. Outsourcing is just another way that the market exposes management inefficiency.

This follow up to Lord of the Fading Lands is FANTASTIC! I highly recommend this one. This series is so compelling you won't want to put it down. If you don't already have the first one, make sure you buy both b/c you won't want to wait for the 2nd one to come in the mail - its that good!

Followup to Lord of the Fading Lands. The romance between Elysetta & Rain continues, lots of political intrigue and adventure, and Elysetta comes into her powers in a most satifying way (no more wimpy doormat! I feel like singing!).

This is the second book in the series. The first is Lord of the Fading Lands, These books are a must read they are awsome, if you love a great story with lots of turns that keep you guessing you will love them. They are one of the greatest stories I have ever read....

The next book comes out in Sept. of 2008

This book the second in a series by a brand new author. The first in the series is LORD OF THE FADING LANDS, and her next two in the series come out in Oct and Nov of this year.

This book was well written with great character developement between the leading characters. This book starts off at the exact spot that the other one ended.

I won't go into a synops for others have done that. This book would also be a great read for a YA or your teenage daugther for there is only one very very mild love/sex scene at the very end of the book and it is very tastefully done so that you would not be embarrased.

I have recommended this series to everyone I meet. It's a keeper. C.L. Wilson weaves her story where you don't want the book or the series to end, and I still in awe that this is only her second book for she is tht good.

Keep it up C.L. Wilson!!

I am not ordinarily a fan of so called romance novels, but this continuation of the Tairen Soul books is certainly far more than a mere romance. The author creates a fantasy world that is full of intrigue, and characters that are compelling and complete whether good or evil. This should be listed in the fantasy fiction category for while there is compelling romance, it doesn't take over the whole story line. I love it and I can't wait until the next books are available.

There are an awful lot of dead bodies per capita in this book, and quite a bit of fairly mindless violence, but that said, it's a page-turner that is extremely well written. Unlike other reviewers I found nothing confusing about the elements of the plot, just found some of them unlikely in the extreme (both the ostensible pre-historic Chinese settlers of the Americas and the ostensible pre-historic Phoenician settlers just happen to have come upon and used the same underground and under-river storage caverns? Wouldn't proof of Phoenician settlers of North America alone have been enough??) This is clearly a read oriented more towards boys, but girls who like adventure stories will enjoy it too.

I have to agree with another review the cover of this book just hooked me. This came into the library where I work (5/6 grade) and I immediately snagged it. Read it in one night and have not seen the book on our shelves since!!! It has been out constantly since we put it in the collection. Our kids like it (mainly the boys and our teachers love it!!). There's action and creepiness. The scene in the cave was so vivid I could feel the cold damp and the spongy feel of the body as our hero, Tom, groped his way around in the pitch black. Excellent!!

N.D. Wilson's LEEPIKE RIDGE tells of a preteen who has always lived next to Leepike Ridge - but who finds himself lost beneath it when he escapes the man set to marry his mother and finds his escape raft has left him underground. His discoveries under the ridge - of a body, a dog and more - will answer questions and challenge his survival skills in a riveting adventure kids will relish.

I read a review that made comparisons between this book and Louis Sachar's Holes. This kind of comparison always makes me skeptical. "We'll just see about that," I thought. I read it. I saw. And I get it now. This one is worthy of that comparison -- and then some. And this book will definitely appeal to fans of Holes.

Leepike Ridge is a book for every kid (and every grown kid) who played in refrigerator boxes, caught critters in the woods, and floated down creeks on homemade rafts. It's a fantastic story with a grand adventure, a heroic boy, bad guys that you love to hate, a loyal dog, and a hidden treasure. The fact that it's beautifully written with magical, transporting descriptions is gravy.

If you know and like a boy between the ages of, let's say 9 and 13, Leepike Ridge would make a fantastic gift!

Great fun and very hard to put down.

I have no clue how it would go over for younger readers, but if you're a not-so-young reader, it's a real treat.
