I recently finished writing my first book in nearly 20 years and was looking for information about selling it online. I bought Plug Your Book! by Steve Weber and I'm glad I did. I really had no idea just how drastically the book publishing industry has changed since the 1980's.

One strategy that I started using as a result of reading this book is writing book reviews on Amazon.com (hence this one). I had never written a book review in my life until I read Weber's book. Now I write them all the time.

This is has been one of those rare buying experiences for me - the product I bought actually exceeded my expectations - by a long shot. This book is packed with useful information for authors and publishers. I really don't think you can get this kind of information anywhere else.

I highly recommend Plug Your Book!

I found that the book had some very important and valuable information, giving both pros and cons of different aspects of online marketing...in the rapidly changing field of book publishing, this book is a must read. If you don't use all of the book's suggestions, (I ended up using a totally different web host than those originally suggested in the book because it seemed much more user-friendly to my neophyte sensibilities), it will certainly get you pointed in the right direction. Thanks a bunch to author Steve Weber for laying it all out!!!

I didn't think any book could come with new stuff on this topic but it does. There is some old stuff but plenty of new tricks to get my teeth around in plugging my stuff online. I have been told by publishers that online sales account for 10% of sales - now I am beginning to wonder.

A Concrete, Step by Step Guide to Marketing On Line

Review Date: 2008-09-05
Plug Your Book was recommended to me at a writers' workshop. It is a step by step guide to marketing on line. This is useful information to me, even during the process of writing a book. I use each chapter like a cookbook, opening up a page, opening up a website, and exploring that website according to the principles Weber is explaining. I already knew how to purchase books on Amazon.com. But, through Weber's book, I have learned the process of peer review, how to participate in that process, and how to approach reviewers. All the chapters provide a foundation for me as I write a book. The chapter on author websites explains how an author website is not just an advertisement. There are specific recommendations for designing an author website, or design a website with a newsletter as preparation for publishing a book. I have given myself permission to take as many years as I need to publish my first book. Weber's book provides me, as well as other new authors, with multiple resources for the whole process of writing, publishing, and marketing our work.

I have read at least a dozen titles on book marketing and I believe this to be the most valuable book available for today's world of internet marketing. The great part about online marketing is that you can actually target specific markets and it's usually free.

This book will help you focus your online marketing strategies in several ways:
* Influencing and Understanding the Amazon sales Rank
* Setting up and Effective Website
* Creating an Online Press Kit
* How to Get More Amazon Reviews
* Effective Use of Blogs
* A Page for your Book on Sites like MySpace.com
* Leveraging Social Networking
* Leveraging Amazon.com

This is the only book I've read that doesn't just tell you what to do in terms of book marketing, but it tells you specifically how to do it. It's really the only resource you need for marketing your book.

I have the WORST time ordering on Amazon.com. I ended up with two of these cookbooks (one new and one used). That was after I was told they were out of stock/unavailable. I DON'T want to pay to ship it back!! I have ordered from Amazon.com before and had problems. I will avoid this website in the future!

This is not only a great book of recipes, but the high quality paper and the beautiful pictures make this a perfect coffee table book. Leaf through it when you have a few minutes to get inspired for the next grilled meal.

I cook for myself and I like to keep things simple. When I see interesting recipes that list two or three ingredients that I know I would never have at the same time, I cease to consider making that meal. Most recipes in this book list fairly basic ingredients that most kitchens would have on hand.

The author doesn't just use terms for techniques that many more experienced cooks would know, but gives a little detail on how to do the procedure for the novice. Besides the recipes, many topics on basics are covered in the front of the book. Humor is used on occasion, which can lighten the mood for the harried grill-master with hungry guests to feed.

I liked this book so much, I purchased two more for friends who don't eat to live, but live to eat.

Do you enjoy excellent food? If you have a good grill, you need this book. If you don't have a good grill, you need to buy one to go with this book.

The authors concisely cover the basics of selecting and using a grill, how and when to use direct versus indirect heat, and some general guidelines for cooking various foods. Then they get serious. The recipes in this book are clear and easy to follow, even when they take a bit of preparation. Some require some marinade time, but aside from that, preparation and cooking rarely exceeds an hour total. Pictures accompany all the recipes, which help give you some ideas of the final goal and presentation.

But best of all, the recipes range from very good to fantastic. They present beautifully and taste wonderful.

It is almost unnecessary considering the quality and variety of the included recipes, but the book also contains a section of recipes for rubs and marinades, and even a short treatise on balancing their components, to allow the more adventurous cook to create original recipes.

There are a dozen or more recipes in this book that are individually worth the purchase price. You get all of them and all the good advice and teaching for one price.

Although Weber grills publishes the book, their grills are hardly mentioned - this is far from the kind of book that exists merely to plug one product. (Although I hasten to add that my Weber is a gem!) It is an excellent cookbook that happens to use a grill as the preparation method.

Whether you are new to grilling and want to get started right, or are looking for some new ideas after years or decades of good but routine cookouts, this really is the book you want.

My wife told me that my grilling got 100 times better after I started using this book.

It has great recepies in it, but it also has some great tips on how to properly grill different foods that helped me the most.

This is a fantastic addition to any new griller(like myself), or even a seasoned griller who wants to add something different to their line up.

(P.S. - I recommend the Honey Mustard Chicken, makes a great change to plain old chicken.)

Tihs book is awesome. It takes a gentically altered human, altered to be a eilite commando. Who sees her family wiped out by pirates. Injured and bleeding she is joined with an enetity from Greek Mythology.
She then steels a new state of the art A.I. warship whos "personality" invades her mind. Now three people sharing the same mind. But pirates beware, three minds are certainly in this book better then one and look out because here they come. Edge of you seat action packed, takes a bit to warm up. But after it does, it is all go, go, go. Oh I hope there is a sequal in the wroks.

This is a tidy story that is very deep. Taken at it's word it is a beautiful story. Yet, it whispers of much more. What I really loved about this book is how it affirmed my own love and appreciation of trees. That each tree is unique and that there are some that are very special.

Do you like adventure? If so, read Julie Salamon's The Christmas Tree.
In this book Julie puts a man in charge of finding the perfect tree for Rockefeller Center. This book is an adventure book because the main character has to find the perfect tree before Christmas.
The main character's name is Jesse. Jesse leaves Rockefeller Center a few days before Christmas to find the perfect Christmas tree that everyone at Rockefeller Center would enjoy. On the way to upstate New York. Jesse saw the perfect tree, but this tree wasn't an ordinary tree because it belonged to a nun named Sister Anthony, known as Anna.
Jesse talked to Anna about the tree. This tree was the only friend that Anna had while growing up in the convent. Anna told Jesse a story about her and the tree. Jesse told Anna about why he needed the tree and Anna said that he could take the tree for Rockefeller Center.
The Christmas tree is a symbol enjoyed by all the people at Rockefeller Center, by the crowd, Jesse, and Anna. Anna was glad to see that everyone was enjoying tree.
If you like Christmas, or you just need some time to rest from working, or you just need to read something around a fire on a cold winter's night, this is the right book for you. This book is about sharing and caring at the same time. You should read this book because it is exciting and you can feel what is happening in this story.

I saw the 2006 Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center and felt compelled to read this little book that packs a huge punch. As a New Yorker, I delighted in the setting. The author writes with such visual details, personifying nature, amd the scenes came vividly alive in my mind as I was reading along. And this lovely story provides a gentle reminder of the lessons life has to offer and of the little joys we miss seeing or listening to thoughout the pressures and fast pace of our daily lives.

The GODLY man

Unlike the reviewer who cannot identify with Pastor Stu's military background, there are many who have served this country, that can identify with Pastor Stu's background and his major decision as a Captain in the 5th Special Forces/Ranger with service overseas, including Republic of South Vietnam. I believe his sacrifice to country and his previous role as a soldier (the values of Duty, Honor, Country) makes Pastor Stu more credible and a more powerful advocate of what it is to be a man, a GODLY man. I also believe that had Captain Weber not decided to choose the ministry over the military career, he would have been quite successful in the military and achieve a field grade ranking of General in the U.S. Army. As it turned out, the ministry gained an influential shepherd who has written a number of books that has and will continue to influence other men in their walk with GOD.

There are many worthy insights in this book and the others written by Pastor Stu. It has been some time since reading the book, but I recall that a key decision must be made by all men and that is, "Who is Your Authority?" This is a crossroad..."who will you follow?" With you continue to follow your own personal inclinations, the secular wisdoms of the day, or will you allow GOD to be the authority in your life, the guiding principles of your life, and obey the WORD? It is the most important question for all men to consider and then choose wisely. There are many other Biblically sound teachings that are covered. I will only touch upon one. As Christians who are walking in FAITH, there is a need to eschew being the "lone ranger", the Clint Eastwood-machismo solitary gunfighter that takes on an entire pack of vermin and wastes them all in glorious Hollywood images. Rather, a Christian man needs other GODLY men to stand with them, because the battle against the secular world value system and against evil spiritual principalities cannot be realistically defeated as in a Hollywood-Clint Eastwood shootout type scenario and a symbolic ride into the sunset....NO, Pastor Stu and the Bible identifies the need for comrades-in-arms, "Ranger buddies", other centurions, GOD-fearing warriors who will watch your back and your flank. You need others in this spiritual warfare. Otherwise, you will succumb. He tells it like it is. A strand of 3 cords is tough to break. A group/team of committed GODLY men cannot be defeated. Gideon had his 300. Joshua and Caleb had their forces, albeit invariably outnumbered in their battles, Joshua and Caleb's army prevailed. Obedient to GOD, go to Battle alongside other Christian brothers-in-arms. Put on the full armor of GOD and you will win EVERY Battle. Hope this review helps.

I got this for my husband because it was assigned reading for a Bible study. He is not an avid reader, but he jumped in with both feet and really enjoyed it. Stu is a man everyone could learn from. He redefines 'macho' and, as a woman reading it, makes you long for this tenderness from your own husband. The topics he touches on are supported biblically, statistically and scientifically. A man who can pull from this book and live his life as a 'tender warrior' is truly 'every woman's dream'. I have nothing but good to say about every area of this book. If your husband is at all interested in self and/or spiritual growth, this is a must read.

I just ordered my third copy of this book! In addition to the first one I purchased, I had to replace the one my two year-old grand-daughter has worn out and also buy one for her mother to keep! This is a wonderfully illustrated collection of nursery rhymes that has totally engaged my grand-daughter, so much so that she has memorized most of the rhymes and is cued by the illustrations to repeat them word-for-word. The book contains the most comprehensive collection of nursery rhymes I have seen, does not change the traditional wording of those rhymes, and full-color illustrations cover all pages. Those illustrations are big and bold, not pencil-like and, in my opinion, a bit frightening. My grand-daughter has gained many new words from her love of this book. It is also a grandma joy to hear a two year-old reciting "Hickory Dickory Dock" and so many others from memory. This book will become a keepsake in our family!

Absolutely wondful! Time to replace it!

I bought this book for my daughter 2 years ago. She's now 2 1/2, and this book has been read to her hundreds of times (at her incessant requests) to the point that it is now covered top to bottom in scotch tape! I'm currently online to order a second copy for my 6 month old son (and no doubt to the delight of my daughter!). I can't recommend it enough!

I'm surprised to have read a complaint about the illustrations - I (and my wife, and my daughter, and everybody else who has seen the book at our house) think they are wonderful: bright, detailed, and above all, contextual (something I've wondered about with other nursery rhyme books). I think one should take that comment with a pinch of salt; there's nothing in the least bit inappropriate with the illustrations (the cover is itself an excerpt of the style in question).

My only wish would be that they could print this book on laminated paper so as to avoid all the wear and tear that it receives as our children's favorite! I for one would be happy to pay extra to preserve this book for their children one day!

"Edgy, quirky, dark, mouthy. Worldly-wise and intelligent writing. I sense the strong presence of an author who likes film noir. Underneath, at the base of this, clearly simmers anger AND a very real passion to change what appears the current destination of our lumbering ship of state. A quick read that doesn't quickly dissipate from the mind - kind of like a hefty belt of straight gin. 2008 might be a sub-title for this short novel. Weber could well be the bastard son Orwell never knew he had - if he ever had one."

A gripping contemporary tragedy which mines the uncertain space between fact and fiction in the war on terror of the near future and reveals some of the costs of ignoring the Constitution in the prosecution of the war. Read it as a polemic but also read it as a richly textured examination of ordinary people, people whose lives get tangled up in and perverted by a government gone amok in trying to root out terrorism in all its forms. The characterization of Paul Vines, the professor on a federal grant who struggles with various demons while trying to teach English literature to Germans in Berlin, is particularly compelling. You'll have a hard time putting down this book once you start it.

a fine moral and human geometry - and a good read

Homeland is an amazing job of prediction, and not just (or even primarily) because Weber captures so well the events we have all followed over the last months. He takes us beyond snapshots of body piles - and shocks us with the banality of torture and the ease with which it is institutionalized.
The dangers and possible consequences of the War on Terrorism have been pointed out for some time now and political commentators and journalists have produced many possible future scenaria. Homeland is worth reading - and owning - because of Weber's skill and sensitivity as a teller of cautionary tales. He transcribes the pundits' futures into human terms, anchoring them in everyday life universes both moral and human.
And what timing! More lawyerly deliberations about the line between torture and interrogation have just made the newspapers. The space between Weber's criminal psychologist, Lara Ivans, and his FBI agent and interrogator, Michael James Dougherty, describes a desperate reality which is one consequence of the lawyers' efforts; it is a fine moral and human geometry - and a good read.

Very good political critique, but it could have gone further in its projections. Set in the election year of 2008, the revelations of fascist security measures were less shocking than what we'll probably see in the future. The torture scenes didn't even live up to what torture has already occurred. Good read, but Weber is a cautious futurist.

This book is the third Steve Weber book I have read, the first two being "The Home-Based Bookstore" and "Plug Your Book." I was quite enthusiastic about both of Steve's earlier efforts because they were extremely helpful and Steve wrote both well. Those comments apply to this book also.

The marvelous thing about this book is that it starts with the basics and works up to advanced techniques and clever strategies. When I say basics, I mean the kind of information that someone new to eBay would find helpful. What do certain words mean? How do I, and fill in the blank. Steve covers everything you can think of as a newcomer to eBay. Yet, Steve moves quickly and someone going from occasional seller to wondering about setting up a business can move past the basics easily.

What more is there to learn? Steve provides great advice on where to find more stuff for your eBay business. He also provides guidance for evaluating quality and describing your merchandise. All this advice keeps in mind the need to satisfy customers so that they will give you positive feedback and keep coming back.

Just like those popular television commercials, this is the point where I say, but wait, there is more! Steve discusses how to track stock and where it is located. He reviews several software options to handle an expanding enterprise. Included in his advice are options for the most cost effective method of shipping. Steve then provides a lot of detail on how you can expand your customer base through various techniques for advertising your business. I think there are at least half a dozen techniques for getting your business exposed on the internet, including how to fare well with Google searches.

I am touching on just a few of the numerous topics in the fifteen chapters in this book. There are at least 140 sub-headings in this book covering more topics than I had considered when thinking about selling on eBay. With all this powerful information, Steve did something more amazing; he included input from others. [...]

As with any purchase you make, what you want to know is whether this book is worth buying. If you fancy yourself expanding into eBay as a business, or expanding a current eBay business, or you just want to know how eBay works, then this book is worth far more than its price.

One thing I always notice about self-published books is how well they are written. I was unable to find a single grammar error in this book. Therefore, not only is this book full of valuable information, but that information is nicely organized and reading about that information is a pleasure.

Self-help books often seem like they need help themselves. I have read many self-help books by people claiming to be experts in their particular field of endeavor. When you read these books, you quickly realize that the book babbles on about trivialities or the organization is poor. Worse, some of these books have errors that even a novice recognizes. To find a well-written self-help book by an author who has successfully used the techniques in that book is always a wonder. "eBay 101" is such a book.

Enjoy!

I started selling at eBay in 1995 when there were just 1200 items for sale and only two categories. And I thought I knew everything. Ha! Steve Weber's book has everything. And as a past teacher trainer at Ohio State University and other institutions I can say that Steve wrote this book in the perfect style--large type, space between words and lines, and easy-to-read pictures of eBay screens.

My only advice to the reader is to realize that selling at eBay gets harder and harder as the years pass. Steve makes eBay selling sound like a sure bet. Believe me, it isn't. Of course, he is so much more successful at it than I ever was. Hmmm-I think I'll go back and read the book again and take notes.--Sam Yulish, author of "Where Have All the Hippies Gone?" and many publications for teachers.

This book not only is a great introduction to eBay, it's the best reference book to selling on eBay I've seen because of the extensive glossary, index and guide to those odd acronymns. It's also a realistic guide to selling -- no rose-colored classes. There are not too many illustrations in here but the ones there are a big help. This book is a keeper, I'm going to keep it within arm's reach. From the books I've seen, this one is the most up-to-date also.
