This book was well written with easy to follow suggestions from the toddler years to the teens. I believe following the suggestions will not only help with prevention of drug use, but will help to raise a well adjusted, highly motivated, and well rounded child! I only wish it were around when my children were small! I would highly recommend this book as a gift to anyone who is having a child, or even thinking about becoming a parent! Easy read, with easy to implement suggestions. Thank you Ms. Palmiero!!!

I have had this book for over 3 years and I continue to use it as a source of strength and direction. As life gets busy and stressful, parents also need reminders of the simple things we need to do and discuss with our kids. My children are reaching that age where I'm no longer there in all their social gatherings and this book has been instrumental in having meaningful conversations about their hopes and dreams and how drugs ruin those hopes and dreams. They also know where I stand on drug use without it being a lecture that gets tuned out. I highly recommend this book.

Being a father of two boys, I refer to the book frequently to assist and help me with direction on anti drug messages. The book is a great tool for the average parent seeking easy to read, easy to understand tips. I encourage all parents to purchase one not only for themselves, but as a gift for other parents.

No matter what you have in your kitchen this book can make sauce, presentation and stories that are all memorable. I've never made a recipe from it that didn't meet with "rave reviews". I buy it for all my friends who love true Italian cooking. Flor Alda creates dream meals!

This is truly one of the best cookbooks I have ever used. The recipes are almost exactly what I have been taught by my father and mother who were taught by their Italian parents. The sauces are absolutely delicious and most are pretty simple, just as Italian cooking should be. Simple and fresh ingredients. The bolognese sauce is perfect as well as the pasta and peas and pasta fagiole. This is an excellent addition to any cook's collection and if you were to have only one cookbook for pasta dishes, this should be the one.

This plan title belies the fact that this book gives accurate descriptions for the perfect spicing of nearly every basic italian dish. The linguini con Calamari is unparalleled. Plus its fun hearing how Alan Alda's parents came upon these dishes.

This little booklet finally found me in 1990. A friend shoved it into my hand and said, "Read this. Then we'll talk." The short version of the story is that I have been sober ever since, and the little book has helped me through every crisis since then. I can't tell you how many copies of this book I have personally "worn out," bought and given to others, or just recommended to others in all walks of life, with all sorts of problems. This little book really has answers.

Really helps put life in a clear light.

I have this book on tape. The voice takes a little getting use to but after that it is a great little tape. The author is simple and easy to understand. It tells how to deal with life good and bad and how to be closer with God. The tape helps us to remember that life only has to be lived one day at a time and tells us how to get the most of each day.

Everyone Should Have A Copy of This Booklet!!!

I keep one in my purse and read it often when I'm having a rough day or need a common-sense explanation of life. This should be read by everyone who has ever had a hard time understanding and accepting tough life situations.

Photo Organizer is the main improvement

Perhaps the most pertinent question answered by the book is what are the differences between Elements 2 and 3. If you are an existing E2 user, is there enough incentive to migrate to E3? Huss devotes considerable space to squarely address your concerns.Of the changes, the most useful is Photo Organizer. A huge improvement over File Browser, which is what E2 gave you. PO is well suited for collections of hundreds or thousands of photos. Many people who take photos regularly will run into the scaling constraints of File Browser. PO lets you attach metadata to a photo, in the form of keywords which you can choose as succinct descriptors of the photo. Then, later, if you search for a keyword, PO will return a set of thumbnails of the photos with that metadatum. Picking a thumbnail gives the original image. Very simple to use.If you know HTML, the metadata in PO maps to the tag that can be used in any HTML page.

Serious collectors should welcome PO. The only drawback is that it does not exist in the Mac version of E3; only in the Microsoft version. Huss speculates that Apple's iPhoto is too close in functionality for Adobe to economically develop a Mac version.

What a great book! What separates this book from all the others is the downloaded pictures that you work with as you make your way through the book. I kept the pictures in their chapter folders and put them in a folder called Elements 3: 50 Cool Ways. Then after practicing with them, when Adobe asked me if I wanted to save changes, I said no - so I could practice again and again. I must be slow because I have needed to practice them again. Thanks Dave, for a wonderful book. Will you be doing the same for Elements 4?

This book is not only a pleasure to read, it also was superbly reproduced and technically accurate (not all books are!). Dave Huss goes the extra mile to provide an excellent selection of real world (read: useful) tutorials that cover in detail how to retouch and correct common digital photography problems (color cast, wrinkle removal, panorama assembly, red eye, perspective correction). It also covers common challenges associated with managing digital photo libraries (album assembly, photo cataloging, image management). The photo projects are perfect for newcomers to digital photography (like me) and expose many of the features of Photoshop Elements I needed to get up to speed on fast. Well worth the investment.

The great thing about this book is that Dave works with you one on one by having you download the pictures that are the examples in the book! This way you work on the same picture step by step and you can see what your picture should look like through the edit process. This book is very FUN and INFORMATIONAL! Buy it you won't be sorry!!! And you will do things with this program that you didn't know you personally could do!!!

Reading Age of the Soul was beyond the written words. Jason enabled Rohan to come through him so as to directly communicate to me beyond the physical. The truth and impact of Rohan's words touched my Soul. I felt Rohan with me in the healing meditation and the Chakra Clearing meditation which made it possible for me to communicate with my spirit guides. Rohan has a direct approach which is provocative and really makes you think about the way things are and the way the world is evolving. I especially liked his perspective on healing. This book will move you forward. Make sure you read it.

This book helped me to look inside myself and to be honest with my life, to really get real with who I am. My intuition has opened up, and I finally feel like I belong in this world.
The chapter on being grounded is particularly insightful. It helped me to be totally present and conscious in my everyday life.

All This Way for the Short Ride: Roughstock Sonnets is a rollicking blend of poetry and action-packed, black-and-white photographs celebrating the American West, the ranch way of life, and especially rodeo culture. Written in the continued spirit of the original "Roughneck Sonnets", All This Way for the Short Ride pays especial tribute to the brave men and women who dare to ride fiercely bucking broncos for as many seconds as they can. A collaboration brimming with life, love, and the passion of the strongest roughnecks, highly recommended for western and rodeo fans. " The Night the Devil Danced on Me": A werewolf moon glares / from the top row of the bleachers, horned / owl with one eye plucked. In the black hole / of chute 8, Lonewolf waits - / an ugly bronc, mustang and rank, / the cowboys say, with notched right ear / and snaky, suck-back ways.

8-second poet . . .

This is an entertaining and moving collection of 32 poems by Montana poet Paul Zarzyski, who belongs to that rarified fraternity of rodeo cowboy poets. The intensity and focus required for riding roughstock are transferred into these highly charged poems, and most of them have the headlong intensity of a high-scoring 8-second ride.

Some of my favorite Zarzyski poems are included in this collection: "Buck," a Christmas-time lament for a dead horse; "To Wallace," a tribute to rancher-poet Wallace McRae; "Partner," about the fierce and loving bond between two rodeo friends, dedicated to Montana writer, Kim Zupan; "Monte Carlo Express - Box 258, 15.3 Miles Home," about reading mail while driving a speeding car; and the high-spirited "Escorting Granny to the Potluck Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed at Bowman's Corner." The best, of course, is the title poem, "All This Way for the Short Ride," about the death of another rider.

There's an appreciative foreword by Wyoming-born western writer, Teresa Jordan, and 27 wonderful black-and-white rodeo photographs by Montana photographer Barbara Van Cleve, taken between the years 1971-1996. An excellent addition to any bookshelf of Western literature.

To find that part of each of us that wanted to be a cowboy

I took my wife on a whirlwind vacation of Montana in 1996. One of our stops was the annual Cowboy Poetry Reading in Lewistown. Paul was there to recite "Rosined-Up-'n'-Itchin'-to-Git" and "Monte Carlo Express-Box 258, 15.3 Miles Home." Afterwards I had the great pleasure of meeting him and shaking his hand. I was so impressed by his ability to describe his feelings for the West and for his own personal experiences that I wanted to read more, and was able to find copies of his Roughstock Sonnets and I Am Not A Cowboy. Everything about this man tells you what it's like to live life to the fullest, from the bare-back of a bucking horse. Thank God there are still cowboys among us.

Zarzyski's poems are a journey through the cowboy soul.

Zarzyski is the perfect guide to take us on a journey through the cowboy life - his heart and his soul. But these poems aren't just for cowfolk, horsefolk, and rodeo lovers. "All This Way..." contains some of the most poignant, soul-touching lyrics. The poems seem rough, but once the reader catches the rhythm, it's a beautiful ride! Van Cleve's photos, honest and real, set Zarzyski's works off perfectly. If you are a horse/cow person or just a lover of fine poetry, please experience "All This Way for the Short Ride"! You will be greatly rewarded.

I am a Sharon Sala/Diana McCall fan. I have read most of her books. When I started reading "Whippowill" I was surprised and did not know at first if I would like it. When I read it, I laughed so much I fell in love with the book. Then I read "The Amen Trail". I read it in one day because I could not put it down. I had tears rolling down my cheeks because I laughed so hard. When the book was finished I felt bad because it was finished. I think Sharon Sala out did herself with this one. I hope she adds another book to this series. Thoroughly enjoyable. Laughter is good for the soul and this book really makes you laugh.

This is quite a departure for Sharon Sala. A wonderful departure. This is a sequel to Whippoorwill. I did not read the first, and had no problem getting into this story.

Lettie and Eulis are not the quintessential heroine and hero...at the beginning of the story. However, by the end of the story they are truly hero and heroine material.

Lettie is a reformed good-time-girl. Eulis is a reformed alcoholic. They are fraudulently presenting themselves as a nun and a priest. It may sound sacrilegious, but it is truly not. They have turned their lives around and are attempting to do good, bless the lives of the people around them, and make restitution for their sins.

The people they meet along to way to Colorado are wonderful. The blessings that Lettie and Eulis bring to the lives of the people they spend time with, and vice versa are priceless.

I laughed out loud as I read this story!

Please, read it - you won't be disappointed!

Patten's book is the first picture book that I have seen devoted to the charming island of Anguilla. There are cookbooks and small guidebooks and memoirs, but Anguilla: A Shorter Sleeved Way of Life shows readers a bit of what the island looks like.

The writing is folksy and the photography is good. The only criticism I would give it is that it is a bit short and doesn't try to be encyclopedic in covering all parts of the island. Nevertheless, a great start that is now gracing one of our tables for leisurely reading

This has to be one of the best books I have purchased in YEARS! The photography is stunning, the writing is delicious...it was like I was right in Anguilla. I have been traveling there for a number of years and have several other books about the island but, believe me, none of those books even compare to "Anguilla: A Shorter Sleeved Way of Life." It would be a waste of time and money to get anything but the best, and the best is definitely this book.

Anguilla: A Shorter Sleeved Way of Life
By T.H. Patten, Photography by Jodi A Rumble

A Review by Rita Celestine Carty

The intriguing book blurbs on the back instantly alert the reader to the possibility that this book has captured the way everybody, including and perhaps particularly Anguillians, likes to think about Anguilla. The book itself smells all sandy and sunny and warm. The sense-tingling images help too!

Anguilla: A Shorter Sleeved Way of Life is first read by slowly turning over the `substantial' pages and gazing for ages at the colours and textures of the photographs and letting the varied feelings sink in and through.

After this first `experience' (that may take a while) the eyes turn to the text. The first reaction is a chuckle and anticipation of being and staying in good company as Patten's developed sense of humour deals a light-hearted but lasting slap right from the acknowledgements page.

The humour soon becomes attached to an evident sensitivity to variations in the human condition and a willingness to adjust accordingly and in this particular case to adopt practices and expectations in order to attain the optimal comfort level of life on Anguilla. Humour and sensitivity soon join hands with objectivity and sincerity as statements about the island seem delivered with genuine appreciation in all senses of the word.

First-time visitors may find this book invaluable as it demystifies the bizarre. It is helpful in the sense that many of the mind-twisting phenomena are explained without their having to figure it out for themselves. For locals and residents who have `adjusted', it is mind-opening to note the many appreciable differences in mores. It makes us aware of the culture shock some visitors might experience. We may not have noticed, for example that:
While it is impolite not to say "good morning" when you speak to someone, it is not rude to lay-on your car horn as you pass someone you know or don't know or met once [... although], there is some collateral startling of Americans, turning over of drinks, that sort of thing... (p.32)

Although the locals may wear the shorter sleeves, the book is definitely written for those who are seeking a little taste of this way of life. Patten describes his own experience in a very detailed way and as such provides a guide and a companion to the uninitiated. No one, I am sure, would resist being "Columbus of [their] afternoon" (p.39).

Anguilla: A Shorter Sleeved Way of Life is perfect except that on page 56 a sheep is labeled a goat. Another downer is the sense of finality at the end of the book. One starts to get the impression that this was an individual journey rather than an invitation to emulate the adventure. This is a change from the tone of the first part of the book which declares "if you don't already know Anguilla, go there!" This is easy to correct. Simply turn back to the beginning after you reach the end.

Anguilla: A Shorter Sleeved Way of Life is all about sensations - sensory details and emotions, tangible and intangible, conscious and subliminal - all are called into play. This book is the product of the perfect collaboration of a good eye and a gifted pen. You should get yourself one. It's beautiful!

I bought this book after buying Olwen Woodier's other cookbook, Peaches and Other Juicy Fruits. Like the Peaches book, this features recipes all having to do with fruit, in this case, apples.

There are ten chapters, seven of which feature recipes.

Apple History - Some interesting facts about apples, not really needed, but I always enjoy reading through this kind of thing.

Cooking with Apples - What to buy and how to store.

Apple Breakfasts and Breads - 22 recipes for egg dishes, muffins, and other breads. Recipes include; Apple and Puff Omelette, Apple Cheddar Crepes, and Apple-Banana Bread.

Apple Drinks and Snacks - 12 recipes for different drinks, some with alcohol, and assorted snacks and appetizers. Recipes include; Apple Eggnog, Apple Cheese Spread, and Hot Fruit.

Apple Salads and Sides - 21 recipes for vegetable and fruit sides and salads. Recipes include; Stuffed Apples, Apple and Sweet Potato Puree, and Cornbread Apple Stuffing.

Apples Make the Meal - 20 recipes for soups, beef, pork, chicken, and fish entrees. Recipes include; Zucchini and Apple Soup, Grilled Tuna with Apple Chutney, and Cider-Braised Chicken.

Apple Pies and Cakes - 27 recipes, some of which are for doughs and crusts. Recipes are for the expected apple pies as well as for some more innovative dishes. Recipes include; Apple Cream Cheese Tart, Pumpkin - Apple Pie, and Applesauce Gingerbread.

Apple Desserts - 30 recipes for all desserts that are not pies or cakes. Recipes include; Apple Molasses Cookies, Maple Apple Crisp, and Apple - Cinnamon Souffle.

Preserving the Apple Harvest - Canning and freezing apples tips, as wells as 6 recipes for jams, jellies, and chutneys.

Meet the Apples - Lists and describes all of the different varieties of apples, as well as a helpful chart listing the seasons, and how the certain varieties are at freezing, eating, and used in different dishes. I believe this chapter would of done better at the begining of the book.

Overall, this is a very good, fun cookbook. I'd definatly buy it if you're interested in cooking with fruit, love apples, or just want another cookbook. The only drawback of this book is the lack of having any color photos.
