101 Heads Are Better Than OneReview Date: 2006-10-11
Shirley Cheng's chapter entitled 'Dance With Your Heart: How To Befriend Your Heart And The World Around You' is my favorite. She provides clear guidelines on how to not only dance with your heart but on how to become a dancing heart. It is a beautiful and instructive chapter written by this young woman who is a blind and physically disabled poet and author. I learned more about her by visiting the website [...]
The book is filled with many other stories to help you discover countless ways of feeling better and improving your life. Enthusiastically recommended.

Self-Improvement: The Top 101 Experts Who Help Us Improve Our Lives
by David Riklan
I have deliberately bought these two books to be used as an intellectual resource on optimum performance technologies. Combined them with my earlier acquisition of Tom Butler-Brown's trilogy of books (which I have already reviewed), namely:
- 50 Self Help Classics;
- 50 Success Classics;
- 50 Spiritual Classics;
& my impending requisition of the author's latest '50 Psychology Classics', I now have, in my hands, more than 2,000 pages of well-researched & systematically organised information nuggets. What a formidable intellectual resource!
I have browsed the foregoing two books very quickly & I generally concur with most of the positive reviews by other reviewers, especially Donald Mitchell.
For readers who are still scouting for peak performance technologies, please go no further. Just follow my personal example.

I may be older than the targeted audience, but...Review Date: 2008-04-21
Even though I am over thirteen, and the book is meant for 8-13 year olds, I can still safely say that this book is my favorite book of all time, and has been for over two years. I adore the characters, the writing style, the characters, the plot, the characters, the humor, the characters, and...everything else! Oh, and I love the characters too.
The reason that I love the characters so much is that they are portrayed realistically and I feel like they are actually real people. Out of all the characters, I adore Peter "Pierre" Noel the most, because he's funny, feisty, and, to put it lightly, a walking stereotype (that's not a bad thing in his case, he does it on PURPOSE!).
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great laugh and a great plot. I'm certainly looking forward to Mrs. Wardlaw's next book in the 101 Ways series.

Will he skip eighth grade, and does he stop bugging his teachers? Read this book and find out

101 Ways to Make Studying Easier and Faster for High School Students: What Every Student Needs To Know Explained SimplyReview Date: 2008-10-17
should be at the top of any Back To School shopping list. Not only does Engel provide tips for high school students but this book could also be used for late elementary, middle and in everyday life.
This book is broken down into easy read chapters chock full of useful information to get your student and yourself on the road to successful goal planning and boosting time management skills.
If you are organizationally challenged or just need a few pointers on how to get ready for a killer mid-term exam, Engel's book is a must have on your bookshelf.
The book provides excellent examples of tried and true methods for studying and includes suggestions on how others approach try to balance school, work and a social life.
Successful Study Habit can Cause Success in LifeReview Date: 2008-09-03
Janet Engel goes into exacting detail using lists, study aids, journals, and calendars to help organize the study process. In many ways it can feel like overkill. However, this is how really successful people do things.
We all want our children to be successful, so I would recommend this book to all parents. This book would really help the student that is almost organized but needs help to get to the next level.
The book I needed in high schoolReview Date: 2008-09-03
While most general study tips guides have a number of general rules that apply to studying subject matters in general, Engle goes much further than those traditional approaches. She offers study tips unique to every major subject. This can be crucially important to students who find themselves struggling in specific subject matters.
In the foreign language chapter for example, Engle suggests students struggling to learn grammatical concepts such as conjugations not rely on conjugation lists and other such tools. Rather, she suggests it may be more effective to write a sentence using each verb form. This will allow the student to think of the verb in its natural setting.
One of the tips in the math section encourages students to show their own work after every problem. Engle notes this is critical both for the student and the teacher. If a student is having trouble understanding a concept, an instructor is better able to help the student if each step used to arrive at the final answer is chronicled. Studying does not help if errors are not able to be rectified.
In addition to the specific tips in each subject matter, Engle gives reasons why students need to study certain subjects and what the long-term benefits and uses are. In doing this, Engle shows a good understanding of one of the biggest study problems high school students - motivation. If students don't see a practical application for their efforts, they will be less likely to give 100 percent. Engle seeks to answer the argument, "I'm never going to use this stuff!" before it is ever offered.
In addition to the tips that cover most major subjects, there are other attractive qualities to Engle's book as well. She never talks down to students, but always try to encourage, even when correcting bad habits. "Do not let a temporary situation become a permanent excuse for not reaching your goals," she exhorts. No detail is overlooked in the production quality of the book as well. The college-type font at the beginning of each chapter and with each subhead, no doubt, will serve to remind many high school students what the ultimate goal is.
While the title of the book suggests there are 101 tips, Engle actually provides many more than that. Many are listed as "sub-tips" to the main points. In some ways, the title of Engle's work actually sells the book short. Students, or parents, who purchase this book are getting way more than their money's worth. They may be getting an entire future.
An Excellant Teaching Guide On Study Habits!Review Date: 2008-08-27
Author Janet Engle has done an amazing job of compiling the most complete book of its kind on this subject. In this easy to read format you will learn techniques such as how to study easier and faster, how to make time for studying, how to find your learning style, how to create your own study space, how to read fast and well, how to control and get done long term assignments, and how to conquer your fears. And there are specific chapters on tips for math, language and arts, history and science. Even more is chapters and tips about last minute cramming and what to do for those four letter words exams and tests.
This is one book that will not only benefit high school and college students but parents of younger students teaching them good study habits at an early age will make their high school years, college and even in their future careers much easier. This book is beneficial for adults as well. If you need to learn proper studying habits this book will motivate you to help your life. Example being learn to take proper notes in your next company meeting! So whether you are a high school student, college student, parent of a younger student or an adult this is one book not to be missed.
