The Cross: God's Way of SalvationReview Date: 2008-03-10
A profound and enlightening focus on Galatians 6:14Review Date: 1998-09-11

Absolutely awesome !Review Date: 2003-05-15
Readers of this awesome work cannot fail to be moved by the manner in which this subject is approached. The writer being recognised by many as perhaps one of the greatest preachers of the 20th Century.
The basis
of this book is the words written through the Apostle Paul in the New Testament book of Galatians in chapter 6;verse 14;-
"God
forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ..."
The message of Salvation being expounded through the full gospel message of 'Christ crucified'. A message that will hold you throughout this book.
As I read I can but count it loss that I was never able to hear the learned author preach, especially in these days where the central truth of the Gospel is so often ignored amidst the perilous times now facing the World as outlined in Scripture pertaining to the last days.
One particularly moving aspect of this book is that during the course of these sermons in 1963, US President Kennedy was assassinated.
Clearly shocked and saddened by the tragic death of President Kennedy, the writer mentions his death during his preaching. We are left in no doubt as to the uncertainty of this physical life, it's transiency and our inability to save ourselves.
The meticulous study together with the fervent depth of the message provides a message that is extremely powerful. We are left in no doubt as to the importance of Salvation and it's absolute necessity for us all.
Many references are made, not least the glaring parallel between Christ's sacrifice on the Cross and the Old Testament Passover where the Jewish people were spared whilst the first born of the Egyptians were killed.
The blood of a pure, unblemished lamb having been painted on the posts and lintels of the Israelites' doors causing death to pass over them. The shedding of Jesus Christ's blood on the cross at Calvary being the New Covenant, whereby Jesus Himself is the pure, unblemished Lamb of God which now takes away the sin of the entire World, for those who believe in Him.
If you read just one book apart from the Bible about Jesus and Salvation, let it be this one. Highly, highly recommended.
Thanks for listening.

Essential Small Business Marketing ToolReview Date: 2007-11-28
Geskey is certainly a media maven: the book is well thought-out and each chapter might well stand alone as a reference tool on each topic. The Problems & Exercises at the end of each chapter are clearly designed to reinforce the main lessons of the chapter and learners who take the time to work on them definitely stand to gain a thorough grounding in media and marketing.
Of particular note are the discussions in later chapters: Chapter 9 for the advantages & disadvantages of various media-buying processes ... Chapter 10's Internet strategies and the need for a professional-looking Web page ... fun Creative Media ideas (Chapter 11): blogs, newsletters, podcasts and greeting cards ... how'barter' and 'media remnants' work in Chapter 12 ... and finally, Chapter 14 ("Hello Goliath!") -- an effective wrap-up and reminder for ESOV and the importance of Share of Voice and Quality of Voice.
Readers should not overlook the Appendix chock full of even more marketing tools: Worksheets for figuring sales objectives, tools for conducting a SWOT Analysis, and ideas for determining customer target markets, creating marketing objectives, determining primary market areas and thinking about communication strategies and budget considerations.
Overall, "David vs. Goliath: Guerilla Media Buying for Small Business" might well stand alone as a classroom text for small business owners seeking to implement marketing plans. In future, an updated edition of the book might include more discussion about 'buzz' or word-of-mouth marketing strategies, a bibliography containing citation information about the media and research studies contained in the book and a Glossary of Terms to help the reader refer to essential media definitions and marketing tools.
At the End of the Book, You Have an Action PlanReview Date: 2007-10-17
This was a great and innovative book. Best of all, by filling out the worksheets after each chapter and at the end of the book, it results in a well thought out action plan to raise Share of Voice in your marketing area. Highly recommended and worth the time!
An Essential Book For Small BusinessReview Date: 2007-09-06
Geskey explains that a key to growing a successful business is to use an innovative, well researched technique known as increasing your share of voice and your quality of voice. Through a step by step method, readers will learn how to make each advertising dollar work harder for them. By dramatically increasing your effective share of voice without increasing your budget in your market area, you can increase top of mind awareness of your product. This will then lead to increased sales and market share.
Not only does the author provide an in depth analysis and understanding of marketing and media, helpful methods and tools are provided to make the most of your advertising dollar. As Ronald Geskey states, "The key is to eliminate advertising spending waste."
Budgets are often wasted when the wrong type of communication is used for the job (e.g., direct mail vs. publicity) or the wrong media are used to reach the wrong target in the wrong place at the wrong time-- negotiated at the wrong price without value added and media investment safeguards.
When was the last time you read a book or an article about how to actually negotiate a media buy to get the most bang for your buck? Maybe never? Geskey's book provides clear steps on how to negotiate traditional and non traditional media buys to get substantially more media exposure for the budget.
Because successful communications with the consumer are critical to the success of a small business, the author discusses and provides an analysis of the many benefits and pitfalls of different marketing communications forms and various advertising media. Advertising media discussed include television, print, radio, internet, direct mail as well over 60 non traditional media approaches.
With well illustrated diagrams and exercises at the end of each chapter, the author provides the necessary tools and skills for you to make your small business a long term success. I plan to implement the strategies for my own business endeavors. I highly recommend the book to current business owners as well as to those planning to start a small business.

Wish I Had This Book Years Ago - A Must ReadReview Date: 2007-09-10
Had David vs. Goliath been available years ago it would have likely transformed my marketing of the business and its success. It also would have helped remove my ever present fear of the competition.
The book provides the tools to take the small business owner through the process of analyzing the business and business practices to the development of an innovative marketing strategy and plan to build sales and profit.
I had never even heard of share of voice, and certainly never thought of any linkage to sales or share of market. And even though I bought media, I now know how uninformed and naive I was, wasting a lot of money (resulting in lost sales and profit) without even knowing it.
The author also shows how we can make the internet work for us. He cuts through the confusion of selecting and buying the media at the right price place, and time.
Each chapter is filled with "secrets" which most owners of small businesses are unaware, at least I was.David vs. Goliath: Guerilla Media Buying for Small Business, A New Way to Win Every small business owner needs this insightful book!

wonderfully helpful bookReview Date: 2006-10-27
i think mary hunt is a wonderful author, and she speaks and writes from personal experience. she dug herself out of more than $100,000 in debt.
she's very encouraging to those who are looking to improve their financial status as far as getting out of debt and staying that way. and she can even help improve the marriage relationship with her other book, debt-proof your marriage. it's a great read, too.
Great guide to training your kidsReview Date: 2006-10-19
Also, beyond this plan, the book has great side commentary on teaching your kids about debt, budgeting, and lots of other aspects of finances.
Excellent advice on teaching your kids about moneyReview Date: 1999-01-28
The first half of the book is primarily anecdotes about encounters with debt, and results of the author's attempts to teach her children about handling money, also pulling in other research about kids and attitudes toward responsibility. I was a little worried about where the meat might be until I got to the second section (ch. 11), which details various aspects of money and money handling (credit cards, types of debt, compound interest, etc.) and ends each section with "The minimum your kids need to know about _____." I found this section a great resource for making notes about what I needed to talk to my own kids about. The final three chapters in the book talk about specific age-related issues and how much kids can be expected to understand at each age level. I found this section great for customizing a plan specific to each child.
Mary Hunt's Debt-Proof Your Kids --- Do this for your Kids!Review Date: 1999-12-07
First of all if you have children READ MARY'S BOOK .. Debt-Proof Your Kids ... this has been the single best thing I've read on preparing your children for financial freedom in their adult life. I was skeptical at first, but am a FIRM BELIEVER! now. It's amazing the attitude towards money my children have now.
My children 15, 12, 10 are to the age where they like to buy Christmas gifts for their friends. This year (when first started on a salary 3 months ago) I told them it would be their responsibility to buy gifts for their friends. They're finished now and there was not even a mention of - Hey Mom how about some extra money. Believe me, this was the case before they were on a salary.
It relieved me of the - Mom can I have this ... they save their money and buy it if they still feel that way. I didn't realize how much more fun shopping can be when you don't have little ones asking for everything!
Everyone is still doing great on their salaries-- my oldest is much more frugal than I would have thought, my middle daugher is still buying more candy than necessary (or LIP GLOSS) but she's still has money saved and is doing well buying her own clothes when she needs them, and my youngest is doing well (even remembering to fill out his own lunch envelopes.)
I thought paying them their money the first of every month instead of throughout the month would be hard to budget for, but it's going well. I know exactly the $ amount and they stick to it.

DIVORCED DADS, A BETTER WAY TO GOReview Date: 2002-11-21
A must-have for any parent looking for ways to stay in touchReview Date: 2003-11-20
Children need their non-custodial parents as much as they do their main caregivers. There are many ways for separated and divorced parents to continue their relationship with their children. In the book, "Divorced Dads: 101 Ways to Stay Connected With Your Kids," those parents not living at home will learn many different ways to continue bonding with their children. Even though this book was written primarily for divorced dads, I believe all families can benefit from its contents! For example, parents who are away on business or other trips will find different ways to stay in touch while across the miles. This book contains many example family situations.
MyParenTime.com highly recommends this book -- from simple ideas such as using the telephone to stay connected, to more creative tips such as playing interactive Internet games, this book will provide great ways to stay in touch with your children. What you'll learn in this book, you'll treasure forever in your relationship with your children.

Extremely Useful and easy to readReview Date: 2002-12-02
Divorced Dads: 101 Ways to Stay Connected with Your Kids is not a book on general parenting. What it does and does well is to impart a positive and hopeful attitude about being a parent in spite of divorce that helps that parent refocus energy and emotion on the children rather than on the difficulties with the former spouse. Dads who I have recommended read this book have come back to say it was very useful and appreciated.

Gem of a bookReview Date: 2001-07-17
Central to Judaism are Torah and Talmud--which offer democratic learning systems open to all willing to avail themselves. Heschel uses the great Yiddish writer Mendele Moher Sefarim's description of a typical Eastern European Jewish town--"where Torah was studied from time immemorial; where practically all the inhabitants are scholars, where the Synagogue or the House of Study is full of people of all classes busily engaged in studies, townfolk as well as young men from afar...where at dusk, between twilight and evening prayers, artisans and other simple folk gather around the tables to listen to a discourse on the great books of Torah, to interpretations of Scripture, to readings from theological, homiletical or ethical writings...., where on the Sabbath and the holidays, near the Holy Ark, at the reading stand, sermons are spoken that kindle the hearts of the Jewish people for the Divine Presence, sermons seasoned with parables and aphorisms of the sages, in a voice and a tone that heartens one's soul, that melts all limbs, that penetrates the whole being." Study included all: Indeed, a book preserved at New York's Yivo Institute bears the stamp of the Berditshev Society of Wood Choppers for the Study of Mishnah, the earliest part of Talmud.
A Christian scholar who visited Warsaw during World War I saw many parked coaches with no drivers in sight. In his country, he wrote, "I would have known where to look for them. A young Jewish boy showed me the way: in a courtyard, on the second floor, was the shtible of Jewish drivers. It consisted of two rooms: one filled with Talmud volumes, the other a room for prayer. All the drivers were involved in fervent study and religious discussion.... It was then that I... became convinced that all the professions, the bakers, the shoemakers, etc., have their own shtible in the Jewish district; and every free moment which can be taken off from work is given to the study of Torah. And when they get together in intimate groups, one urges the other, 'Sog mir a shtickle Torah--Tell me a little Torah."
European Jews studied in their own language--Yiddish--born of what Heschel calls "a will to make intelligible, to explain and simplify the tremendous complexities of the sacred literature. Thus there arose, as though spontaneously, a mother tongue, a direct expression of feeling, a mode of speech without ceremony or artifice, a language that speaks itself without taking devious paths, a tongue that has maternal intimacy and warmth. In this language, you say 'beauty' and mean 'spirituality;' you say 'kindness' and mean 'holiness.' Few languages can be spoken so simply and directly; there are but few languages which lend themselves with such difficulty to falseness. No wonder Rabbi Nahman of Bratslav would sometimes choose Yiddish to pour out his heart to God."
Heschel's words could easily define the Jewish faith itself. The world he describes was lost in the Holocaust, but the faith was not. This book rekindles it. Alyssa A. Lappen
A Philosophical lesson on JudaismReview Date: 2000-01-03
DELIGHTED to see this back in print!Review Date: 1999-07-18
Not just about Hasidism, this thin but profound volume, written in such beautifully poetic prose, covers the different types of Eastern European Jews in a way that informs and inspires at the same time. Rabbi Heschel explain so clearly how Jewish spirituality is expressd, not in visible cathedrals, art, or monuments, but in timeless words and values as they are expressed in community through both worship and daily life.
Originally written in 1949, it appears that the author, himself a Holocaust survivor, intended this book to be a memorial to a lost world. Yet 50 years later, the book is as fresh and inspiring as the day it was written. The physical Jewish world he describes may no longer be there in Eastern Europe, but the inner world of religious Jews continues to grow and flourish so that I, as a Hasid in the 90's, can read this book and say, "Yes, this describes my inner life, too!" .
Perhaps, as Heschel himself suggests, this Eastern European "golden age" of Jewish spirituality (his words) can now be fully appreciated by the world. An excellent, EXCELLENT, book! Double 5-stars!
The niggun of the Jewish soul Review Date: 2005-11-06
This spiritual music Heschel argues was present in the everyday life of ordinary Jews. In one of the powerful sections of the work he contrasts the elitist static world of the Jews of fourteenth and fifteenth century Spain with that of the Ashkenazim. He talks about the isolation of Ashkenazi Jewry before modern times, and its dynamism in comparison to a more slowly awakening Sephradish Jewry.
The great feeling in this work is somehow sadly underlined when one considers that it was first published in 1945 the year that it became known that most of those who lived in this sacred way were exterminated by the Nazis.

On top of that, I realized the meaning of the prayer, and what's wrong with my prayer.
I strongly recommend this book to you.
