The Western concept of massage concerns itself with muscle manipulation, but Chi Self-Massage focuses on both internal and sense organs and employs Taoist techniques which until recently have been closely guarded secrets. Master Mantak Chia pieces this system into a logical routine any can duplicate, using methods used by these masters to explore the theory and purposes behind Chi Self-Massage. Spirituality blends with practical application in an easily-followed guide.

Easy to use and understand to empower yourself for better health

Master Chia and his wife have a collection of books based on Chinese healing, specifically dealing with massage, Chi energy or both. This book is an easy-to-use guide even for someone without any background knowledge on the subject and provides a good introduction that is brief and easy enough to understand so the healing can start nearly immediately.

Broken into chapters according to anatomy, there are simple drawings showing location and technique accompanied by step-by-step instructions that guide your hands and explanations that detail the benefit. Be aware these are not necessarily 'cures' or immediate fix-its for everything that ails you, but rather a way of healing and prevention to promote overall health. By massaging the body's organs, which work flawlessly for decades without much attention (and we often take for granted), we can expel toxins, help them work more efficiently and bolster our immune system without drugs, side effects or expensive doctor visits.

Also, by empowering ourselves, we take more control of our health and our lives.

This is definitely one of his easiest books to use, since it is mostly just simple directions of where to rub for what purpose, and what to visualize as you do it. One night I'd eaten a 2-day old bean soup and was up for hours with nightmarish gas. Finally I remembered I had this book and sat up, rubbing my eyelids and ears and large intestine just the way he recommended. The gas went away and I was totally rejuvenated. Since then I never question anything he suggests! Also, these massages really help me deal with the effects of air travel.

Great resource!

This is an excellent book that we have used to teach Christian Care Giving in three churches. It also serves as a text book for the Stephens Ministry basic course. The book is good on its own, but works best when its contents are discussed in a class seting.

The world needs people who care. This book is a practical manual for anyone who has ever felt uncomfortable comforting a friend or acquaintance.

Kenneth Haugk has written this book to address the real-life issues people confront when caring for others. Many find it easier to discuss sex than to discuss issues of their faith and religion. Even if we are comfortable sharing these matters, those with whom we deal may not be.

This practical, well-written book takes the reader beyond theories about the integration of psychology and theology. It strengthens and re-enforces your call to care for those about who you care.

Having met with Ron Ousky, I am only sorry to say this book wasn't out when we were looking for help to keep our family intact even though we were divorcing.

Our own story is one that many people say they can relate to, having each of the family members write their own version of how the divorce came to pass and how we stayed family through it, not only surviving, but thriving.

We're happy to support the Collaborative Law Institute and share its own message, similar to our own... A Family Doesn't Have To End Just Because A Marriage Does!

This book gives a straight easy to follow explanation of what to expect in the collaborative process. The book guides you through the process step by step and includes helpful questionnaires to see if this is a good fit for your divorce. Lots of useful and insightful material in the Appendix. I would highly recommend to anyone, including lawyers, who wants to get a feel for how the collaborative model might be better than a traditional divorce. I practice in the area, and recommend this book to my clients.

I just finished this book, which was easy to read and well written. I have practiced
divorce law for 34 years, mediated civil and family law disputes for 10 years, completed collaborative
training, and have begun the collaborative practice of law. I am really
enjoying it and plan to change the focus of my practice to collaborative law.
As a divorced father of two adult children, I have personally experienced the dark side of
divorce via the traditional method and hope to offer clients another option to the traditionally adversarial way of divorcing. This book is a great guide for the practitioner and for those who are considering a divorce. It clearly sets forth the advantages of resolving conflict without the use of the adversarial court system method of "winner take all". I am revamping my website and practice materials and expect to incorporate many of the concepts set forth in this book to assist clients in deciding how they want to pursue their divorce.

I recommend this book for clients and practitioners (attorneys, mental health, financial and other professionals)

As a family law attorney in Minnesota who believes that helping my clients is more important than maximizing my billable time, I am starting to use the Collaborative Practice method in some of my family law cases. After reading this book, The Collaborative Way to Divorce, I decided that the Collaborative Practice method would be better (less expensive with better outcomes) than traditional litigation for many of my family law clients. In family law cases (most often divorce), I frequently recommend proceeding Collaboratively rather than through traditional litigation, especially where children are involved. The Collaborative Way to Divorce leads both the client and the practitioner (attorneys, mental health, financial and other professionals) through both the benefits and the process of proceeding collaboratively. This book is readable by nonlawyers and lawyers alike and I highly recommend it. I regularly purchase a handful of copies of this book to give out to clients, clergy, and others who may be interested in learning about Collaborative Practice.

This book is one which I would recommend to any individual considering a divorce. One of the authors of the book, Stu Webb, is the "founder" of the collaborative divorce movement. The book should be read before selecting and going forward with traditional adversarial representation. There are several pros of the book are that it is written with one voice - despite being written by two lawyers. It is clearly written. The alternative book is the book with Pauline Tessler as co-author. This books is somewhat longer and more inter-disciplinary in its approach. The co-author is a psychologist. If you are looking for the book that is easiest to read yet, by this one.

You've come to my rescue. This was the first quilt book I purchased 2 1/2 years ago when I decided to take the plunge into quilting. I absolutely adore this book!

It was very interesting and applicable. I immediately began to make each project (completed 4 or 5 of 7) before moving on to some other projects.

Somehow, over the intervening months, I've managed to lose (probably merely misplace--so I'll be selling or giving away my extra copy when I find it) this book. I've searched several quilt stores, not remembering where I initially bought it. Decided to go on line, and finally found it here. I can't understand why it's not the first book listed when you do a search on "quilts" and "color." I believe it is the definitive book on the subject. Easy to read, easy and fun projects to do; you actually "play" as your learn. Would love to see other books by Ms. Perry.

This is the only book that teaches color lesson in quilting. Easy to follow concept and lots of fun too! The quilts here are pretty small and easy to finish. Very stater level. And the color lessons are wonderful. When I was reading this book, I keep saying 'so that it is.' It is just like someone helps you to say what you already know but can't find a way to express. The best thing is these lessons are for everyone with different color preference and taste. I loved it!

I love this book! It's an important one for beginner quilters, and also for quilters who need confidence in putting colors and textures together in a quilt. Do you have a sizeable stash, buy the fabric medleys you see in magazines but freeze up when it's time to use them? Can't walk out of a fabric store without a sack of fabric in your hand, yet it turns into one more project on your to-do list because, mmmm, maybe those fabrics you bought don't go well together after all?

I have another book that deals with color theory, fabric texture, pattern and theme. I'm supposed to cut little pieces from my precious stash and paste them in the appropriate boxes in the book. I just couldn't do it! I like Color From the Heart because the author sets up seven lessons during which you actually make a little quilt in each lesson. Lesson One focuses on Spontaneity. You'll be asked to make a little postage stamp quilt. This was a fun exercise, and yielded some interesting surprises for me. Lesson Two turns to Color Enrichment, and so on. In each lesson there are colorful photos of quilts made that reflect the quilter's individual choices.

The author spends just a few pages giving you background on color theory. That's fine with me. You can get more on that elsewhere. Her purpose in the book, as I see it, is on teaching you how to expand your knowledge of fabric color, design, texture etc. and how the fabrics interact and influence one another. All this so you learn to trust your color instincts.

I absolutely love this book. Originally a painter, Gai Perry really delivers in Colour From The Heart with her 7 step formula for understanding and working with colour and quilts. There are dozens of colour photos throughout the book - I can't stand quilt books that don't include lots of photos - so you can really get a feel for what Perry is communicating. Her approach to quilting is also quite refreshing; she prefers a few basic tools and supplies, a contrast to the perhaps overly technological quilts being made today in the 21st century. I feel completely inspired and confident about using her ideas and my favourite colours effectively in my next quilt!

Common tactics presented in an uncommonly insightful way

This book is a fitting match for its title. While the subject matter of how to motivate people in your organization is all too familiar, Sunny has presented the common in an uncommonly good way.

One telling sign I use to determine the impact of a book on business and employee related strategy is how many times I find myself stopping and simply thinking about all the ways I can apply the concepts. While the basics here are not brand new, my copy now has more dog-ears than the local pound. I think I applied the concepts in over half a dozen ways within hours of finishing the book.

The book covers several top motivators for employees. The chapter on "leaving your mark" was full of excellent suggestions on how to build employee "contribution", a key element in not only boosting internal performance, but building solid word of mouth business growth through referrals and retention. Sunny hits the mark herself when she talks about how basically everything is marketing, in some form. The chapter on "leading with your heart" was also quite persuasive. It is unfortunately often that senior leaders fail to understand the emotional wake they leave behind. That miss can cause serious barriers to the very performance they are trying to inspire.

I only gave four stars because I thought it was a bit too short, and light on examples. This is a quick read, and on the surface looks tame enough. However, when examining the content a bit deeper there are numerous valuable learning's here, and more importantly, they are packaged in a way that resonates and inspires one to action.

As the caregiver for my husband who suffered an AVM (arteriovenus malformation) 23 years ago, I wish I'd had this book then. Looking back, I did a good job of monitoring his doctors, nurses and aftercare. What I did NOT do was take care of myself. Valerie has written a terrific account of her medical trauma, which brings the reader right in the room/bed with her. You feel her helplessness, her frustration, her fury. We all encounter those in the medical community who make assumptions rather than medical assessments, either due to patient overload or malaise. Regardless, I recommend this book to virtually everyone. Everyone either has had or will have a medical emergency in their life and this is is a primer on how to take care of yourself when that happens. You may not have a family member near to look out for you and will have to fight for yourself. Buy this book. Valerie makes it easy to read and puts all the technical information in the bibliography for your reference. She is a hero!

My father had a stroke three months ago. I was desperate to find information regarding strokes - not only for my father but also for my mother - his primary caregiver. My father is unable to read, speak or walk but is able to understand everything that's going on around him. I began reading Valerie's book to him and the way he paid attention was astounding! It was as if he wanted to say, "That's how I feel!" It was important for him to know that someone else has been in his exact situation before and that we knew what he was going through. He also needed to know that, through sheer determination and will power, he too will be able to walk and talk again. At the end of each chapter my mother and I would read the Resources section together. In a sea of confusion and frustration it was great to find such a wonderful and inspirational book to help us get through this most traumatic time in our lives. I would recommend Valerie's book for, not only the stroke patient, but also friends and family.

Valerie is not only a great story-teller, but humorous in her approach to life and its pitfalls. She knows from the inside how a person must fight this disease, and is able to share it intelligently and step-by-step in an easy-to-read format.
This book should be in every home!!!

A stroke can radically change one's life - to the point that he or she isn't the same person anymore. "Conquering Stroke: How I Fought My Way Back and How You Can Too" encourages sufferers of strokes to not let it and do whatever it takes to overcome their affliction and live how they want to once more. While offering plenty of advice for both treatment and the recovery process, it acknowledges that the best cure is prevention and has a focus on that subject as well. "Conquering Stroke: How I Fought My Way Back and How You Can Too" is a top pick for senior health collections and for anyone who fears or wants to overcome stroke.

What an incredible amount of work and heart have gone into this long awaited account of her triumphs over a catastrophic event in her very young years and what maturity and obvious study and hard work have gone into her writing of this book. The information supplied at the end of each chapter is invaluable! I've read a lot since having my stroke in July of 2000, but never has so much been provided in one account. I highly recommend this for any and all people who have in any way been touched by a stroke and for the caregivers who are the heart of encouraging the survivors as they continue along their journey with new and different goals, yet hope for a bright tomorrow!

One of my favorite poems, a comforting and refreshing perspective on life's big picture. It purports to have been discovered in a church in the seventeenth century, but in fact it was written by a man named Max Ehrmann in the first third of this century. I have kept a copy around since elementary school (ever since I learned that Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, kept one in his office), and now keep one in my office at home and one at work.

Desiderata - an extremely moving book, is one of it's kind, in the truest sense of the word. It has words in the form of a poem and pictures depicted alongside of the words. Each picture is hardly a scrawl and the accompanying words are extremely simple, and yet together, they tell you so much of life and how to live it.

The utter simplicity of the pictures and the words is truly unparalleled and leaves a lasting impression on you.

THE DHAMMAPADA is a core text of the buddha-dharma. It summarizes in verse form the basic teachings of the Buddha, and is used by all traditions (Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana). This is a superb new translation by Glenn Wallis, a Sanskrit scholar. There are some passages (including the opening verse!) which I find to be more felicitously phrased in other translations, but Wallis makes a strong case for his choices in the commentary, and in most cases creates beautiful, flowing verses in modern English.

An example of the value of the commentary is Wallis's discussion of his translation of the term "nirvana." It has traditionally been translated as "extinguishing," as in blowing out a candle, meaning to extinguish desire (the root of suffering). But Wallis follows an alternative translation -- "unbinding." He argues that according to the physics of 2500 B.P. India, a flame was considered to be bound to its source, and liberated when it was unbound from it.

There are many translations and editions of THE DHAMMAPADA available today, but this new one is highly recommended. The Modern Library hardcover edition is well-designed for many years of use.

See my BHUDDA-DHARMA list for more.

This is beautiful. What can I say? There are few sources of spiritual teachings as eloguent and full of truth as that taught by the Buddha.

The sayings are layed out in verse form. You could read one 4 line verse and meditate on it's meaning all day. They are profound thoughts, guaranteed to raise your spirit to a level much higher than the mundane.

Regardless of what your opinion might be on who or what the Buddha was, the lessons he's given us are priceless. If the world really did behave the way we are taught to we would have heaven on Earth.

Perhaps that was the lesson another fine religious leader was trying to give us...It is no coincidence that his teachings were also called "The Way."

peace to you all..

I have read at least a dozen versions of the Dhammapada over the last twenty years. So, when I first saw this one by Glenn Wallis, I was skeptical that it would make much of an impression on me. I was wrong. When I put my versions side by side, Wallis's translation made many of the others look simplistic, shallow, careless, or downright wrong. Since I don't know Pali or Sanskrit, I can't be certain, but Wallis inspires confidence in his Dhammapada by providing explanations and reasons for his choices. His Guide to Reading the Text brings out meanings and nuances that the other translations don't. Looking back, I realize that I never really understood the Dhammapada before. With Wallis's book, I feel like I have a basis now for doing so.

If the Lord Buddha himself had ever wished for a modern English translation of his words it would surely be this one. The verses are lucid, deeply moving (at least for a Buddhist as myself), and very nearly luminous. Most importantly, the Buddha's words are in this version easily accessible and profoundly relevant for troubled modern minds. The translators comments and reading guide are also very nearly peerless. First class and a must read.

Just as there are many translations of the Christian Bible with virtues to be gained from studying each one, there are also many translations of this great Buddhist classic, "The Dhammapada" which Glenn Wallis subtitles "Verses on The Way" (The Path).

How shall we live our lives and walk the way in goodness? These 423 verses with Wallis' lucid commentary following are a good guide.

"A seeker will master this earth,
this world of death and radiant beings.
A seeker will gather a well-taught verse on the way,
as a skilled gardener gathers a flower."
--from chapter 4, Flowers

This book teaches us to: Commit not a single unwholesome action and cultivate a wealth of virtue. "So why not read the Dhammapada repeatedly, taking to heart its claim to be a revealer of treasures?" (from "A Note on the Translation")

Wallis' version with its delicate sense of language and fine mastery of the Buddha's teachings is an excellent version to take to heart.

Jamie Shaw's "Dog to Dog Communication, the Right Way to Socialize Your Dog," presents a highly-readable, new and clear approach to dog training. She writes in a relaxed, conversational style, as if she is talking directly to the reader. There are excellent photographs and charming line drawings as well. This is a sensitive, thoughtful book for everyone who shares their home with a companion dog (or dogs).

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that Jamie Shaw wrote DOG TO DOG COMMUNICATION. I used to be embarrassed by my dog's behavior--he was uncontrollable around other dogs--but after reading the extremely helpful information I can now bring my dog anywhere and he's a real class act. Shaw's techniques really WORK! They're highly effective, yet gentle. Please, your dog and the dogs of your friends and neighbors beg you to buy this book.

I have a very artistic child and another child who isn't quite as artistic. Both love this book and others from the "Draw 50" series. The one has a blast changing little things and making the pictures his own and the other has fun realizing that she too can create some cool pictures with the easy to follow instructions. This particular book has some wonderful cats featured from your common tabby to more unique household cats and large wild kitties. It's definitely worth the money.

Artists who love cats will love this book.

I am teaching my students to draw cats using this book. I like the step-by-step drawings and the different position and types of cats.
We have gone one step further in class by making our own stationery and cards using our finished drawings. We add a complimentary quote to our drawing from the book 516 Sensational Cat Quotes, Proverbs, Quips and Jokes for Scrapbooking, Crafting and Fun ISBN 0966640578
Teachers, have your student make a copy of the original so that they can make numerous copies. Save the originals.
Great drawing book. I highly recommend it.

I wanted to draw more realistic cats
and this book showed me that I needed to start with the head shape
and not the ears. There was not a lot of writing, just good step-by-step instruction. From my first drawing with this book, my drawings have improved. I highly reccomend this book!
