It changes my lifeReview Date: 2002-01-10
This book is a true inspirationReview Date: 2002-03-25
The accounts from various professionals give it a well-rounded feel - a remarkable insight into every day life. Whether speaking of happiness, teamwork, honesty, or reverence, there is a viewpoint and a story that will literally lift you from your chair. Sporadic lists and activities, including lists of things to make you happy, give it a particular uniqueness.
Tom Jones, a space shuttle astronaut, demonstrates how to turn disappointment into happiness. He was successful in "dealing with adversity and overcoming it mentally." What a great concept, right?
Letitia Baldridge tells of her childhood struggle when moving to a new town and dealing with the sadness associated with feeling left out. Even the story of her 7th birthday party could force any adult to see the importance of friendliness.
This book is a true inspiration. It's an emotional and intellectual effort to demonstrate the ways in which the values of scouting can be applied to the life of every reader. Although the style is simple, you will be overwhelmed (in a good way) with sentiment. It is a must-read and it will be sure to get your priorities and perspectives in order.

The Scoutig WayReview Date: 2002-01-15
I have subscribed to the Scouting Way Newsletter and as a result of that I purchased a copy of the Scouting Way Book in November 2001
This book embodies the true Ethic and Values which form the basis for Scouting anywhere in the world, it supports the Promise and Law which are at the very core of our purpose
I find the examples in the Scouting Way to be fresh, thoughtful and above all else examples of very good practice expressed by work face adult Scout Masters, messages are simple to understand and show the values that young people and adults adopt as members of Scouting
If this book were available and being used by all Youth Workers both volunteers and proffessionals eg teachers the communities from which they worked in would be immeasurably improved
Acceptance of a values based programme by more young people would enhance their lives and that of their future families, this book gives them this opportunity
Scouting Worldwide will make use of this resource as it is a very valuable tool for youth development
I congratulate Sanfra and Jeff Schwartz on their publication of the Scouting Way Book and I look forward to further issues

Shamanic Reiki Review Date: 2008-06-17
Reading Shamanic Reiki gave me a profound ah-ha moment. I've always felt that Reiki didn't quite describe what I do and what I believe that my clients need. In the past, I've been frustrated by individuals who simply want me to cure their ills. I know that the energies can relieve their pain. I also know that by continuing the same life patterns, these same individuals will soon find themselves in the exact same position. I've always thought that Reiki should be used not only to relieve the clients concerns but also as a way to understand the root of the problem.
Now I see that the authors of Shamanic Reiki suggest exactly this. They seek to ask more of both the practitioner and the client. This involves a partnership of sorts, a commitment to healing and personal growth on the part of both parties. This is the kind of practitioner I want to be.

Great Method for a Successful Talent Show!Review Date: 2004-01-22
I was amazed at the quality of the performances I had using the method. Even though I had never directed a talent show before, the performances were polished and details I would never have thought of were covered in the method and used in our shows. Everyone involved enjoyed being a part of it. It has been a wonderful experience and "Talent Shows the Kent Way" made it happen!

Unconditional Love: An Unconditional Way of BeingReview Date: 2007-09-26
The concept of unconditional love is relatively new in the human psyche. This book takes us from its source to its multidimentional manifestations in the world and our own conscious evolution. Harold Becker's candor and sincere understanding of BEing unconditional love is conveyed in an easy, unpretentious manner. Reading it, you know he knows and fully shares how we can all let go and be inspired by the simplicity of love, and ultimately learn to feel and express unconditional love in our lives. A repeat guest on "Our Greatest Hour" RADIO Show!, Harold W. Becker has a rare gift of introducing us to the reality of living love.
Amazing GraceReview Date: 2007-09-11
Many people have the hidden question, "How can I love more?" "How can I get past this pain in my heart?" In this book, Harold offers a clear vision of how we can resolve these pains leading to an open heart and happiness for all.
A Classic and Timeless BookReview Date: 2007-09-08
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to experience peace, growth and positive change. To unconditionally love makes life become a joy and a blessing.
It has helped me in my life and especially in my work with others: I help with Spiritual Direction and healing.
I've ordered several copies to keep in my office at our church when people come to seek answers.
What a beautiful tool for healing! Thank you Harold, for you wisdom, your truth, your willingness to share your gifts with the rest of us through your writing and workshops.

Unconditional Love - An Unlimited Way of BeingReview Date: 2007-07-19
Unconditional Love draws the reader into an entirely new world of thought. Our world seems so chaotic and our problems so complicated. Sometimes, there doesn't seem like there is much hope at all. Yet, if you really think about it, all of our problems, complications, and issues begin and end with one thing- love. Not romantic love or sexual love but universal love, love that connects us all at our base, unconditional love.
Think about it. If we really truly loved ourselves unconditionally would we continue to torture ourselves with a constant stream of dialogue about how much we lack (money, relationships, body form, etc)? Would we trade off our precious life force to work in a job we hate? Would we cut ourselves off from love and true happiness? I think not. Pick up a copy of Unconditional Love. Learn to love yourself, change your outlook on life, and discover your passion.

Way Down Deep in the Deep Blue SeaReview Date: 2008-09-01
Delightful repetition and rhyme, vibrant illustrations - my toddler's favorite book!Review Date: 2008-07-20
Firstly, the story is adorable, and it captures the imagination of a child. It's about a little boy who is exploring the deep blue sea in search of treasure, and he meets many ocean creatures along the way. When he emerges from the water, it turns out those animals were not real ocean creatures, but instead his bath toys, including the big (but not scary) smiling shark he meets before he decides to high tail it up the surface. The story is just as fun for parents as it is for their children, we get a fun glimpse into the eyes of a child playing pretend...
Secondly, the illustrations are wonderful. They are simple, not busy, and each page features a different animal that he meets along the way. My daughter loves to point to each animal as I read its name, especially toward the end when he says goodbye individually to each of them
Thirdly, this is a perfect story for a toddler or an emergent young reader. The story is full of repetition and rhyme. which holds their attention, and for us, it's a nice break from board books. It doesn't have an overwhelming number of words on a page.
When I ask my 15 month old to select a book for me to read to her, she goes for this one, several times each day. She chooses it out of her library of 60+ books. Buy it - it's a winner!

Why Parents Love Their ChildrenReview Date: 2007-10-23
Through questioning and self-discovery, a little cat finds out why its mother loves it. She loves little cat even when little cat is being naughty, even when little cat screams, even though he paints pictures and when little cat picks up the toys. Yet none of these are the main reason why Mother loves little cat. I don't want to give away the ending but it is truly inspiring.
Fathers should not be deterred from purchasing this book simply because of the title. The message is appropriate for all family members.

Above all, the book provides an opportunity for parents to reassure their own occasionally naughty offspring of their unconditional love. Our family culture would be poorer without this book in our lives; I'm grateful that it was available to us.

not bad at allReview Date: 2005-03-14
The chapters of this book alternate between stories of adventure and motivational or self-help chapters.
The adventure stories are enjoyable, and if, like me, you haven't had enough adventures lately they might inspire you. The story of his experience as a gaucho, near the middle of the book, is a great one. In the end of the book he compares fatherhood to an adventure, entertainingly comparing his daily routine to the imagined routine of a cave-man. These chapters are the better parts of the book.
The motivational/self-help chapters are filled with the standard exhortations, although here and there the adventure theme adds an intriguing twist, or a unique suggestion. If you really take them seriously, they might be quite helpful. So, although this book is not bad, it's not great, and I'd recomemend "Less Traveled" or "7 Habits" above it.
Conclusion: If you've read those two books, and if you think adventure is something your life is missing, then this book is worth the money and time.
Further conclusion: If you haven't done anything adventurous lately, and your life feels boring, then it's time you did. Reading this book might help you get off your tush, and then it's important that you read it.
Enjoyable readReview Date: 2004-07-14
The author uses a pattern whereby he writes a chapter that tells the story of one of his adventures in what I found was an engaging, honest and delightful way. It was hard not to want to find out how things turned out I found and hard, at times, to put the book down.
After you read a fact based chapter, the author then writes a chapter that summarizes the life lessons he learned from his experiences in a point by point manner although he still weaves his life into these chapters as well. These chapters I found easy to follow and yet packed with good life advice. Some of it is probably a review of what you may have heard somewhere else but has the ring of experience behind it that makes it seem more real. For example, from one of his encounters with one of the last real life gaucho's we are given his (the gaucho's) meaning of life summarized in a few sentences- "There is nowhere to go. There is nothing to do except to be of service." Then, the author expands upon that statement in the following chapter.
The author's proclivity for action makes this a good read in particular for those seeking to become better people but lack the personal motivation to pursue a more sedentary sitting meditation practice. The author's perspective is interwoven with a spiritual foundation but emphasizes an active pursuit of one's growth to reach a more spiritual point of view. That is, using everday life as a tool for growth. It also emphasizes the fact that one can become a more complete person without having to embark upon the adventuresome and risk taking life that he did. (Oh yes, some of his fellow adventurer's were woman as well and there is definitely something in here for woman, even householder's, as well.)
My only criticism is the author's political naievete' which he sort expresses at the end but not blatantly, but that doesn't detract from the highly entertaining way that hard earned and quite useful life messages are communicated to the reader. (I probably only noticed the political stuff more because of my own sensitivity to that arena not because the author is trying to blantly push a political message because he is definitely not.)
If you are a "seeker" looking for a change of pace and refreshing read I think you will find it in this book. At least I did. In fact, I hope to reread it to remind myself of the useful messages conveyed if I can put down all of the other books that I have committed myself to, that is.
Adventures in Everyday LifeReview Date: 2000-12-15
While his of the Andes and Patagonia (from which one can learn an astounding number of ways to use one's hands when they are frozen solid) are gripping, Salz should be more readily compared to Richard Bach than Sebastian Junger.
Salz manages to give concrete ways of getting the spirit of adventure into your life without having to get your passport stamped... or even leaving your own backyard!
I'd recommend this book highly to anyone who feels like the grind of everyday life is getting them down. I look forward to his next book!

"Let's play Follow the Leader!" Perhaps you remember playing this game when you were younger. Didn't we all want to be the leader? In fact, were you disappointed when you weren't chosen to be the leader? We can't all be leaders all of the time. Imagine if we all wanted to be leaders in the workplace. You can't all be leaders as there has to be some followers. Perhaps you have been placed in a position of being a leader and aren't quite sure what qualities a leader should possess. What should a leader do in order to have his followers walk alongside him to success?
Are all leaders always successful? No, they aren't. It is a smart leader who realizes his mistakes, makes changes and leads others in the right direction. "The Way of Leading People" seeks to convey the Tao Te Ching method of leadership. It is over 2500 years old but remains effective to this day. Not only can these principles be utilized in business, but also in relationships and life.
"The Way of Leading People" is a soft-cover manual. This is not a textbook by any means. It is written in very easy-to-understand language and is sure to help any of its readers. There are 81 sections in content. Each section is written in poems with the ideas of Tao Te Ching clearly presented. Each section has black and white pictures of large skyscrapers and other abstract art to add to the ideas. It is sure to make you think and evaluate just what a successful leader is. This is an excellent book for anyone who is currently a leader, hopes to be a leader or is a follower who wants to help his leader become more effective. "The Way of Leading People" would make an excellent addition to the reference section of libraries of businesses and families alike.

On one hand, I'm glad that I may say honestly that many of the given hints and things to do are already common to me in my everyday life. But on the other hand, I also realise I have a long way to go before I can proudly say that I live The Scouting Way in every aspect of that daily life. And the book will most certainly help me to get closer to it, day after day.
Until now the book inspired me on two things. First I wrote an own story on my Scouting life. But the second is far more important. As everyone makes some kind of a New Year's promise, by example giving up smoking or something like that, I've promised myself what I've written in my story: to do my best to follow the rules and guidelines of Scouting in every aspect of my life, to spread out the words about Scouting to everyone who wants to hear them, to bring happiness to everyone as it was brought to me in all those years and to remain Scout for ever.
So, the only thing I can do here in this review is thank the authors for sharing those great stories with me. Please keep on doing this and I'll keep on using these stories to improve my own life and the life of everyone surrounding me.
