Set short, medium and long term goals

What an author. Dr. Stanley grasps the purpose for goals in this book so well that I could not help but start setting them in my life immediately. As a result, I have not drank in excess for over a year. Primarily because I'm too busy having a "go" at accomplishing my goals. It's important to note that they need to take part in filling our lives with needful action. Action that makes our day our years and our lives.

God's roadmap to success

This book by Dr. Stanley is like God's roadmap to success. The book reads like a how to book for success. Dr. Stanley doesn't just talk pie in the sky theology that only seminary students understand. He breaks down the issue into several bite size chunks to make the issue easier to understand. He then gives the reader a workable plan of implementation to make success happen. The material is also written in such a way it is easy to understand. The material flows easily from one subject to the other.

There is one thing that makes this book radically different than the tons of other self help books. This one is very grounded in the word of GOD. Each of his suggestions come from a verse in the bible. To me such references give his insights the ultimate validation.

As Christians we all tend to just coast through life in the pursuit to "be like Christ", but never have any real goals that we strive for. This book helps you define goals for all areas of your life and motivate you to work towards them. It doesn't matter if you are a missionary, a stay-at-home mom or a corporate worker, this book will have a major impact in your life. It sure did for me! I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book! It was more of a devotional book than anything else, touching on the principles of reaching true happiness, success, and evils such as greed and being negative. Success God's Way reminded me that in order to have true success one has to put God first and everything else will fall into place. I have now adapted one of the techniques that Dr. Stanley stated in the ladder part of his book, which is prioritize the initiatives and goals that you want to accomplish for the next day on a flash card before you go to bed and then put it in your pocket throughout the whole day. It is amazing how much more one can stay on task. The true examination I believe that this book illustrates is are one's goals Godly purposed goals striving to go along with God's plan, or are they individualized goals that do not fit in God's initiative, which makes their purpose lost and unmeaningful? Definately read Success God's Way!!!!!

Excellent Antidote to the World's Way of Achieving Success!

Once again, Stanley has written a down-to-earth book with practical advice. The Lord's definition and way of success radically differs from the world, and Stanley encourages us to focus on how precious we really are to God.

Among the many excellent points Stanley offers are:

1. God's ways are different from the world's ways.
2. Principles of goal-setting.
3. Ask God for guidance and leadership when goal-setting.
4. Keys to good time management.
5. Time wasters to avoid.
6. Keys for successful believing.
7. Principles about persistence.
8. Trust God to order your steps and arrange the details of your life!

Again, these are just a few of the many excellent topics covered in the book. Highly recommended and is an excellent supplement to the Bible!

I asked a friend if she wanted to know if she met her soulmate and she said she knew she had -- 15 years ago in another country so no she already knew the answer. Well when she ordered her own copy, testing the accuracy of the book she asked if she had met her soulmate and the answer was the person was in a foreign land! It blew her mind.

A great way of finding your answers, when your mind is too cloudy to think or to hear what your guides are trying to tell you. Simple, quick and easy to use. A fantastic book.

I bought this friend for my book and whenever we use it we get accurate results. It's very simple to use, all you have to do is hover your finger around a wheel of symbols and whichever one you are attracted to you look at the back of the book, find the page to turn to and read your answer. It seems a bit silly to have your finger point to an answer you need guidance on but it works. Although the questions that you can ask are a bit vague, the answers are not. I'd recommend this book for people who are not ready to divine with more complicated objects(ex: tarot, runes, iching) but for someone looking for simple straight forward answers.

This book is great. The answers are so wise and yet so gentle, working with the book is like getting the best psychic reading you've ever had. Last night I asked about a man who wants to come back into my life, "Is it a good idea to forgive him?" And the book answered, "Yes, perhaps, but this will not be the last time you have to be forgiving." I had a nagging feeling that was how this situation will play out, but I didn't want to admit it to myself. Now I will consider myself warned.

I do agree with one of the previous reviewers in that I had difficulty choosing an image at random using only my finger, but I solved this problem by using my pendulum with this book. I move the pendulum over the images until it starts circling, and eureka! There is the correct answer. You could also use dice, I suppose, since the book is big enough that the page with the images lies flat.

Highly recommended!

I don't enjoy giving negative reviews but...

This book wasn't for me. The book is supposed to give you answers, but its not as easy as its said to be. The book works like this. You're given 100 questions to choose from, and the questions are written in such away that just about anything you could think to ask is indeed in there. Next you hold you hand over a wheel with a pictorial representation of each of the 13 witch's moons. Here's the tricky part. You're to hold the question in you mind and your finger is supposed to be attracted to one of the symbols at which point, following the clearly written instructions, you would go and look up the answer to your question. My problem with things such as these, are my fingers are never attracted anywhere. I've been studying and trying the craft for the past several years without success. However, if you're one of those people able to use these tools effectively, this book would probably be a spectacular find for you. Its other benefit is this, just like a ouiji board, it can be a very fun thing for people to do at a party or whatnot.

This book did NOT make sense when I first read it...hahah...

It wasn't because of the book, but because I didn't understand the depth of this book. I was told to keep reading anyways.

As with any good deep spiritual book, the persistence paid off. This book turned out to be a gem. I loved it. Alice Bailey's has amazing books and I look forward to reading more.

You will enjoy this book if you want to learn more about Soul and deeper realms of spirituality (some of which I am still remembering).

First off, i would not recommend this book for anyone unfamiliar with Alice Bailey's writing. (Or, if you will, the Tibetian she channels.) I remember the first book of hers i read, was TELEPATHY, which helped me learn many of the theosophical definitions and ontological classifications. Another good first read may be GLAMOUR A WORLD PROBLEM. It's not filled with technical terms. Then again, some people may find that reading other theosophists, or perhaps ISIS UNVEILED is the first step. We are each on individual paths. However, if theosophical terminology isnt new to you, and you have a passing aquaintance with Buddhism, Christianity, hermetism and Hinduism, then you may find information in the book that you could use towards your spiritual evolution, and for the group work of your ray type. Like most spiritual reading, this book will give you what you need for wherever you are, while confusing you about those topics you are not either ready or permited to learn. After all, spiritual insight enters the disciple from the Buddhic plane, the plane of spiritual intuition. This book is both KEY and CURTAIN in its method. As is stated elsewhere in a review, Bailey has many "blinds" in her work, to confuse those who's intentions are not pure. A special caution for those who may be WICCANS, or young adolescents looking for love spells, or any kind of "PERSONAL POWER SEEKERS" in general. This is NOT the book for you. Not because the knowledge is too arcane, too advanced or too empowering for those incapable of handling it. This is not some long lost BOOK OF SPELLS, or anything like that. WHITE MAGIC, as Bailey understands it, is the ability to understand the purpose and goal of the Great Masters, and of the Cosmic Christ, and taking a scientific approach to prayer, to materialize the goal on the material plane. I suppose the real magic, is effective prayer. A final note: the difference between WHITE MAGIC, and BLACK MAGIC, is simple, but of utmost importance. The white magician never uses this information for selfish, materialistic reasons, or to obtain sway over the wills of others. If you EVER use magic, hypnosis, drugs, etc, to controll the wills of others, even if your intentions are good, or you think they are, you are practicing BLACK MAGIC. Because FREE WILL, the practice of HARMLESSNESS, and learning to serve the will of THE FATHER IN HEAVEN, (The GREAT WHITE LODGE in SIRIUS) is the real meaning of white magic. I think of much of her work, as esoteric christianity, since she seems to be working in the second ray group, which she has elsewhere indicated to be lead by CHRIST. For those whom this writing is meant for, you will certainly gain some interesting meditation themes, while sensitizing your intuitive buddhic plane. At the very least, you will be exposing yourself to some great stories. "MAY LOVE, LIGHT AND WILL BRING TO EARTH THE PLAN OF GOD."

I was in a busy phase in my life and was suddenly struck down by a freak dancing accident in a music class I was teaching to children in South Korea. I had to have knee surgery and had a long hospital stay. I ordered the book before I went to the hospital. This book stimulated me on every level: spirtuatally, intellectually, linguistically...I could go on and on. It is the book I've been waiting my whole life for. Strangely, I picked up Alice Bailey's work years ago but didn't understand it. But after two years of Raja Yoga and lots of meditation, I can say that I understood almost every word. This book will only speak to you when you're ready. But when you are, it may change you're life and the lives of others.

A Practical But Esoteric Spiritual Guide

Review Date: 2002-12-26
A Treatise On White Magic by Alice Bailey is a very special book written for those spiritual seekers who have found the spiritual path within themselves and who require specific and general guidance in moving forward. The book is divided into major sections, where each can be seen to deal with a major aspect and stage upon this path. There are sections that deal with the physical, emotional and mental aspects of ourselves and the books hints at how these aspects are and can be spiritualised.

A Treatise on White Magic, like so many of A.A.B's books, is not intended to be informational. On the whole, they are intended to be inspirational. By that I mean that the reader's intuition and spiritual perception is awakened through studying the book's contents.

This book cannot be rated too highly and will be appreciated by those who have a deep interest in all things spiritual, but not necessarily religious, and by those who can appreciate the spiritual and esoteric aspect of everyday life.

Plenty of interesting and informative information from the man himself, no more bio's or re-hash's

"this is my story and can't no one tell it for me"

The pictures are great as well, the whole layout really, it's incredibly well organized and put together from start to finish. The lyric sheets alone are worth the purchase price for me.

There are a few things that disappointed me, as a die-hard fan. Em is crazy. Like, lunatic crazy. He really holds back in parts and masks the truth in humor. Em, you're borderline schizo, half of your song 'crazy in love' is literally a love song to the 'half' of you that is responsible for your stream-of-consciousness rhyming ability. And you downplay Kim, your mom, and pretty much everyone else in your life, and your drug use. Your title should be 'The Way I Want Hailie to Think I Am so She'll be a Responsible Adult and Won't be too Upset at Me Now That She's Old Enough To Hear My Actual Songs'.

And I wanted more information on Infinite and SSEP and what it was like creating those albums. But anyway, great read, the very existence of this book is a dream come true.

Overall a very good book and an easy read. I thought it could have been a little bit more in depth. Visually, it is very entertaining. A very good coffee table book. I love the amount of pictures that are in this book. Obviously most Eminem fans will buy this book, but I think most others would also enjoy it. It paints a very good picture of where Eminem is in his life, and how he got there. I'm looking forward to hearing his new album.

Even though I'm a huge Eminem fan, I learned a lot from this book. He covers a lot of subjects that he hasn't before and explains a lot of recent events too. I think the book is very well-written, easy to follow, and very interesting. I've been waiting for Eminem to write a biography for a very long time and I think the wait was well worth it. I'm not too big on reading but I finished this book in three days. If you're an Eminem fan, buy this now. You won't regret it because you'll learn a lot from it.

A Must Read on True Worship
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-08
While Chris Tomlin does go over his story and how he got where he is, that is just the top layer of the book. The deep heart of it is what he learned through those different occassions in his life: discovery of his passion, the desire to pursue it, the times of humility, going to the mountain top and helping others to get there too. While it is some what directed to "worship leaders," it can be applied to anyone who wants to seek God's face while they worship. Whether the worship be at a service or concert, pursuing what God created you to do, or how you live out your life day to day. Because we were all created to worship God with everything and by the world standards, that does make for an unusual life, but what an amazing adventure it is too! An adventure that makes me incredibly excited to be on, even if I don't know all of the details right now. But God does and that's all that matters!

I first picked up this book when I was reading Praise Habit: Finding God In Sunsets And Sushi by David Crowder. Because Crowder's book was so refreshing and enjoyable (due to his writing style and stories) Tomlin's book seemed a little dry when I browsed through it.

Fast forward one year. I encountered The Way I was Made and had the opportunity to read through it. It was refreshing to see the progression of a worshipper and songwriter and realize that successful people are made over the long-haul not overnight.

Mr. Tomlin shares many insights into his songs, past and worship style. He also gives lots of excellent tips for building a solid spiritual foundation that should benefit any worshipper or worship leader.

Great book on worship!

Having recently read a number of books on worship, I found Chris Tomlin's to be concise, extremely relevant, and well-written--kind of like the songs he writes, I guess.

I think the biggest strength of this book is that Chris is so real. He doesn't try to come across as a saint, and so he makes the ideal of living out worship seem attainable.

And it didn't hurt that I kept laughing aloud at his stories.

This is an excellent tool that I use in Psychotherapy. You do not have to enjoy horses to use the 40 beautifully illistrated cards and explore the short chapter associated with the card. I have used it in career counseling as well as groups for people with conflictual self and relationships. This book has also assisted me in discovering what"gifts" that I bring in my life as well as what "challenges" I may have within me. This book is in a nicely done case in order to keep everything together. It is highly recommended as a reference tool for self or others. I have had all my friends pick their cards and I copied the pages for them to refer back to. I have now purchased as many books as I can find from this author and I will continue to explore her scope of self discovery using the horse as our guide.

These cards and the book make a great option for Tarot readers who want to branch out into different forms of reading for clients that are turned off by the old witchy reputation of the traditional tarot. The archetypes are well thought out. I have yet to master the different meanings and it will take study but I really welcome it. Many people are more open to horses than they are to other people!

I ordered these cards because I was planning to buy a set for a friend who is a horse-lover. This is not a traditional tarot deck, but instead a deck defining different aspects of life and offering a unique lens for looking at these aspects. There isn't any skill involved in using these cards (just pick a card in the morning or lay out 3 if asking a particular question) but they seem to offer insights at first use. The first question I asked this deck involved a relationship and I pulled card 6, "Rivalry" which described two people in a partnership wanting to dominate when it could be a more cordial relationship. I was able to discuss this insight with my partner. This deck lends itself to meditation, and is definitely the kind of deck you can use for deeper insights about a situation. It is not the kind of deck for "yes or no" answers. Also, the explanatory chapters on each card goes for several pages so be prepared to sit and read a while when you pull your card, as there are no quick answers in this deck. The book makes interesting reading on its own. The cards are beautifully drawn and perfect for any horse lover. If you want a deck of "wisdom" cards to look at daily, these are very suitable. There is so much wisdom to be drawn from horses, and with evocative cards such as "Kairos," "Merlin's Spirit," "Keeper of the Mysteries," "Maste of Sadness," and others, these cards and book allow a deeper look at any issue you might be facing. These cards will not tell you what to do. They will give you a new view of your situation with alot of food for thought.

I got this book at a Presbyterian church in the Seventies, probably through the youth group. After twenty-five years I still cry every single time I read 'Barrington Bunny'. Sometimes my tears won't even wait until the end of the story. As Barrington is turned away from others' Christmas festivities and family gatherings, I promise myself to remember that there's people out there at Christmas who have no one. This is the second time I have made multiple purchases of this book. Martin Bell has unique ways to express the Gospel, through poems, stories, music and more. I delight in sharing his insights with others who are searching for spiritual support in order to face today's focus on self. My two favorite stories are "Barrington Bunny" and the first appearance of the great silver wolf, and the description of God's "Rag-Tag Army." Prepare to laugh and cry, and to sit for extended periods meditating on what you have just read.

My wife and I first met Barrington Bunny et al, thirty years ago
and were touched beyond words by the story. We bought a "vynal" recording, which eventually went the way of all flesh with the assistance of a puppy. After many years of searching we "found" it (CD version) and added it to our collection. My only regret is that the "sound effects" that were on our original recording were not on the CD version. In today's hectic, get it done yesterday world, it is an awesome gift particularly for your grandchildren.

The Way of the Wolf has stories after my own heart. I agree with the others, I cry everytime I read the opening story "Barrington Bunny." The story about how the bunny who had nobody finds who his family and his gifts were just hits home in so many ways.

And the boy who lost his magic is such a great parable about the Incarnation of Christ, it is profound. And who couldn't be moved by Joggi the porcupine, who learned how to love from a blind raccoon. The tales, with the mysterious silver wolf, are timeless!

After many many years I finally got my hands on another copy of this book and couldn't be more happy to find that it still holds up as the charming and endearing read I remembered it to be. I am also finding it funny that so many of the reviews mention that they lost this book to a friend borrowing it and losing it as that is exactly what happened to me as well.

This remains my favourite Sweet Dreams book of all time and that's saying a lot as I own 250 books of the series! I'm a sucker for the cliché romantic formula of hate at first sight, even more when it's partnered with the `girl and boy pretend to be a couple' formula. This plot is by no means original but it's a refreshing, fun and witty read. Darby and Bruce meet when their cars collide into each other's and shortly realize it's a small world after all when Darby's cousin sets her up on a blind date later that day with none other than Bruce himself. Accusations of being a `Neanderthal' and a lousy driver are flung back and forth until Darby has to enlist Bruce's help in an attempt to get rid of the unwanted attention from another student.

The characters are endearing without being obnoxious and their run-ins with each other are hilarious. I owned this book when I was a teenager and lost it when I loaned it to a friend. It took another 10 years to track it down through ebay just as I was about ready to buy another copy of it somewhere else for $50!!! I've read this book many times, even now as a 30-year old and I always finish it with a smile on my face.

Definitely a must-have

I once had a copy of this book but lended it to a friend and never got it back. It took me three years to find a copy again and it was worth it because this book is so funny and so cute that anybody who ever liked young adult romance should have this title in her (or his?) personal library.

I have read this book twice. I will read it again. Whatever your spiritual belief, whatever your level of faith is or is not, you will be influenced by Rabbi Kula. His fundemental logical conclusions on what make all humans tick is right down the pike. The book is not a polyanna fix for all life's woes but it is sound advice on how to improve your life and improve the lives of the ones around you. You will cherish the read and you will recommend to others..... you can't not!

A Wise Guide to Life's Pilgrimage that Starts with Actually Celebrating the Mess!

I enjoyed this book myself, then one of our guest writers at our online magazine, [...], Gail Katz, wrote her own recommendation of Rabbi Kula's book.

Gail points out that, as a Jewish woman, this book touched her -- but I can also recommend this to a broader audience, as well.

The entire concept of the book is fresh and appealing because -- let's be honest -- most of us do not lead perfectly organized lives. Our lives are not only messy -- they're filled with ambiguity and daily friction. We love our family, for example, but we question -- and sometimes deeply disagree -- with some family members. The messiness extends further into our workplaces, communities and world.

Rabbi Kula is trying to provide a spiritual framework for accepting that messiness as part of life's pilgrimage. Rather than trying to escape it, he argues, we should realize that a certain messiness is the fabric of life itself. The challenge is where we will allow our yearnings to carry us in this pilgrimage through the mess.

This review pertains to the audio version, and is read by the author. I am a spiritual counselor and an ordained minister. However, my daily work is in the financial industry. I point this out only to give the reader a perspective.

If you have any interest at all in a real understanding of God and life, please read this book. Rabbi Irwin Kula shares wonderful insights and wisdom into why our perception and expectations of life are they way they are. He also helps readers to see the simplicity of our personal universe when given another, perhaps more considered, viewpoint.

There is a lot of rich material for thought and enlightenment here, so take your time and enjoy what Rabbi Kula teaches. For me it was like eating a great meal, every mouthful to be savored and all the food healthy and nourishing.

I found it a bit difficult to read cover to cover because of it's intensity. But I still thouroughly enjoyed the book when I jumped around to read sections relevant to my life. It has something for everyone. Its a kind of book that needs to be re read a few times to get all the meanings. Overall a very nourishing book

When I first picked up this book I was pretty overwhelmed with all the changes the authors recommend -- some of them are fairly significant alterations to my everyday life. But all in all, I think even starting with just a few of them and working your way up can be a great way to help the Earth, which is something we all want for our kids and grandkids. I'd definitely recommend buying this book.

Practical, Thrifty, and as committed as you want

This is an update to a book issued in 2003. It has 51 chapters, one for each tip, plus summaries at the end of the tips, the science, and the politics.

Each chapter is clearly written, organized with an Overview, What You Should Know, Easy Ways You Can Help, a summary box, and Search for More Info. The summary box tells you clearly what your personal savings are likely to be if you implement these, the annual amount of CO2 that will not be put into the atmosphere, and sometimes the dollar savings over the life of the product.

Each of the bulleted paragraphs in the What You Should Know and the Easy Ways You Can Help lead with a bold-faced short sentence encapsulating the enformation. The rest of the paragraph expands on it.

The whole is presented clearly, enthusiastically but not intimidatingly, and with sound advice that saves you money, and the environment from more harm.

This book provides you, the reader, with the tools to look deeper into each topic, but it doesn't guilt you into it. It tells you exactly how thrifty you are being, and how much difference one person or household can make.

Recommended.

Rather than trying to explain all the science behind global warming or politics behind the Kyoto Protocol, the authors present simple, clear, and easy-to-implement suggestions on how the average consumer can make significant reductions in his impact on the environment. Even for those who think global warming is "junk science," this book provides tips on how to lower gas and electric bills-and how can that be a bad thing?

You can Prevent Global Warming provides 51 tips for lowering carbon emissions and conserving energy. Almost every tip presented is completely free and every tip saves money. Many of the suggestions are not new-putting a milk jug full of water into the toilet tank to reduce the flow of water, lowering the thermostat just a bit-however, the authors also include exactly how much money and energy it saves by doing something simple. They also provide tips for people with varying levels of commitment. Already doing the toilet tank thing? They give you links to reviews of low-flow toilets. Is that still not enough for you? They explain composting toilets!

There were a few features I particularly enjoyed and appreciated with this book. First, I liked the list at the end of the book that placed each suggestion in an easy-to-follow format of which tips to do first and how often. I also really liked the useful links included. Rather than actually getting bogged down in science and mechanics, they provide web links to [...] and other useful sites. A major barrier in me doing some of the suggestions before (like vacuuming heater and fridge coils) is that I had no idea how to do these things and was (frankly) too lazy to look it up. The authors provide a link with pictures on how to do these things. Some of the links also take you to sites on how to contact Congress if an issue is important to you if the way you want to lower man's impact on nature is to become politically involved.

I was walking around my house implementing many of these suggestions as I was reading because of how simple they are. The authors never take a strong-armed tone, never guilt you into trying something they suggest. Every suggestion felt like they were saying "Good for you for doing so much! Want to try more? Keep reading!"

I strongly recommend this book to any home-owner (though it also has awesome suggestions for renters!). I have a number of family members who are always trying to be as green as possible without seriously changing their lifestyles, a few who cringe (or cuss) at the very mention of Al Gore but who are still committed to the Biblical mandate to be stewards of the Earth, and a few who are trying to do more and more-and they are all on the receiving list for this book.

Great tips for the beginner

A pretty comprehensive book of tips to help prevent global warming. There are also definitions of terms one hears in the news and in other venues about global warming. Many of the tips were ones I had already heard about or were steps I had already taken so there was not a lot of new information for me. But, it is very nicely organized and easy to read. This is an update from the 2003 version, however, there were a couple of tips that were not updated such as the section on reusing old floppy disks. You most definitely can reuse floppy disks, but I don't know anyone who uses those anymore. Overall, a pretty good read for the person in the beginning stages of fighting global warming.
