Feed your Soul; Fill your SpiritReview Date: 2003-03-08

Ken Gire is one of the most expressive writers of our day. His words paint a picture of our soul. Words that are simple, yet profound. Gire shows us how we can experience God through different avenues that intersect our daily lives. Don't be surprised by the tears that come to your eyes, they are tears from God showing you an area of your life that may need to be explored, understood or enjoyed. This is a book that you will continually want to come back to again and again.
I continue to read this book and find it as refreshing as the first time.
I disagree with the review from Hooterville. Ken Gire is very sound theologically and his work reflects this. Ken encourages us to look for new ways in which we can discover God. There is nothing mystical about discovering new ways for one to grow in their love for God and in their love for people.
On some levels insightful, but bad theological foundationReview Date: 2003-03-30
However, in "Windows of the Soul," Gire goes a step further and teaches that such endeavors are actually communications from God, "moments of revelation." The book is Gire's attempt at giving Christians insight into how to perceive such "revelations." Gire goes as far as to imply that such "revelations" possess an importance equal to that of the Bible, even referring to them as "God's word." Gire implies that Biblical revelation sometimes fails to satisfy our spiritual longings because, through it, "we are fed the experience of others. But they are not OUR experiences. I can read a psalm about David crying out from a cave in the wilderness, and I should read that psalm, but it is not MY psalm. It is not my psalm because it is not my cave, not my wilderness, and not my tears." Thus, Gire feels a need for a new category of revelation.
I sense Gire is well intentioned, but I believe, in this respect, he's teaching a form of mysticism, not Christianity. [Webster: "mysticism - the belief that direct knowledge of God, spiritual truth, or ultimate reality can be attained through subjective experience (as intuition or insight)"] And while I recognize that the defense of these ideas isn't the primary intent of his book, the theological extrapolations Gire offers are tragically sloppy and at times involve the assignment of new, unorthodox meanings to Biblical accounts and terminology.
Some might suggest that Gire's paradigm is just an elaboration on the concept of "general revelation," the Biblically supported idea that the world implicitly communicates certain things about God and His nature. However, the variety of channels described in "Windows," as well as the content of the messages Gire speculates they deliver, far surpass the traditional understanding of the nature and role of general revelation. (And Gire writes as if he's aware that what he's proposing is unconventional.)
READER BEWARE : I believe it is accurate to say that Ken Gire is advocating a theology and discipline not taught in Scripture.
When it comes time to contemplate the "furniture" of life and apply Biblical teachings to what you observe and experience, "Windows of the Soul" does document some good exploration in that regard. However, when it comes time to hear God speak, don't let anyone convince you God's revealed Word in Scripture is insufficient for the task.

If your an Aiborne fan READ THIS BOOK.Review Date: 2007-09-05
There is no foul language that I remember. It takes you through training to Berlin.
The 82nd Airborn Division stood and hooked up to jump the first mass combat jump in history, on July 10th 1943. Badly scattered on the drop, they looked at their maps to see if they knew where they were. Finally they arrived where they needed to be and in do time were fighting a small band of forces so they thought, but turned out to be tanks accompanied by infantry.
If you want to know more about the 82nd Airbore buy this book!

One can almost hear the roar of battle as the author, and the veterans describe fighting in the hedgerows in Normandy, or street fighting in Holland. I very highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in WWII history.

Real Birthing for Peaceful PeopleReview Date: 2008-08-27
An unanticipated plus for me, was seeing the fathers connect with their new babies floating in body temperature water, while mom got tidied up.
Alot of these father's were carrying their newborns into the office for follow up the next days and weeks, too. Quite an approach, and I sent this book to friends expecting this summer. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Women, this is also a great read for you because it helps you understand where men are coming from. Wouldn't you like to know what's going on in their heads? You'll smile and nod as you zip through each chapter, thinking, "Why isn't this required reading for guys in high school?" It should be!
Everyone will walk away with a better understanding of the opposite sex and will thank the author for his unpretentious, humorous, and easy-to-read style. Thanks, Steven!

Indeed a completely magical Tarot book...infused with a fairytale flavour and energy!Review Date: 2008-11-18
Why oh why did I ever wait so long?! This book is an amazing treasure, a sparkling gem of wit, wisdom, tenderness and knowledge. Michele writes in a personable and very engaging manner. I was completely enchanted and under her spell from the 1st sentence. Usually with books on Tarot (I have about a 100 or more!) I tend to jump around the book, skimming or choosing tidbits to read. With this truly magical tome though I read it cover to cover, I couldn't put it down.
Michele explains and describes the practice and art of intuition in such a way you finally "get" it and feel inspired and fired up! She weaves magic and casts a spell with her words, drawing you further into this fairytale word. She covers all the bases.
Her section on the card meanings is fantastic! Brilliant and poetic insights to each card. I am totally in love with the simply elegant yet deep drawings for each card by Rebecca. They really spark your intuition and your imagination starts going a mile a minute! I'd like to second the notion these would make an awesome and VERY readable, charming deck! I want MORE of her art!
In fact if it were a deck and book set, it'd be my #1 reccommendation to tarot beginners = ). This divinely magical book is now firmly set in my top 5 favourite books EVER about Tarot!
Thank you ever so much Michele Morgan for this gift and inspiration, it's changed how I see and use my cards!
You will in NO WAY be disappointed with this book. The faeries agree with me and are whispering to run and buy it! Best thing one could ever do in their Tarot studies.
Not much substance...Review Date: 2008-03-20
The book is broken down into three distinct parts:
Part One - Flesh and Bone basically covers the basics of tarot history, how to acquire the 'right' deck, how to do readings, and gives symbological associations.
Part Two - Heart and Soul covers meanings and possible interpretations of all 78 cards broken down by Arcana and then suit.
Part Three - Heaven and Earth covers the aspects of using tarot as a spiritual device and how to find a reliable psychic plus a little more filler.
I have to say, I was completely let down by this book....it is very basic and very cursory in the depth of information provided. Everything covered is pretty common sense and I found the writing style while easy to read a bit sophmoric.
I would recommend this book for novices and people interested in dabbling in the tarot, but this would be of little use to intermediate and advanced readers.
I'm glad I bought my copy used at a very good price, not something I would pay full price for.

Working through the pain of loss of a petReview Date: 2002-11-15
In the first part of the book Laura Carlson discusses the five stages of grief, the five stages of healing, memorial services and memorializing your pet. Throughout the book one thing stands out, that it is okay to grieve over the loss of a pet and there are ways to work through the grief.
The second part of the book contains many letters from pet owners who have lost a pet. The letters are written to the pets and show the deep emotions involved with the loss of a loyal companion. Reading the many letters one comes to realize the strength of the bond between many pet owners and their pets and the depth of grief that many go through. Recommended for those going through such a loss as it offers constructive methods of working through the loss and validation of their feelings.
