In my opinion, The Cruise of the Aardvark is one of Ogden Nash's best works. While toned down a bit, his sarcastic wit and unique verse is quite entertaining. The book is also educational, as children (and adults) learn some facts about aardvarks they may not have known. The book also has a great moral, teaching that everyone is unique, and while we're different, we are equally made. I reccomend this book for anyone, whether they have kids or not. I don't have kids, but I like to keep a copy on my coffee table for when I have guests. It always gets a good laugh.

How-To Gives Beginners Wings

You may have seen scherrenschnit or cut-paper silhouettes. The Asian versions of this art move into using the paper like heavy line strokes, or the lead in stained glass. This allows techniques like filling the frames with different papers (those fabulous Asian papers!) or even backing it with a sheet painted to suit. Different colors, even metallics, for the cut paper, cutting two colors to be arranged on a fairly simply background -- the variety of techniques possible in just "cutting paper" make this a fascinating media. If you drool over decorative papers, this may be the art you've been waiting to find.

A birdseye view on the overall perspective of the Database Management System. I find the SQL Playbook section a great help in applying immediately whatever I've learned about the SQL in the earlier chapters. An excellent guide book.

An old childhood favirote
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-22
Resembling the 'traditional' nuclear family politicians are especially fond of waxing about these days, my own parents wanted myself and a younger brother to understand and feel comfortable with diversity. Although our mother did not work outside the home for paid employment, we needed to realize other mothers did---and their families were no worse off than ours simply because of that fact.

The powerful prose made this book a childhood favorite of mine, and I often wondered what had happened to the book. Surely my brother and I could not have been the only people to have read this tittle? Sadly out of print, I strongly encourage anybody who finds a copy of this book to get it for the kids in your life.

The story centers on a family's readjustment as the mother reenters the workforce following a homemaking period. Because the two children have been so used to mom handling all matters domestic, seeing dad pitch in (and expectation of their own help) is initially shocking, but the family becomes a stronger unit from the new learning experience.

Unclear what the authors own personal politics are (invitations to join feminist organizations are NOT interspersed throughout the book) the storyline convincingly argues flexible gender roles benefit fathers allowing more bonding time with their children. Yes, Dad does get frustrated when disobeyed during chore time, but turns out to be a really cool person who makes awesome pancakes and otherwise knows how to entertain the kids (which, for some odd reason was not revealed before mom's new job).

Today's self-evident lesson in family love and diversity was quite radical in 1977 when the baby boom generation, themselves having been raised on infamously rigid gender roles was just starting to have kids of their own, and early generation gen-xers were growing up alongside the feminist and divorce revolutions as they shaped the way a nation thought about marriage, the family, communication, and roles

If you are looking for varied and facinating ceramic decorating techniques, this is the book for you. With the notable exception of stain wedging, this book has it all. As a high school ceramic instructor I am always looking for versitile and inexpensive decorating techniques. This book is the jackpot!

Wide variey of creatvie projects with excellent instructions

This is a wonderful book featuring a wide variety of unique projects to suit any taste. Project skill levels vary from easy to complicated. Though they do take some time & patience the end result is well worth it.

The instructions are excellent. Each project includes a materials list, templates & step-by-step instructions accompanied by color photos. There is also a full-page color photo of each project in its completed state.

Some of my favorite projects include a picture frame, an urn of roses, punched lanterns, Easter birds, a gift basket, a snowflake sewing box, butterfly greeting cards, people garlands, alphabet cubes & a Mexican ceiling banner.

I highly recommend this book for older children & adults seeking to create beautiful and impressive looking paper artwork & gifts.

The cover caught my attention. While I am familiar with Degas' work, I had not singled out his pastels. But I have been loving every page I have seen so far. The cover art is breathtaking with its stage light glowing from below. Interior art is reproduced well and flows nicely with commentary. Degas used very dynamic angles in many of his compositions which adds interest and drama visually. Easy to understand why impressionists had a hard time being acknowledged in their day and why they continue to look fresh to us today.

Beautiful book about beautiful automobiles

Review Date: 2007-02-01
This book is a visually stunning work on some of the most dramatic automobiles every built - the Delahayes of the 1930s. Adatto uses some of the most dramatic examples of coachbuilt Delahayes for this book and provides detailed information on each car as well as a general history of the firm and its racing legacy.
