This is a GREAT book. Every page was hard to read, not because of the difficulty of the style, but because of the difficulty I had being confronted with my sin. When you read this book you will be amazed at the depth of need for God's grace, and will be encouraged to seek it. This book gave me great hope because Watson shows us that Christ walks with us through our battle with our sin and sinfulness.

Thought provoking, challenging and encouraging in one.

Whenever you pick up Thomas Watson you know you'll be encouraged, chastened, corrected and excited by his words. Here we have no disappointment. 'Heaven ...' is a masterpiece of encouragement to 'keep at it.' The passage from Matgthew 11 verse 12 is put in its context, opened up and applied to leave the reader in no doubt as to its application. Wonderful stuff! May it achieve its goal and make us more 'violent' christians in the true biblical sense of the word! Take it and may the Lord apply it to you.

Something must have happened at number 14 Beatrice Avenue. Four policemen were maneuvering a bathtub out the front door and Detective Inspector Purbright was fishing about in the pipes. But was this a question of murder? An anonymous letter from a back-bedroom vigilante had darkly hinted at foul deeds in that quiet house. Both the owner, Gordon Periam, and his boarder, Brian Hopjoy, were missing. Inspector Purbright had found no corpus delicti...just a suspicious spill of acid and a nasty notion. Had a very clever killer poured his victim down the drain?

Brilliant intriguing and humorous mystery

The many twists in the plot mix with brilliantly drawn characters and understated and iconoclastic English humour. Watson takes you into an eccentric world and plot yet is always convincing, readable and entertaining. This is an outstanding book which deserves to be republished.

I love this book; it is very well-written and engrossingly informative.

Summary: The battle of Culloden has come and gone, but the English still occupy the Scottish highlands in the year of 1745. Two teens- Lauchlin and Ronald McLeod- are determined to wage their own private war upon their English occupiers. But when they go too far, Lauchlin and Ronald must go into exile in Williamsburg, Virginia. Their American cousins, the Treanors, take the young McLeods in; the Treanors are loyal Tories much to Lauchlin and Ronald's dismay. But there are changes coming to the colonies, changes that will cause both the McLeods and the Treanors to rethink their standings.

A wonderful book; I highly recomend "The Hornet's Nest"!

I sm definitely a reading person, but I must say that this is my favorite book of all time. It traces the journey of a Scottish girl forced to leave Scotland. She travels with her brother to England, and then to live with relatives in America. It is a mixture of adventure, humor, and romance, while giving an accurate picture of the beginnings of the American Revolution. This is a wonderful, wonderful book.

A christmas tradition

This is not only one of my favorite christmas stories of all time, but it was also a christmas tradition through all of my childhood. Each year on christmas eve my parents would hold me up to the trap-door for the attic as I listened to "brown mouse" scampering around above me. I have never forgotten this story, it remains my favorite to this day... wonderfully descriptive, sweet and playful, a must have for any child's collection. If you can find a copy snatch it up!

The Perfect Christmas Eve Story

This is the dearest Christmas book I've ever read. The first time I read it to my daughters, ages 4 and 7, we had to read it again right then and there, because it was so wonderful. I even phoned my ex-husband, their father, to share it with him!

The story is set on Christmas Eve in a large house filled with a human family and a family of mice, including small Brown Mouse who is so young he's never been in the people part of the house. The mice venture downstairs after midnight for "a long night of feasting and merrymaking" and return to their attic home at nearly dawn. The excitment, the sights, and the adventures they encounter make Brown Mouse's very first Christmas one he'll never forget.

The writing is marvelous. You can see, taste, and smell everything the author writes about. I think the story has so much more feeling to it than "... and all through the house, not a creature was stirring...". For instance, the description of the Christmas tree begins like this:

'A tall, tall tree all spicy and green hung with hundreds of twinkling, glittering things of all sorts...' and ends with 'and silvery light trembling on every branch, casting crisscross shadows on the ceiling . . .'

I think this is a delightful book, and I am so glad that it is still in print! I am even getting a copy for my mother, whose absolute favorite holiday is Christmas.

About 28 pages; darling pictures on every other page to hold your littlest one's attention.

This artist's instructions are the best that I have seen. I just started painting in 1993 and one of my passions is portrait painting. I did not know how to start and when I found this book in my local library I immediately purchased it. The artist takes you step by step with very detailed pictures. I only wish I could purchase his videos; however, I have been unable to find a source from which to purchase them. I would like to see more books from Mr. Du Toit!
