For the Seamstress & the Non-Sewer - Lots of Ideas

I was so excited when I found this book. Being a long-time hoarder of fabric and vintage lace, I now know what to do with it. I'd given up quilting, but hadn't given up the stash of material even though my interests now focused on scrapbooking and card making.
This book tells the techniques for incorporating ribbons, stitched effects, fabric prints and even actual clothing in your scrapbooks. The sample pages are inspiring and quite varied.
I like that it gives a number of uses that don't involve sewing so I can make a doily envelope for a page without pulling out needle and thread. There are iron-on stitch effects, and easy paper quilt patterns.
There are also lots of flowery pages using silk flowers, floral fabrics and paper flowers. This book has some really lovely scrapbook pages to get your creative ideas flowing.

She breaks down the steps so you don't feel overwhelmed or intimidated at all.

Jill is always innovative with her ideas using some very surprising and simple products to make your layouts extraordinary while not overdoing it.

Congratulations Jill on your continued success! Thank you for being you.

My boy of almost 6 was holding this book reading at our church's library. He likes, seem to be by nature, things even remotely related to military themes, soldiers and all. The reason for him reading the book was obvious - the numerous picture illustrations were well-drawn and lively - the fighting scenes, the good and bad guys etc.

Would have been great if the characters were illustrated as multi-national - given our ethnic background and those who are like us.

All in all, this book will probably make even myself read the story again although the book was apparently made for 8-year-olds or so. It should be in every Christian's family collection especially those with young children.

Having studied and taught the Pilgrim's Progress to my adult Sunday School class, I was happy to find this children's version to read to my kids. My two sons, ages 4 and 7, were enthralled as we read a chapter a night for 11 evenings. The illustrations are extremely well done and captivate young imaginations. The storyline is true to the original, with no sugarcoating. Obviously, it is best for a parent to have read and understand the actual book before reading this version with their kids. That way, they'll be able to elaborate and teach by asking leading questions (Why did the people at Vanity Fair kill Faithful? Why did Christian have to go through the Valley of the Shadow of Death?) For adult readers, the best version I have found is one produced by Bunyan Ministries...

Nature's "Universal" Antioxidant
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.

"All About Alpha Lipoic Acid" is a "must read" for everyone! This handy little "pocketguide" will help everyone understand just how essential ALA is to human health and how it can help prevent & treat numerous health conditions that plague our society.

Atherosclerosis, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetes, cancer (all types), Alzheimer's disease, liver disorders, and many other health conditions can be treated using Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Getting all of this information for less ... one of the greatest values you will ever come across!

Everyone should know about Alpha Lipoic Acid! It is the second most powerful antioxidant in the human body (glutathione is first). ALA is the only "universal" (both water and fat-soluble) antioxidant. This means that it protects both the outside (water soluble) and inside (fat soluble) parts of every cell against virtually every type of deadly free radical known to science.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is essential for protecting every major body system & organ (brain, eyes, heart, liver, immune system, etc.) It also helps increase the effectiveness of vitamins C, E, CoQ10 and Glutathione.

If you are serious about using Alpha Lipoic Acid, whether for prevention or treatement of disease(s), "All About Alpha Lipoic Acid" is a great "beginner's" guide!

Canadians must remember the lessons of Korea
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2004-08-08
This book is both wonderful and horrifying at the same time. In today's global environment, the lessons of Korea are all the more important for the Government of Canada, the high command and the Canadian public to remember! This book should be read and sit on the corner of every desk in the Department of Defense. Canadian should also reflect on the government's callous disregard of the navy's helicopter pilots (i.e. the Sea King Episode), or the fact Canadian troops were sent to Afghanistan in green uniforms. These episodes clearly demonstrate that politics wins over the lives of the service personnel every time, just as it had in Korea. Here we sit over 60 distant from the Korea war and the Canadian Government and military are still making many of the same mistakes.

Far Eastern Tour: The Canadian Infantry In Korea 1950-1953 by Brent Byron Watson (History Teacher, Okanagan University College) is a tautly written and serious-minded examination and history of Canada's involvement in the Korean War, including the hardships Canadian infantry suffered which included inappropriate training, stark living and combat conditions, and the deadly blood toll of the war itself. Far Eastern Tour is very highly recommended as being an extensively researched, carefully written, and scholarly accurate look into what living amid such combat was like, the pressures it demanded, and the extraordinary people who faced the horrors of war and did not back down from what had to be done.

I'm a big fan of Project Runway (though I didn't discover the show till the middle of the 3rd season)
I always wondered how they could make such beautiful clothes from just a sketch. Well now I know! You can tell the book took lots of time, blood, sweat and tears to put together. Beautiful inside and out. Love th flocking on the cover.
This book is not only great eye candy (the photography is fabulous) it is very informative. Gives great advice to us amateur seamstresses. I love sewing! But want to go beyond Simplicity and Vogue patterns.
Great job!
The picture on 26 and 27 is what heaven must look like. Said one sewer to the other!

I hope people buy this book and not just people who know Daniel V from Project Runway because it is informative, fun and inspirational. What more do you want for a book. The book itself is gorgeous - the kind of book only a person who loves design could create. I love the cover. It's covered with a velvet-like fabric that just makes you want to curl up with it on a rainy day with a cup of tea. The pictures of New York are beautiful and Daniel's not to hard on the eyes either. But the book is so much more than just another coffee table book.

So don't stop at just giving it a quick read and looking at the pictures! Daniel has create a real primer for the people interested in fashion, fashion design and marketing. Whether just starting out, a home sewer or just want to know more about clothes, Daniel walks us through the creative process and challenges the reader to try new techniques and to open their eyes to new inspirations. There are great interviews peppered through the book from both Project Runway celebrities and fashion insiders.

I'm a home sewer and knitter with an interest in becoming more creative. Reading Fashion Inside Out has already encouraged me to start carrying a notebook and a camera. My current projects are looking better and I'm approaching new projects differently. I strongly recommend this book.

A classic piece of misogynist conduct literature

Perhaps the most influential conduct book of the eighteenth century, Gregory's *Father's Legacy* is a must-read for any student of conduct literature -- right up there with Hannah More's *Strictures on Female Education* in its conservatism and prudery. If you want to understand where idiocies like *The Rules* come from, you'll find it here.

What tender words of wisdom.

This is what may be called passing on "old fashioned" advice from father to daughter, but I think it is an example of a father who honestly cares enough about his daughters to advise them on what IS proper. I think these words ring just as true today as they did in 1796. I wish that publishers WOULD continue to keep works like this in print. Some valuable truths might be imparted on our society about the reality of human interaction.

Feng Shui without fear!
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-07
I have browsed other books about feng shui that have made the subject seem impossibly arcane as well as very impractical for a westerner. FENG SHUI WITH WHAT YOU HAVE is accessible and clear; it not only explains what feng shui is and how it works as a philosophy, but also how you can put it to practical work in your home. One of the beauties of the book is that it's full of advice whose implementation requires only your attention and some time--you can make many positive improvements without spending a cent. I keep going back to the book as I tackle one problem spot or another in my home. In the long term relationship between you and your space, this book is a keeper.

Lots of fun with feng shui!!

As a college student, I found Feng Shui with What You have an insightful book on how to make any living space harmonious without breaking the bank. The book contained many great tips on how to create a stylish yet comforting environment using what you already own. After using the remedies found in the book to properly feng shui my apartment, it transformed into a more welcoming space. The book combines ancient feng shui methods with contemporary trends. By making simple changes to the placement of my furniture and by adding touches of specific colors, my apartment and the mood of all those in the apartment changed for the better. I would recommend Feng Shui with What You Have to anyone looking to make an improvement to not only their living space but their life in general.

Exactly what I was looking for. If you are looking for well illustrated practical instruction on plaster and wax modeling, then this will be perfect. Although it focuses on the human figure, the techniques could obviously be applied to any subject matter. Wax and plaster are both relatively cheap materials that have quick results and hold there shape and allow reworking later on.

The basics are covered at last!

This is one of the reference books I keep in my studio. It covers techinques on materials that are not covered in other sources. The set up of the book is logical and helps one to understand the materials and techinques valuable to a sculptor focusing on the figure and other forms of expression. So valuable are these techiques as they offer a sculptor the opportunity to quickly create his design with the use of fairly inexpensive materials. i highly recommend this book to anyone serious about sculpture.

Russell Watson Autobiography - Best Tenor in the World
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-05
I have purchased this book when it was released in the UK in June of this year. I could NOT put the book down, have been a loyal fan of Russell's since the year 2000, he's a fabulous tenor, he's called the "People's Tenor" and is not so well known in the USA as much as in the UK since he lives in Manchester and grew up in Salford. He's the best, the last 3 years have been horrific for him, as you will see when you buy the book. It is heartwarming and heartbreaking, you must order it, and give to loved ones and friends for a gift. They will be Russell Watson fans for life. It is the first book he has written, what a great writer he is, he will make you laugh, and make you cry, and make you angry. So be ready.
After you read the book, or when you start, if you haven't purchased one of Russell's CDs you must, you will find him in the Easy Listening section of the bookstores.xxxx
