After a 2 year search I've found this wonderful book from childhood. Taking a bath is fun, but wouldn't it be more fun with 3 peking ducks speaking Mandrin Chinese or 9 fine hippopotami?! The only limit to bath time fun is one's imagination, and this little girl has plenty of that! A wonderful book that has to be read more than once at a sitting. Great pictures.

"...My overall assesment of this book is quite positive... I believe Miller and Rodgers' discussion will be of interest to personal relationships scholars from across the epistemological spectrum. One reason is that nearly every type of personal relationship is attended to, in some way, in the OBS; there is insight in Miller and Rodgers' discussion to be found on friendships, marital and sexual relationships, and parent-child pairs. Bonding is at the heart of attachment, relationship development, affection, and other processes that are often the focus of research in the personal relationships field. As such, I expect Miller and Rodgers' book to be a useful contribution to these endeavors." - Kory Floyd, Arizona State University

I am sorry that my English doesn't allow me to express me as I would like but the book, for the one that is interested in the history of the nursing, also being of a school of well precise nursing, it is rich of information and it has a magnificent photographic part and its author, Mame Warren, it is a very kind person. Good book on the non general history of nursing

An Underappreciated Gem

Lee Garland is in his nineties now, and he's telling things this one last time - mostly for his grandson - about the only kin who's ever showed interest.

He begins with the massacre of his parents, and with the Mexican family who took him in and raised him at their place at Eagle Nest. They're dirt poor, and at fourteen he sets out to find his way, at first as a thief.
Time passes. He makes friends; pureblood Pawnee Tom Isbell; Mountain Moore; Marshall Ben Butler; and the mentor-like Luna who saves Lee's life and helps set him straight. Ultimately, Lee is able to buy the ranch at Eagle Nest, where he's now come to make his last stand.

He's always stood up for things that were right, and now he's about to do something a heck of a lot more Americans ought to - fight for what he believes. In this case, the enemy is the federal government. They've come to take away his beloved Eagle Nest and make it into a test range. They'll only do it by carrying him out feet first.

From storming San Juan Hill with the Roughriders to an unwanted career as a land owner and banker, Lee's adventures show life at the turn of the century the way it really was. For those who enjoy their history first hand, Lee Garland's story is a fascinating slice of Americana not to be missed.

I've reread this book many times. It's a true keeper.

Art Tirrell is the author of the 2007 adventure novel, "The Secret Ever Keeps", of which reviewer Meg W. said, "...Simply put, the best underwater scenes I've ever read." See the full review at Amazon.com /gp/product/1601640048

Human faces in Afghanistan...17 tales from the Kandahar war zone
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-26
A truly beautiful book!

This is a collection of 17 unconnected stories from the Afghanistan theatre; as told from letters, diaries, memoirs etc. of Canadian personnel (soldiers, nurses, carpenters, doctors etc.). Some of these people did not make it back to Canada alive. Some stories are recent, other cover areas back as far a 2001.

There is something that transcends normal story telling here; mainly because the stories told are true ones. The quality of writing makes you feel the anxiety of leaving home, smell of the garbage and sewers in Kabul, feel the heat and boredom of an Afghan summer and appreciate the fear and tension of firefights in a hostile country (especially at night). Truly writing at its best.

Three things really stuck with me about this book...

1.)how virtually all participants of this book felt so much empathy towards the Afghan people and their plight.

2.)the chapters were arranged in such a way as to make you aware that some of the contributors to this book actually knew and spoke about some of the other writers (whose letters where also used in this book), who had already died or would be killed later on. I find it hard to express in words just how much this moved me when I came across one of these few occurrences.

3.)and finally, this book could easily be described as a set of 'snapshots' of how the war has changed (for the worst) over the last couple of years. And although, to a man, the contributors of this book felt that they are doing some good over there, you begin to realize that with the paltry number of forces (NATO) that have been sent there, they have almost no chance of making any substantial difference in this tribal based, sectarian country.

Conclusions:
1.)A book that will make you stop reading and think.

2.)This is a book about war participants that have the qualities of good, caring human beings; who demonstrate all the emotional strengths and frailties that go with this distinctive attribute.

3.)The quality of writing, the telling of their tales will absolutely leave you stunned; but for all the right reasons.

5 Stars...more if I could

This book had me laughing out loud and craving a good beer! I couldn't put it down until finished, and thouroughly enjoyed the whole thing, sad it had to end. Ms. Peavey has a wonderful sense of humour and a fresh perspective on life, especially hers and life in Maine, especially hers, especially her life in Portland, Maine. This book and her other, Maine & Me, are both very funny and enjoyable reads. Mainers will especially appreciate them, of course.

I bought this book for my granddaughter, Kristy Soza Ardizzone, who illustrated the cover for my Tween book, THE TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY. I knew this fantastic collection would inspire her to greater heights in her own artistic creativity.

Needless to say, she was moved and inspired by these masterful, unique paintings by renowned artist, Jim Warren.

I, also, am deeply impressed by the aesthetic quality of each and every one of these magnificent paintings, especially the way Warren creates waterfalls from the cascading hair of beautiful women, the awesome cloud formations, intriguing figures rising from and merging with ocean waves etc.

The cover is uttlerly fabulous, prompting me to buy this book. Yes, the cover drew me in, but the entire collection is just as rare. A fabulous collection that every artist should have.

A gorgeous book you will treasure for years to come!
