A refreshing look at the Mayflower landing takes the shape of the voyage itself from the perspective of a sailor. The author was a sailor and describes the ship, the navigation and the voyage from the first sighting of land to the final anchoring in Massachusetts Bay. The book is very well researched.

Pretty weak book

Hagedorn's book is droll and boring. His examples are typical and his approach lends nothing new to the study. Buy if you want a weak text from a small man.

Lady in distress vs. bachelor detective
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-18
We finally meet the mysterious Tate Monroe. After earlier books with Molly Shipman and Laura Marshall we meet the 3rd college roommate from Maggie Davis's roominghouse. Tate is being stalked and it is up to Detective Nick Bennett to protect her. Like many stories Nick falls for the 'lady in distress'. Tate is a cautious lady. After years of torment by a stalker as well as other relationship problems Tate is weary of trusting any man. Nick realizes this. He works to win her trust. It is a gradual process but in the end Nick is triumphant. I really like how the author wrote the changes in the relationship between Tate and Nick. It happened gradually, naturally, not the unrealistic way common in many books. In the end Nick saves Tate and her son from the stalker as well as from a life alone. I thought this was a great book.

Fascinating Interviews wrapped around gold nuggets!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-02-20
Going through leadership books to look for something to learn is like going into a mega-grocery store when you are hungry. There's just too much "out there". Also, in all the "Do It This Way" books that exist on leadership, you never really know what works in the field, and what works just in the minds of some author trying to crank out another 5 pages. Leadership Defined, however, is different: it's a gold mine of inquisitive interviews with real people in real leadership positions in the real world. Though I don't know if I like the Interview - Interviewee format, the nuggets that come from here are real!

I personally liked diplomat Alan Keyes' and international educator and human right's leader Patrick Atkinson's messages. Mr. Keyes is clearly a polished political speaker. Mr. Atkinson clearly speaks from his heart and from the streets. Powerful! Powerful! Powerful! I want to hire him for my business!

This was an excellent selection for my purposes. It is a well organized, thouroughly documented and referenced supporting any and all principles given throughout the book. Because of it's excellent organization, it makes for an easily digestable read. You can choose how you wish to approach the book; it can be read cover to cover naturally, or you could select any topic and read in any order necessary to satisfy your immediate needs. Very well researched and supported with exact locations of examples drawn. I am very pleased to have this type of manuscript from which to build my policies and procedure manuals. The authors hit the mark and earn my highest rating.

Every person will profit from reading this book

Just the title already caught my eyes. Here I was in the midst of feeling hopeless about my marriage, not having any desire to work on it anymore and accepting my fate as inevitable when I passed by a row of books in a Christian gathering. Immediately, this understated cover caught my eyes. I didn't have enough cash with me then and managed somehow to gather the coins to buy the book and have been grateful ever since for the information and loving ways that it has conveyed this message.

Yes, there are secrets to developing a better relationship. Neil Clark Warren presents these revelations which most of us know from bits and pieces of other readings into a concise and user friendly method. That it is aimed at making marriages work was painful to begin with since that assumed that one had to have a desire to save his marriage.

Well, the topics and information will be good for any relationship and if it will save some marriages, it would have been all to the credit of the style and layout and content of this book.

I have been writing a series for the newspaper here guided by much of what the book says. My articles are called Food of Love and if that would help any of the readers, they have Mr. Warren to thank. His name is always mentioned in the articles.

More power and blessings to you.

Excellent description of phenomenology of psychosis

Dr. Reed provides an excellent conceptual basis for understanding the functional psychosis. Unfortunately current operational criteria for diagnosis minimizes the importance of the underlying phenomena. Dr. Reed provides a clear basis for understandin the difference between depressive psychosis, mania, and the schizophrenias. This descriptive phenomenology approach has been missing from psychiatry in the last decade.

Charles Dodgson / Lewis Carroll's Symbolic Logic
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-10-17
This book has been extremely helpful to me in writing my PhD thesis on Dodgson (Carroll) and his remarkable didactic approach. Unlike many other Victorians, Dodgson used fantasy, imagination, humor and vivid visual descriptions and charts to teach logic to students of all ages - from young children (like Alice) to high school teachers in girls' schools (he promoted logic to all sexes!) and to students in college. Bartley's book presents in a clear and comprehensive manner many of Dodgson's syllogisms and graphic techniques. It also provides insight into Dodgson's methods and history in the introduction, as well as presenting information such as letters and illustrations that shed light on Dodgson's way of thinking. Students / teachers of logic / computer science will be interested in the problem set presented in the second half of the book, with various versions and solutions, including the Members of Parliament Problem and Froggy's problem.
