In this natural followup to The Beasts of Delphos, Adessa Tetrostsionu is a cultural anthropologist from Delphos come to Allahu'akhbar, a world orbiting a red giant, made of diamond and controlled entirely by an ancient religion.

As Adessa learns of the ways and customs of this strange planet, he finds more than he expected when he's befriended by a local family. He learns that some values, such as trust, respect and love, are truly universal; he learns that some laws are not to be broken; and he learns that not even the gods can stand against the power of one human heart.

Outstanding Guide for Caregivers of Alzheimer's Patients
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1999-06-11
This well crafted hardbound volume is in it's third edition and a welcome standard for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients. Written and edited by a team of doctors, nurses, and socialworkers, this book aspires to be the comprehensive guide to caring for patients with dementia. The first section focuses on brain function and how alzheimer's disease is identified; section two turns it's attention to causes and diagnoses of alzheimer's; section three brings forth an array of issues related to patient care and management of alzheimer's behaviors (perhaps the best and most pratical section of the book, because much of it is directly related to day to day care of the patient); section for focuses on special issues such as stress caregivers experience and legal issues; section five is perhaps the second best unit of the book, with practical ideas and solutions for caregivers in finding support and resources in the community to assist in caregiving. Overall, I highly recommend this book. It does have a hefty price tag, but it is well worth it

Borrowed from library, but was not enough. This book packs more real information in clear English, well organized and actually interesting to read. The price for a paperback is too much, but I can't do without it for a constant reference. B/W Pictures throughout. I have 34 history books on and around the 20th C. Yet I am buying this one for sure! Exerp (with picture) "Protest at Wounded Knee - white Americans were shocked in 1973 by pictures such as this one of the Indian occupation of the town of Wounded Knee, SD. This member of the Sioux tribe stands guard in a newly constructed bunker, a row of loaded rifles close at hand and an American flag contemptuously displayed upside down.." Exerp (picture) "Demonstrators lie down in front of the Pacific Gas and Electric building in San Francisco to protest the company's use of nuclear power...the antinuclear movement became the most widespred popular protest since the end of the war in Vietnam, and it illustrated the changing nature of dissident politics in the 1970s" Suggested readings at chapter endings. Full index. Medium size of book with stiff cover make it 'almost' hardback.

Colorful Tribute to the 8th Air Force!

Warren Bodie is probably America's last independent aviation history author-publisher. Over the years he has written and self-published a series of books - Pacific War Eagles, Republic's P-47, Lockheed P-38 - noted for quality research, top-notch photo reproduction and excellent paper quality.

Bodie's latest book, the first of two volumes on the 8th AF, is his best yet. It features over 180 pages of insightful text and ultra-sharp photos - many of them rare and many given the full-page treatment - showing the men and aircraft of the Mighty Eighth. Thirty-two pages of color photos and gorgeous color profiles by Bob Boyd are icing on the cake.

Though it resembles a coffee-table book, Bodie's book is much more and is great value for the price. More power to you, Warren!

Highly recommended!

This is a comprehensive, well researched book on a spectacular collection. Miss Ima had a great eye for fine furniture and art of the American Federal Period. This collection is second only to the great Winterthur Collection as a repository of American Federal furniture. The setting for this collection is breathtaking, the mansion is beautiful and the setting, in Houston's finest area has to be seen to be believed. Miss Ima's collection is huge and the house, though large, is not big enough to showcase all of it, so when one visits the house they may see different items then they would have seen months earlier. To visit Bayou Bend in the Spring is to experience heaven on earth. This is a great guide to a singular collection in a unparalled setting. I highly recommend this guide and make a point if you are in Houston it visit this amazing house and collection, I assure you, you won't be disappointed.

Angel Cuadra's text offers a first hand account of the Castro regime's squashing of independent artists and forcing Cuban art and culture into the narrow confines of Castroite ideology.

The Animals Watched is an ABC picturebook about the biblical story of Noah's ark - as told from the animals' perspectives! From the aardvarks to the quetzals, warthogs, and zebras, each animal corresponding to a saw a different thing. "'We,' said the yaks, 'we saw the rainbow God set in the sky and heard him say, 'I will never again send a flood to destroy my beautiful world.'" The charming color illustrations by Rosanne Litzinger add the perfect touch to this read-aloud picturebook.

An artist's view on the 20th century
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-17
Anna Sokolow, (1910-2000) through her long creative life and through teaching of new and
independent living
generations of artists, was always busy in art and not in her credits. Anna is an outstanding example of an
artist who uses art as a way to communicate and to inspire. This book illustrates what it means to be total artist and completely committed to Art. It illustrates how art is a
language that enables people from different classes, countries, and cultures to communicate and discover collective
human feelings. The book takes the view that Anna was the right person at the right place at the
right time exposing us to an artistic giant and looking at the events of the twentieth century through her eyes. Many people from many
professions try to deal with past, present, and future, and I feel that
artists like Picasso (painting), and Sokolow (body movement) have a different kind of understanding of
their specific period, with social involvement without pretense and with their pure, penetrating, and
minimalist language. this is their way reacting to a Society that sometimes criticizes them for their independent
ways. This book is an an excellent basis for further study of Anna Sokolow's life and art.

After reading this book, I became really interested in the things that dictate my life. The book points out many of the items that lead to the life of serial killing. The author does a great job at tying the methodological to the practical in the story line, while at the same time educating us about both: ourselves, and the world that we have created.
I highly recommend this book, and suggest it's reading to everyone I know.
