Statistics and Quantitative Methods have never been particularly friends of mine. This book is approachable, reads well, has very clear examples, and sample problems.
If you are looking for a book to introduce you to Six Sigma, and teach some very useful tools, make this the first book on the subject you buy.

The pain of coming homeReview Date: 2001-09-09
Having a home and a permanent family is wonderful, of course. But older children don't know that when they come home. They are often angry at being uprooted and taken to strange new places, where people speak a foreign toungue. They are understandably frightened. So many new things in the early days assault their senses that days can seem like a lifetime.
This soothing story eases the pain of that transition. It helps them to know that they are wanted, waited for, and loved, even before they arrive. It eases the terrible pain of the transition. If you buy no other adoption story for your internationally adopted child, make it this one. Alyssa A. Lappen

Tropical Asian StyleReview Date: 2007-12-11
Definitely some of the best of Southest Asia...Review Date: 2000-05-18
Truly Gorgeous Overview of Tropical Asian LuxeReview Date: 2000-08-28
It is not a detailed exploration of regional design elements (look to Bali Style, Thai Style, Tropical Garden Design, et al, for the next degree of depth). It is, however, a rich overview of the best of SEAsian luxury architecture and furnishings.
Every page is simply gorgeous, with photos "bleeding" out past the paper, one trait of a good coffee table or style book. There is little or no image repetition in the coverage of the homes or boutique hotels featured, and each photo is perfectly focused, every composition seen in its best light.
In all the shuffle of Thai grandeur, Balinese earthiness, and Malaysian simplicity, the book might at first glance seem to be presenting a kind of fusion. I think it's fair to say that there is plenty of contemporary blurring of the distinctions between regions, but the reader can also look for regional elements and quickly learn them. Each property is given its own mini-chapter, which helps a lot. And the regional details and sensibilities really come alive when you read the accompanying texts, which are the work of expert style writers.
In fact, the contributors list reads like a who's who of style gurus. There is the clever and quippy Made Wijaya, descriptive Diana Darling, the meticulous William Warren, and details-minded Robert Powell. It's a great read!

fabulous ideas for open-air livingReview Date: 2001-07-28
I didn't read much of the text because the pictures were so captivating. They show every aspect of the tropical Asian house, except perhaps kitchens, which seem to be nothing more than a stove-type device near the dining area. The predominant theme is living among nature and even inviting it to share the living space with you (or is it the other way around?). Instead of windows and doors, you see slatted screens and netting. Very romantic. And a far cry from most of America's obsession with locks and glass. I need to move......

A fun read -- and more!Review Date: 2008-01-26
And, I so agree with other reviewers that the last chapter pulls everything together in such a satisfying way. As someone who has heard many a story told by an elderly person, the author sums up memory perfectly: "Never is being so permanent as in yesteryear, when...soft memory solidifies into story, and in that solid form, rejects the anguish of reality..... If we exist at all after we are gone, it will be as a story."
Turpentine is funny, interesting, and just a wild ride that will make you smile and think.

The West - Buffalo, Fossils and ThrillsReview Date: 2008-01-10
The unique characters Warren has developed and the outrageous circumstances that they find themselves in make this book a page-turner from start to finish. The reader cannot help but reflect through the hardships of Ned "Turpentine" the impacts that our choices emboss on our lives and on the lives of those we are entwined with. Even if the reader is not a fan of the Western genre, this is a novel that embodies the best of the Western while transcending it further to an exploration of the best and worst in the human condition.

Genius in 140 Characters or LessReview Date: 2008-11-18
Seriously, how much is there really to say about a goofy web tool that only lets you messages up to 140 characters at a time?
After reading Twitter Revolution, I realize a LOT!
While I had messed around with Twitter for about a year, I really didn't get much out of reading about what a bunch of strangers ate for breakfast. I felt even less motivated to post response to "What are you doing?" If I didn't really care what I was doing half the time, why should anyone else?
Then I realized, much of the time what I was doing was reading books about social media. The silly book on even sillier Twitter seemed to be one of the only ones left. My guess is that if I could sit still long enough to read Gravity's Rainbow or the Glass Bead Game, I never would have ordered the Twitter Revolution. Now, I'm so glad that I did.
Warren Whitlock and Deborah Micek opened my eyes to a world that I am now arguably obsessed with; one where ease of access to seemingly superficial engagement with others is a bridge to deeper connections.
From a business perspective, using Twitter the way Whitlock and Micek describe makes "Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers into Friends and Friends into Customers" a reachable reality by beginning with simple ways to earn trust, learn more about each other and provide potential solutions to problems. Bringing a real voice [one that doesn't try to divide "professional" from "personal"] to ongoing conversations is refreshing and exciting.
I now better recognize Twitter as an amazing tool for doing just that and much more.

If you want to learn how to use twitter to your advantage read this bookReview Date: 2008-11-15
I found Twitter to be an effective tool for communication and business. In fact, I liked it so much that my friends started suggesting that they needed to send a Twitter Intervention team to get me off the thing. Twitter is fun and addictive and, if used effectively, it can positively impact both your business and personal life. This book is the tool you need to take advantage of Twitter.
THe book is an easy read..I read it over a 4-1/2 hour plane flight and has information you can put immediately into use. I highly recommend it.
If you "don't get it", then you have to get "it", "Twitter Revolution"Review Date: 2008-11-16
I created my first Twitter account in July, just to see what all the commotion was about. I quite honestly didn't get it! Fortunately I somehow stumbled upon the "Twitter Handbook", which is the primer for the "Twitter Revolution". That changed everything! Now Twitter is a fundamental part of my social and business life.
"Twitter Revolution" is a must read!

Thursdays with MayberryReview Date: 2004-07-15
In spite of all the prejudice Dr. Mayberry has experienced in his lifetime, he remains an American optimist particularly concerning cross-cultural relationship and especially black-white relationships. That optimism is reflected in Dr. Mayberry's statement "this is a new day for America". Is it? At the micro level, I am well aware of black-white relationships that are deep and respectful. But is that true at a macro level? I would like to think that it is becoming truer. The reader is invited to ponder that and many other thought provoking ideas from the mind and life of Dr. Mayberry.
Finally this book points, briefly, to the power of, and thus the need for, mentoring as we come to understand that Dr. Mayberry's mentor was George Washington Carver, and Dr. Carver's mentor was Booker T. Washington - great men passing their intellectual and humanitarian legacy onto the next generation. It begs the question for older men and women to ask: What is my legacy? Is it worth passing on? If it is, am I doing it?
Where Will We Be When We Get Where We're Going?: Thursdays wReview Date: 2004-07-09
Where Will We Be When We Get Where We're Going?: Thursdays with Mayberry by M. Anthony Warren, in my humble opinion is a read that all of us should share and discuss. A well thought provocative discussion of these two gentlemen and their relationship will inspire you, and yet it will be a challenge for you to act upon its content. This book is for the young and old alike; no matter what depth of color, or lack of color your skin may be.
If anything, it will indeed self question your own thoughts and beliefs of human kind, your own culture, whatever race or ethnicity you may belong. We should only become better persons, with and for each other, when we challenge this books content.
Where will we be when we get where we're going?Review Date: 2004-07-09
The history aspect of the book, Dr. Mayberry being the student of George Washington Carver, and George Washington Carver, the student of Booker T. Washington reflect one on one education with some of the greatest scientists produced in the US. These men were the backbone of the creation and future of Tuskegee University. They play an important role not only in Black history, but in science. (how likely is this style of education going to happen in American universities today)
The relationships discussed in the book relate to everyone; young and old, red, yellow, black and white, male, female, etc. How am I relating to others and they to me? How do relationships effect the future of our society. This book made me stop and rethink where will I be..

Go Back to 1841Review Date: 2004-10-19
Warren Bull shows the reader how the law was perilous at times. The story unfolds in a way that keeps the reader in suspense trying to anticipate what will happen next. I couldn't stop reading it and would recommend it to anyone who likes mystery or history.
Witty and entertainingReview Date: 2003-09-26
This trial is unlike any that would happen today because of the speed at which it moves. Part of the thrill is the sense of hasty vengeance that the townspeople encourage in their actions and words, making a "fair trial" quite a challenge for Lincoln and his defendants. Here is evidence of society making quick judgements and demonstrating only too human desire to make "right" from "wrong."
I enjoy books that create suspense, envelope the reader in another time and place, and generate unexepcted consideration of other points of view. Yet this book also contributes to a historic body of knowledge. Through a very pleasant mixture of fact and fiction, Warren Bull has created such a book, and I think readers will enjoy taking this step backwards in time and reflect on the ways human being have changed and yet have not changed at all. An additional plus are the reproductions of documents written by Lincoln and included as optional readings in the Appendix. I enjoyed reading Lincoln's take on the events of the trial after having read the author's interpretation of one possible solution to the mystery.

Anyway, after all the backlash following the Clay Shaw acquittal it was still a tough sell, and the typical Congressman would give you no more than 5-10 minutes time to make your case, so we needed a one or two page list of powerful bullet points demonstrating that Oswald could not have acted alone, if he acted at all, and showing that the Warren investigation was compromised by the FBI and the CIA. These were serious allegations, so each
point had to be backed up by solid proof.
At the time, there were 5-6 serious books damning the Warren Commision Report: Inquest, by Edward J Epstein; Rush to Judgment by Mark Lane; Six Seconds in Dallas by Josiah Thompson; Whitewash by Harold Weisberg; and They've Killed the President by Robert Sam Anson.
In creating that fact sheet, no book was more carefully documented than Accessories after the Fact, and no book was more comprehensive and meticulous.
When we had to source each bullet point Meagher's book did the best job in directing us to the proof.
I left the Hill in 76--before the HSCA was created, and it has always bitter disappointment to me how its own work appears to ha ve been sabotaged, not unlike what happend to Garrison.
In the years since I have retained a keen interest in this topic, and at last count have read over 40 books. Meagher's book still remains one of the two or three best books written about JFK's death. In fact I consider it one of the best forensic investigation reports I have ever read in 25 years of practicing civil rights litigation.
