This was an excellent book containing powerful and moving interviews filled with stories of people's personal experiences with reconciling sexuality with the Church. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for this sort of reading; I've already read it and shared it with friends.

A rational, powerful and moving assortment of testimonies.

Beverly Cole, a devoted Christian and the mother of a gay son, presents Voices from the Kingdom: All God's Children Have Keys, a collection of question-and-answer format interviews with faithful gay and lesbian believers, whose voices are all too often drowned out by mainstream church debates over whether to condemn homosexuality as a sin. Voices from the Kingdom is emphatically not a politically-minded, or agenda-driven compilation, but rather an expression of spirituality, community, hope, and love. "'What are your thoughts on gay marriage?' 'Politics aside, if we want linguistically to use that term marriage to refer to male and female, so be it. But, being a humane society, we need to come up with a term or concept, and not just for equal rights and health insurance but equal value for the blessing of the relationship. I'd settle for that. I would hope that the traditionalists could share equal respect for same-sex relationships as for opposite sex relationships. I don't see that it is any threat to the sanctity of marriage. A gay couple across town does not threaten my marriage to Mary Lee.'" A rational, powerful and moving assortment of testimonies.

I have owned this walking workout for several years and I love it. It's so much better than simply listening to the radio while walking, because the beat of the music keeps you on pace. It gradually gets more intense, so you have time to catch your breath. I keep hoping Kathy Smith will produce more tapes.

Excellent walking work-out companion!

Kathy Smith is great! I first began using her aerobic video, so when I became interested in walking for weight loss, I bought this tape along with her other "Walking for Weight Loss" The tapes are excellent for keeping me paced at a fat burning level, keeping me motivated. There are 4 workouts on this tape, (2) 30-min, (1) 40-min and (1) 60-minute, so depending on what kind of workout I want, it's all in one set!

Being an avid reader I did know who Scott Allen Nollen was. The author of 16 books was educated in Film and History at the University of Iowa. He is currently on staff at Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas, Texas.

So when I saw the recent McFarland Publishing book "Warner's Wiseguys," it caught my interest. I had known Virginia Mayo for many years and her leading man in many gangster films, including her most favorite, "White Heat," was James Cagney, so I knew that he'd be included. A young Bogart also got his start in these type of films and Warner's round out of tough guys would have to include Edward G. Robinson. All three were featured in this wonderful new book.
These wise guys who rounded off Warners' top leading men are now synonymous with the studio's era of gritty gangster films. This book is complete with commentary from the author and other film buffs. Warner's was not my favorite of studios, and MGM being most people's favorite was not either. I loved 20th Century Fox, but Warner Bros. Studios cranked out an amazing amount of work out of their actors, which is why Bogart and Bette Davis were so excellent in their roles in movies. Bette said, "You never got a chance to get lazy. There were always movies being made."

But this book not only brings out the truth of the Warners system but it chronicles all 112 movies that the three actors aforementioned starred in. The book also showcases some rare and amazing photographs of many Warners stars and is edited to precision. Anyone can pick the book up, finish a chapter or two and then start again later and feel like you know the story. The author's style of writing commentary is one that I enjoy doing and also love reading. My favorite chapter is titled "Playing All the Angles." It is how Warner Bros was run and how actors who became huge stars at the studio were forced to comply with. Cagney probably understood it better than most, Robinson seemed to enjoy it most, while Bogart was an accidental star but truly the biggest the studio has had. Even though he languished for years in Purgatory, but not in this book, there's a wonderful and well researched chapter called Bogie in Purgatory.

The book is easy to read, but not overly simplistic. The cover very catching and that's important in today's marketing. I enjoyed seeing some of the old movie posters as well featured in this book. Mr. Nollen has done a great job and I give this read four out of five stars. It's a book that has a definite niche audience, but for any old Hollywood buff, this book is readable and suggested reading as well.

One of my favourite Joan Aiken books. From page one, the reader is drawn in to the story. Aiken is a great storyteller, you feel like you are part of the story. Her description of the characters and situations are so good, you feel like you are there. Like most Aiken characters, they are remarkably original and un-stereotyped. In this novel, she goes into particular detail regarding the suffering of a bride of an arranged marriage in the 18th century, and how she deals with her almost hopeless situation, while at the same time finding room for many happier events. However, like several of her other novels, she doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the realities of dangerous situations, so watch out for murder, cruelty and death along the way...

one of my favorite books

This book is comprised of two parallel stories, one beginning in India and the other in England. The journey of Cal and Stella contrasts well with the abusive new home of their cousin Fannie. The descriptions are vivid, and the storylines draw you in from the start. As in all Aiken's books it is full of adventure and mystery (but it is not as far fetched as some of her children's stories). Finally, there are those little details (not so little if you've paid attention to her writing) that connect this to her other books. If you've read The Smile of the Stranger, you'll appriciate them, but it is not necessary to have read anything else. All who enjoy a compelling read should get this book!

Fletcher, the hero in this one, is the son of Maggie from So This Is Love. He leaves California and goes to Scotland to regain his lost title. Talk about suspense! He falls in love with a minister's grandaughter, not realizing he has pulled her into the dangerous situation he is in. The man who stole his title is trying to kill him. A beautiful love story, a strong hero with a tender side, a heroine who saves the day. Truly satisfying.

The second of the Moses Wine series of detective novels from Roger L. Simon. If you liked the Big Fix you will also like Wild Turkey. The counter-culture of the 60's/early 70's meets Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. All of the Moses Wine mysteries are worth checking out. They will not disappoint. It is interesting to note that the first Moses Wine mysteries were originally published by Straight Arrow Books which was a subsidiary of Rolling Stone Magazine.

Wow, This was the series of books that got me hooked on historic romance! Mrs. Sherwood's knowledge of history, culture and geography, not to mention sociology, blended with her uncanny talent at spinning an intriguing plot with very well defined characters will have you reading faster and faster to try and find out what will happen next.I wish she would write more!

The story is set in the 1870s. Julienne is rich, beautiful and intelligent, she is related to the Habsburg family and lives in a palace in Austria. Yet she is unhappy, her abusive husband terrorizes her and her children. She decides to flee; leaves Austria with her children and goes to Paris. She lives the life of a middle-class woman, finds new friends and meets a young British nobleman, Edward, who is trying to escape his own past. Julienne and Edward fall in love and slowly their wounds begin to heal -- but Julienne's husband is still searching for her, and the war breaking out between France and Prussia brings new hardships...

There is also a film made of his book, a French film called Princesse Alexandra, it's a nice one but simplifies the story too much, also, they changed things like the characters' names which makes no sense. The book is better.
