How to Find your Inner SpiritReview Date: 2005-11-08
The author talks about your personal spirit. He defines spirit as a universal and omnipresent force present both within the universe and within the self. It is a individual, personal spiritual part of our selves. Religions write about spirit but Kornhaber does not bring religious dogma into his exploration of the understanding of spirit.
He calls "spirit" a seventh sense which deals with the meaning of life. Religious beliefs, cultural beliefs, societal institutions or psychology may help but they can not explain completely the working of Spirit.
sometimes serve to de-spirit individuals.
His book is about examining what we are or could be and how we have changed and lost touch with our Spirit. He thinks that if we can see what we were as children and what we have become as adults we can choose to return to being in touch with our Spirit.
Our Spirit can be a support for joy, for relationships, for grief, for disconnecting from de-spiriting people. If we can hear our Spirit speaking it will help us be what we want to be in all aspects of our lives.
This book is is for all people whether or not one believes in God or a Greater Power or even believe that God does not exist.
It is how to become spirited in a world that has so many de-spiriting influences.
It is up to each individual to choose to make this journey.

I gotta say that I bought this book from a used bookstore to use as a reference to get some quick info on books by King that I hadn't read yet. I do like S.King's work and have always thought of him as a great author.
The material in The Stephen King Companion was so interesting that while my original intention was to keep it around and use it every now and then, I ended up reading the entire thing from cover to cover. George Beahm knows what is interesting to read and he and put that in front of me.
I did get all the information that I bought the book for and a whole lot more. I'm just a casual fan. I say that because like a lot of people I know that S.King is always good for an entertaining novel. He's reliable. Very seldom does he produce a dud. With the amount of books he's written, that's remarkable.
Now, I not only got overviews of a lot of the books by S.K. that I haven't read but I got a some of the hows and whys of what makes this writer so successful.
Thanks George Beahm, you put together a really enjoyable book.
I would highly recommend George Beahm's The Stephen King Companion to anyone who is interested in knowing more about this phenomenal author whether you are a fanatical fan or not.

Telling it like it (still) isReview Date: 2001-05-16
Paul Stern was a CEO of 4 multi-national companies (Unisys, Burroughs, Braun and Northern Telecom) before the age of 50! His insights into the ethics and discipline of rising to the top on one's own accomplishments, should be required reading for all who would aspire to top management.
These lessons have not changed in the 11 years since it was written and are fundamental enough not to change for several more decades. Because the core concepts repeal pieces of myth like company loyalty, gamesmanship and mentors, the clear writing reveals a different kind of "how to" and a good amount of "don't bother to's" as well.
I can truthfully say that if you want an insider look into the mind of a CEO, no matter what your current occupation or management tier, you will come away with insight and inspiration, if not a course to set-- on your own way straight to the top. Good hunting.

The ideal book of I Ching for guidance with relationship matters.Review Date: 2006-01-28
This book shows how I Ching can help with relationships/matters of the heart and in detail too. This is a very accurate book.
I'm amazed at the guidance I'm getting from this book.
Each hexagram is covered in great detail.About 4 pages to each one.Thats a good thing.(The author's book "Total I Ching" has 4-6 long pages).
This is the first and only book I found on I Ching that specifically caters to relationships and its a great book.
There are similarities between this book and the author's book,"Total I Ching" but this one focuses on relationships matters but "Total I Ching" covers other matters and both are indepth books.
If you have other books by this author you might like this book too.
I also recommend these books:
1)I Ching:a new interpretation for modern times.By Sam Reifler.
2)Practical guidance to the I Ching.By Kim-Anh Lim.
Relationship IChing vs Lovers IChing, same or different?Review Date: 2005-11-27
Stephen Karcher's I Ching translation (the big one) has supplanted other versions I have used in my (since 1967) history of using the I Ching for my life. One thing to notice is he extracts the reality whivhis the positivism out of the time. And he links you to the original Chinese. This helps me to see when one hexagram is using the same concept, the same word, as another hexagram.
I have a question. Are these books the same? What is the difference? I haven't seen the black fuzzy one for years.(Lover's I Ching, Hardcover. PUBLISHERS: it should come in a box. imho)
To add to the editorial review of this one, he has had some people who work with relationships add interesting material to this book (Symbols of Love), to help you think through the issues of the time, pictured in the hexagram and echoed by what you cast.

I have to go over this book every year and a half, because for some reason, over lengthy periods of time, my reading slows down. I then have to focus on picking up my reading speed. It works, and it's easier to speed read than to read in the slow, time consuming, inner voice, traditional way.
