Some ancient scrolls are proving that some vikings lived in the Kinetic City 500 years before Colombus discovered America. But some citizens including J. Angstrong Sneer think that the City Scrolls are fakes. So the super crew try to discover the truth about the scrools and...oops, I can`t tell you what is going up next. If you are doing a book report, I recommend you to choose this book. I also recommend this book for people who love adventure and detective books.

I read this book because Oprah truly inspires me and this book is a great read. She was not handed everything in her younger years and she overcame so much to get to be where she is now, and America is so lucky to have her!

Oprah was a young Afican American girl who was raised by her grandmother instead of her own parents. Oprah lived with her grandmother of her childhood until some teenage years. Oprah went to school where it was pretty much all American girls who looked at her different because of her color. Oprah helped her grandma everyday when getting home from school by delivering water around the town. Her grandma bought her a pair of shoes and she was only allowed to wear them while going to school and take them off as soon as she got home, she wore her hair either in a bun or in braids. when going to high school everything was different for her because she was smart and knew what she was going to do for living. She wasn't able to forgive her mother for what she had done to her.
I enjoyed this novel because I got to know more about Oprah's life.
I disliked the way she was treated by her mother and people at school.

If there are people who know less about William Blake than I did, I have not met them yet. However, I'm a bit more informed now, thanks to Warner's very insightful and intense novel, written primarily in the voice of Wm.'s wife, Kate. I found myself thinking as I read this that Janet Warner may have been channeling Kate Blake, I felt that much in the presence of this wonderful, caring and intelligent woman. It was such a perfect way (for me, anyway) to begin a study of Blake, who is such a towering and often obscure figure, and one so very singular as to make me nervous at times. But Kate's there, mob cap on her head, running the press beside William, considering finances when William can't be bothered. In Warner's telling, theirs seems a marriage of Air and Earth.

I was saddened to learn that Janet Warner passed away last year, but was comforted at the thought of her being able to enjoy the satisfaction of having produced this fine and original work, in addition to all her other accomplishments. It is a wonderful book, she got what feels like just the right tone for Kate, and wove in all the things large and small, about her life and his, and theirs together. I am so glad I found this book.

A different take on William Blake

The poet-prophet Blake casts such an intense blaze, it's all too easy to forget his wife Catherine, who stood beside him, supported & aided in his work, and provided a home & haven for his visions. This fine novel rectifies that omission, letting Catherine tell her own story in warm, sympathetic, but clear-eyed prose. She gives us a wonderfully detailed, day-by-day look at the world Blake moved in -- its politics, its fads, its intrigues. And she also makes us realize that being the wife of such a man is often no easy task! Yes, Blake was a truly remarkable figure ... but Catherine was no less remarkable, as the reader will certainly come to agree. For those who love Blake's work, it's a welcome addition to the Blake bookshelf. But even for those who know nothing about him, it's both an introduction to the man & an excellent novel about a unique marriage in its own right. Well worth seeking out!

This book is well organized and easy to use as a reference. Each chapter has a different author. The topics are varied and well presented. The text is easy to read. The chapters on the body approaches to working with panic were the most interesting for me. I also would point out that after some chapters a listing called "end notes" is included whch provides the reader with sources of further information, and in a few instances a way to contact the author of a given article.

This was the first romance novel I ever read. I read this as a teenager and have read it many times in the years since. It is an epic tale set in the Civil War era that follows a family through the good and bad times of several generations. The characters are well-developed and deep and the story flows well through the very end of the book.

My mom lent me her copy of this book when I first read it and her copy was about as battered and worn as they come. The cover was made of contact paper and there was a page missing. This is her very favorite romance novel, though, so I bought a hard cover copy of this book for her for Christmas and she was absolutely thrilled. It's nice to be able to find the old favorites!

I really enjoyed this book, a nice change from the usual
romance type novel... The characters seemed more human, and
authentic. This is a 479 page book that covers the life span of
several generations of a family. Set in pre and post civil war
times, we see the hardships and the courage of people of that
time period. Also the bravery of one woman who stands up
for what she believes in. There is a lot of sorrow, but in the
end you have a good feeling. It deals with the subject of
slavery, pro and con.......as viewed in the time period
mentioned.

The Sequel to this book, Is.... "Desire and Dreams of Glory...

For the subject matter this is a wonderfully interesting and informative book. I gained a much better understanding of the world's religious and political beliefs and enjoyed the book very much. The stories the author tells of his traveling adventures and observations are entertaining and intriguing. I would recommend this book without reservation whether or not the reader is religious.

Incredible wealth of exercises. 1/2 the price of the video!

Review Date: 2004-03-06
First of all, I'm not a die-hard Jaco fan. Hell, he isn't even in my personal top 10 list. So my reason for giving this 5 stars is not "because it's Jaco"; it's because this package contains a WEALTH of bass knowledge and exercises designed for the non-beginner, jam packed into a 36 page book and single CD.

The contents of this book/CD package were directly taken from the video edition of the same title. But the book/CD stands alone as a separate product; you DO NOT need the video to make sense of it. In fact after I bought this, it was still years before I got to see the video.

The book starts off with a quick review of the scales and modes, and the rest consists of transcriptions of all the exercises and solo pieces found on the CD. One thing that sets some of these excercises apart from other books is that they're fun and musical, not boring and mechanical. You may have learned all your scales and modes before, but these exercises have you practicing and playing them in new ways and in new position. Jaco also covers the use of chords, harmonics, playing in odd beat divisions, and plays a few solo songs that really put it all together with groove. All of the exercises are GREAT for helping you think-out-side-the-box.

Aside from the exercises, the CD also contains some of the band-performed music found on the video and interview clips. Jaco talks about subjects like the importance of reading sheet music (a good reason why this book contains no tablature), how he became a bass player, and playing different musical styles.

Considering this book/CD set has pretty much everything from the video and costs half as much, I'd actually recommend this product over the video itself.

Insight into Jaco's Technique from the man himself!

This instructional book gives many exercises from Jaco himself. It has a cd that comes with it that helps out. It covers harmonics (has a chart) and ways to improve your left hand speed, precision, and clarity. The book itself is clear enough that you can use it to teach yourself. Though the book goes with the video (of the same name) so it's good to get both. Also, on the cd is a jam session with jaco and an interview. All in all it's a great value and no jaco collection is complete without it.

My Personal Review for "My Own Story"

I was lucky to have found the story, "Pavarotti: My Own Story" by Luciano Pavarotti himself. In an empty world since his passing, his booming personality and wonderful character fills this book with not only who the man was as a young child, but how gifted he was and how success never changed the inner man.

He loved his fans, his listeners, and until he died--he sang for them. Very seldom without a following of friends and co-singers surrounding him, he was a generous and kind individual, which echoes in every page of his book.

This is the book to read, if you truly want to understand Luciano himself. Other books are out there, but with other opinions, stories, hate-filled sarcasm, or untruths. We all have our opinion, but what better way to understand who he really was--than from his own lips.

This is a man who was loved passionately by the entire world, and honoring him by purchasing the book will not only benefit you but his memory.

Understanding His Amazing Persona

The whole world mourned over Luciano Pavarotti's death. It wasn't until then I read his book.

Though not a true autobiography in that many chapters are recollections and thoughts written by the tenor's friends and colleagues, really adds more depth into the the life of Mr. Pavarotti. It is extremly interesting to read the collections of some of his closest friends including his wife Adua and childhood friend and soprano Mirella Freni, among many others.

It covers his frustrating, early struggle with La Scala who initially wanted him only as an understudy.

Capturing many aspects of Pavarotti's life including his passion for painting and food, This is a delightful testimony of this very remarkable personality.

I recommend this strongly to his fans, to opera fans and even to people who like biographies.

I began playing guitar in the early seventies, when the hippie generation had helped to bring folk music to the forefront of the popular music scene. The major forces behind the success of folk music at that time -- finally reaching all across America on the radio waves -- were Peter, Paul and Mary. They sang songs that they loved, and became part of our lives; these are the songs you will find in this book. The ones you remember, half-hummed snatches of tunes for every mood and moment. The book features both piano and guitar accompaniment. If I were to find fault with the book, it would be that there were still so many songs I wanted which were not included here, and that it did not have a spiral binding, and so my first copy split and finally needed to be replaced after many well-loved years. This book is the right place to start as you begin learning the best songs to know in the folk tradition.
