I bought several landlord's rights books and found that this book was really helpful and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book if you're a landlord in need of legal advice to protect your property.

This is a major component of my landlord/property manager library. I was not surprised to find, when I purchased this recent updated edition, that it is even better! (I noticed more excerpts of code.) Nolo Press has a deserved reputation for offering excellent legal guides for the lay person

Battling the worst man in the world

In this 11th November Man thriller, Bill Granger has pulled out all the stops. When R Section agent Deveroux's estranged girlfriend, Rita Macklin is gunned down by a sniper's bullet and badly wounded and Deveroux himself is nearly killed in a deadly bomb explosion, it would appear that Henry McGee, the self-proclaimed "worst man in the world" had finally won.
Henry McGee is evil incarnate. His plan to blackmail a rich airline executive while at the same time framing the IRA for a terrorist bombing and various murders and other terrorist acts in Ireland with the help of female co-conspirator Marie Dreisler has Henry McGee at the peak of his evil genious.
As the recovering Rita Macklin falls into the clutches of an over-medicating Quack-Psychiatrist, it is up tyo Deveroux to rescue her and try to start their life anew. That would be great but there is just one problem, the spectre of Henry McGee.
Still feeling the effects from his many injuries from the bomb blast that nearly killed him, Deveroux sets out after McGee and attempts to stop and kill him. With many interesting plot twists and a brilliant finale, this quick read is definitely in the top 3 of the classic November Man/Deveroux series.

Since Amazon hasn't posted an editorial review for this book, here's the description from the back of the book to help you decide if this book is for you: "The armistice has been all but signed. The Cold War is over. The world has no further use for spies. Or so it would seem. Fortunately, Devereaux -- the spy the call November -- knows better. Even now, he finds himself and his implacable nemesis locked in a deadly battle. The backdrop is a secret war of terrorism waged by an insidious mastermind combining the bloodiest back-alley tactics of Irish republicanism with the sleek financial machinations of Wall Street. The stakes are deeply personal, for an assassin has struck at Rita Macklin, the journalist who loves the November Man. Now Devereaux has but a single goal: kill Henry McGee, before he can strike again." Very taut suspense thriller.

A must read for anyone with the slightest thought of leaving...

A lawyer suggested this book the same day she told me I could not afford to leave....yet. It is the one single item that best helped me through the worst time of my life. I never thought about having a safe place to go, nor would I need one since I was the one leaving.....then the world fell in and I had to vacate immediately. Without having planned for 'the non-existant emergency' I would have been lost. I read chapters that I did not consider applied to me since as I would not be new to the work force and my children were 'older,' and found bits and pieces of info that I applied to situations they probably were not intended.

I am an avid reader of many types of books and I consider this the one book that most affected my life (I don't count the Bible....it's a given). Please read this book if you struggle in a difficult relationship. This book will help you through the struggle.

This is a great book, with lots of "REAL-LIFE" advice. And let's face it, there's lots advice given to us by friends who mean well, and REAL advice given by those who have been there. This book will help you, even if you choose NOT to leave. It deals with the real world as it is, and what a woman needs to think about most during a time she where she may not feel up to thinking. Where are you going to leave to? How are you going to support yourself, your children? This books helps you deal with the real nitty-gritty hard questions.

Great Retelling of a Difficult Story

Review Date: 2008-08-01
The "heroes" of the book of Judges aren't always the most stellar of characters and sometimes it is difficult to communicate their story to children in a way that captures both their strength and their weakness. With their Heroes of Promise series, the Miller Brothers have embraced these flawed characters and used their weakness to teach children about the strength of God and the power of faith in Him. They've taken these difficult stories (the story of Gideon in "Gid the Kid" and the story of Samson with "10 Gallon Sam") and really captured and communicated the principles Scripture is teaching.
Our family loved "Gid the Kid" (my 3 year old daughter had us read it over and over again) but I must say that the Millers raised the bar with "10 Gallon Sam." The illustrations are even more crisp and refined, the poetic narrative flows smoothly along, and the story ends with our focus pointed to the God who gives great gifts, not simply a man to whom the gifts were given (where a lot of telling of the Samson story focuses). The book also includes a bible study parents can do with their kids, with the Millers directing their readers to the true source of their inspiration.
Great job guys! Keep the tales from Promise coming!

This is the second in the series and is a really awesome book. It is a retelling of the story of Samson set in the old west. My kids really love this book and I do to. It is kind of like the Veggie Tales series which retells Bible stories but allo f this series is set in the old west. The books have a great message that everyone needs to hear. The illustrations are also top notch. The pictures also have a little bee or two hidden in each picture that my little boys just love to try and find. Also at the back it tells you how to make your own 10 gallon hat which is a great way to get your kids even more involved in the story. I expect great things from the Miller brothers and cant wait to see what else they release.

It's Taubman vs Carella

What's with this guy? Why doesn't he just go do his business in another town and leave the guys of the 87th alone? Why doesn't he leave Steve Carella alone?

As with all of McBain's books there are three stories going on simultaneously. The first is related to a group of burglaries of apartments where the tenants are on vacation. The apartments are ransacked and a kitten is left by the (cat) burglar. None of the apartments' doors have been jimmied or picked, so how does he get in?

The second mystery is a murder. A man is found nailed to the wall in an abandoned building. The only clue, a left sneaker size 12, and the remains of a fire.

The third and main story is that of the "Deaf Man". He mails clues to the 87th and calls them on the phone. The clues point to a robbery at a bank, which the Deaf Man says Steve Carella will help him with. Needless to say that the Deaf Man is to smart for himself and gives Steve one clue too many. Great Fun.

The deaf man is back. He is sending the 87th precinct clues to his nextcrime. Who can figure them out before the crime is committed?

In the meantime Kling is working on a string of burglaries. Carella is working on finding who killed a man and nailed him to a wall. All things come together at the end but it makes for good reading to get there. The deaf man is a thorn in the side of the 87th. Will he be captured this time? McBain again weaves all the pople into a very good mystery book. It is a quick read and will hold your attention.

If you've read Rose Kennedy's autobiography you'll definately want to read this too for another look. This is written by a former secretary of Rose's starting around 1974 (just after her autobiography was written). It's both interesting and comical.

For instance I was shocked to read the state of their Palm Beach Florida house had fallen into - it sounds like a disaster as no one seemed to have the responsiblity to maintain it (shredded curtains, everything old and dirty etc) but this is not how one thinks the Kennedy's live particularly Rose. And with only one overworked cook/maid/allaround at each home (Maine & Florida) but all the Kennedy children visiting and making demands just as if there was still the staff that there probably had been when they were growing up.

Also I was surprised at some of the Kennedy children & families behavior. For instance the author mentions when she introduced herself to Sargent Shriver (Eunice Kennedy's husband and father to Maria Shriver) as Rose's new secretary, he replied to her, laadeedaa, rather unpleasantly.

It's quick and easy reading and seems want to present things in a fair manner. It's very entertaining and one sees that even with all that money and power it doesn't mean that your life will be well ordered and just how you like it, like you think it would be if you had it all.

I wish that they still printed this book

"Against a rich backcloth of chivalry, romance, treachery and plague in Medieval England is set the magnificent saga of the Percy family who planted the seeds which grew into the Wars of the Roses.

From the war-torn Scottish border to the glitter and intrigue of London, the first Earl of Northumberland is drawn inextricably towards a violent destiny."

This is a wonderful trilogy about the Percy family. Principally, Harry Percy-the confidant of kings and eventual maker and breaker of kings, and his defiant love for the beautifual Margaret Neville. A virtual page-turner of the highest quality! Highly recommended, don't miss this trilogy!

Live! Don't Diet! contains RECOGNIZABLE and familiar dishes -- a real lifesaver if you're attempting to make lifestyle changes and have children in the house. Recipes are generally fast & easy to follow with non-exotic ingredients you're bound to have in your low-fat kitchen. For those just making the switch to a low-fat diet, this is the way to go. I have a dozen or so LF cookbooks, and this is always the FIRST I recommend to folks moving to Low-Fat eating.

Wonderful recipes--there's no way these are lowfat!

I purchased this book 6/18/98 and began reading and following the guidelines along with experimenting with several of these recipes. My entire family is now eating low-fat (without their knowledge!) and loving it!! My goal is to lose a total of 51 pounds, and as of 8/25/98 I have lost 29 pounds (without exercise!-- I can only imagine if I had stuck with my exercise program!). Already I feel much better, and I would like to give most of the credit to this great book. I am anxious to purchase the follow-up book (Exceed the Feed Limit) but am unable to make this purchase at this time. If you're looking for low-fat recipes that don't taste "low-fat", then this is definitely the book for you. Like Shrimp Scampi? My favorite--try this recipe, you'll never miss the fat. I've prepared entire meals for small dinner parties using recipes out of this book with more positive comments on each dish than I've ever received before -- I never told them that they were eating a healty, low-fat meal until after the dishes were put away! This book has taught me a new way of living, it's not just a "DIEt". I want to thank Vicki for putting her recipes in print. Good luck to everyone who picks up up a copy of this book and has any amount of success with it. Happy, healty eating! Tammy L.

An excellent book about people you can really grow to like. By the end of the book, I felt I knew Lizzie and her kids and the rest of the characters, and I cared about what happened to them. Granted, there were times when I wanted to tell her to leave that *(@&$( husband of hers but the story was so gently told that I could understand why she did what she did.

A great novel set during the turbulant years of WW2

Lizzie had always been a quiet prim girl, but when she meets Bobby she gets more than she bargains for, for Bobby lives only for the dog and horse racing. Never the less, Lizzie stands by her man as WW2 erupts all around her in the back streets of London. Lizzie has some tough times and tougher decisions ahead of her, especially when her sister dumps her kids on the kindly Lizzie, and it's a long time before her and her beloved Bobby can settle down to a peacefull life of thier own. A great book full of the community spirit which helped Londoners through the terrible time of the Blitz.
