When I was in direct sales. The section on recruiting is excellent. In fact, I would give this book to new recruits. Glad I got the chance to recommend it to a couple of friends who are in direct sales.

With the humor that Diane has tossed in about her own life experiences; it makes this book an easy read, that I have no doubt will make all of my co-workers thrilled to get for Christmas!
I haven't worked in direct sales, but I have worked as a manager in retail for several years. This book pin-points everything that I wish my associates, and those working above me, could grasp and understand. It takes complex ideas and breaks it down so simply, it makes sales strategies seem as though they should be common sense.

This book is great!

This book floored me! It's a practical guide to sales that doesn't put me to sleep. I heartily recommend it for anyone who wants to market via direct sales.

10 reads and still loving it

I have read this book at least 10 times since I originally purchased it in 1989. Every time I read it, I can't put it down until the book is finished. Yes, several sleepness nights. As an anniversary present to my husband one year, I sold my entire romance novel collection in trade for book credits for his SciFi habit. I couldn't take it, after 3 years I had to track down the book and buy a used copy. I am so happy I did.

This is by far my favorite Diana Palmer (a.k.a. Susan Kyle) book. Ms. Palmer seems to always have "cigarette-adicted heroes", which bothers me, but in this read it's pretty easy to ignore.

Love it, and keep on loving it!

Gaby Cane had always been a bit afraid of Bowie McCayde. When Gaby was fifteen and shaken by tragedy, Bowie's parents had taken her in; yet even on their sprawling Arizona ranch, she had sensed his simmering resentment. Now, a successful journalist, she could hold her own with any man--professionally. And the dark shadows of her past seemed far behind her. Then Bowie came back into her life: handsome, rich, and threateningly sexy. He said he needed her help to save the ranch. Reluctantly, Gaby agreed to retun, never dreaming Bowie would be there too. And when he pinned her up against the rough wood of a stable wall, his lips hard and demanding upon hers, she never dreamed his touch would awaken a hunger she couldn't deny. Suddenly, for the first time in her life, she wanted more from a man. But "more" meant that Bowie might find out about the little girl she once was. And Gaby didn't dare risk that. Not for anything.

Fired up about FIRED

To use the tag line of this production "Rejection has never been so hilarious!" is so true. No truer words are spoken

When Annabelle Gurwitch was fired from a Woody Allen Play, she gathered friend's & coworkers, and got essays of being fired. This collection is a laugh riot. If you have not seen this show performed or the DVD, this is a private audio for you and anyone who may be listening with you.

This CD also has former NPR columnist Tsing Loh's "The F that could" with bleeps . . . I wished there was an un-bleeped version, I want to hear it. You know even with all the BLEEPS, you will laugh, string and long, at this audio essay of censorship

There are a few weak stories in this CD, but they are short (THANK GOD) and does not take away from the magical night where to be FIRED is king!

The true stories of over a dozen different actor's experiences of being fired
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-14
Fired is a full cast audiobook of a nonfiction play - the true stories of over a dozen different actor's experiences of being fired, some from acting jobs, some from summer jobs they worked as a teenager, and some who worked jobs so horrible that getting fired would have been a relief. Each tale, told in the voice and words of the actor who experienced it, is a vivacious, witty, often darkly ironic look at the selfishness and foolishness of the working world in general and Hollywood's working world in particular. From Annabelle's crushing disappointment in having her idol Woody Allen "ruin my Woody Allen experience" by calling her "retarded" before dismissing her from his "uninspired, as critics would later say" production, to Sandra Tsing Loh's extremely unlikely salvation due to a Janet Jackson's naked breast on TV (Ms. Loh just happened to be fired for obscenity on the radio shortly before Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction), to Jim Turner's mind-numbing experience with a manager who would give endless speeches that were nothing but the same platitude over and over, Fired is the perfect way to forget one's own troubles by listening to (and laughing at) the troubles of others. Highly recommended.

This tape was suggested to me by a coworker, and what a gift it has been! Combining this with my normal migraine routine significantly, actually dramatically, reduces the duration and intensity of my migraines. It also works wonders for those nasty tension headsches by easing my muscle tension. For the price it can't be beat, I would definately suggest it to anyone who wants to ease their pain.

Excellent tape

By far Belleruth's tapes are the best in applying guided imagery to health and healing. Her tapes inspire as they help you focus your mind on healing your body. Highly recommended!

Five Stars: He brings you to the stars.

Poets use the stars as exemplars of eternal beauty and guidance.

Dickson shows us one way to understand this. The hero *becomes* his space fighter and (accompanied by a psychologist/sociologist) travels through contested space to find beings of pure thought (or energy). In the end, using his new knowledge of himself, his companion and the various creations he meets, our hero finds a way to end war and allow the world (the Earth, Terra) to continue growing and expanding, as the hero and heroine do walking off into the ... sunset together. Great, classic piece.

"Intelligence" Or Merely "Persistence" ?
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-09-12
I am a totally ordinary guy, and I found that I was able to solve all of the games, puzzles and questions presented in this interesting little book. All it required was some application, thought and tenacity. For instance, when presented with a series of apparently random pictures and given a choice from among four of which image should appear next, all it took was a few minutes of thought and avoidance of the temptation to become frustrated. I suddenly saw that the given figures were a person's right eye, a left foot, a right hand, a left ear.... so it didn't really take any sort of genius to determine that the next item would be a "right" something. Desire and persistence are the keys, every time.

About the time I read this book, I met a guy who was extremely proud of being a Mensa member, and he too had solved everything in this Games book. But he was lazy as a red brick, and worked as a machinist on a graveyard shift. Right, Mensa.

Fixx's "Games" is charming and educational, too!

Jim Fixx had a way about him that was quite appealing--modest, humorous, highly intelligent himself and gifted with "a way with words".

"GAMES" is a classic in its field.

The recent new edition has it in print for 30 years.

It's the sort of book I like to recommend to friends by saying, "If you don't like "Games", I'LL give you your money back."

PS: Memorize a bit and play games with your children, parents and friends. (Also great material for bar bets!)

Will be a classic one day! Awesome arrangements by the master himself. This is a must have for an Gershwin lover who plays piano. All of the pieces are moderately advanced but short in length. Certainly worth adding to your music library.

A richly arranged collection
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-17
As George Gershwin writes in the introduction, "Sheet music, as ordinarily printed for mass sales, is arranged with an eye to simplicity." In this collection of 18 Gershwin songs, which includes Fascinating Rhythm, Somebody Loves Me, Strike Up the Band, and I Got Rhythm, he presents his music in a way that reflects his "desire for complication and variety that every composer feels when he manipulates the same material over and over again."

Though not for the beginner, these pieces will reward the more advanced pianists who love the Gershwin style. He even supplies a hint about how to play them - keep your foot off the sustaining pedal. American popular music (in the early twentieth century, at least) "asks for staccato effects, for almost a stenciled style."

If you've been at the piano for a few years and love his music, you'll enjoy this collection. If you prefer simpler arrangements with lyrics, try "50 Gershwin Classics," also available through Amazon.

P.S. A note to sheet music publishers: Why not include a few sample pages so web users can judge for themselves whether the arrangements are appealing?
