I'm sure back in 1976 Mary Ellen might not have been thinking Green. Or maybe she was? But,this book is wonderful! I've had it since the early 1980s and recently dug it back out of my cookbook drawer. I had forgotten all the simple tips and helps! The best thing is THEY WORK! Everything from Antiquing to Zippers is in this book. Using household items such as baking soda, vinegar, salt, and many other things found right in our kitchens. I'm getting one for my daughter to have and this won't be put back in the drawer anytime soon!

It' Great! It helped me alot!!

Scott Joplin best of Ragtime

This is an excellent collection of Scott's waltz's, marches and most of his rag's. For more selections of his rag's I suggest the book Scott Joplin's Complete Piano Rags. It is avaliable from Amazon also. Both of these books will give the pianist a very good selection of his songs to play at an intermediate to advanced level. Still missing A Real Slow Drag though. If you are a ragtime enthusiast check out the Ragtime festival in Sedalia Missouri around the first of June each year. It is excellent.

This is an excellent and well written book of Scott's rags, waltz's and marches. It has more of the marches and waltz's than the other book I highly recommend (Complete Piano Rags) that has more of the Rag's such as two or my favorites the Pineapple Rag and the Paragon Rag. Both of these books can be oredered through Amazon.

My favorite Aunt gave me the 1974 version of this book when I was a kid. I love short stories and this book is full of them.
I upgraded to the 1994 version (the latest I could find). It had everything plus many more modern criminals such as Berkowitz, Bundy, Dahmer, and Gacy.

a must read for the crime enthusiast

This book is a must read for any person who is seriously interested in the history of crime in our country. This book covers not only the most notorious criminals, but also hits on many other less-well-known criminals who really do prove that crime does not pay. Very well written and researched !!

A Superb State-by-State Tour of America in the 1980's!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-31
Have you ever wanted to travel to all fifty states? Unless you're wealthy (or have plenty of opportunities to travel) this marvelous book will allow you to do so without leaving the comfort of your favorite armchair! Inspired by John Gunther's classic 1947 work, "Inside America", the "Book of America"'s two authors personally traveled to all fifty states in the late seventies and early eighties, interviewed and absorbed as much information and experiences as they could, and then produced this book. The result is a unique and insightful look at America in the eighties (and much of the information they provide is still relevant today). Yet this book is far more than a simple travelogue or list of facts. The authors cover - often in surprising detail - virtually every facet of life in all fifty states. The politics, regional differences, history, culture, geography, scenic spots, and more of every state are discussed. To cite just one example (or one state) - have you ever wanted a "bird's eye" tour of New York City's five boroughs? Then it's all here (all the ethnic groups, neighborhoods, the city's nightlife, etc.)- but so is a tour of Long Island's suburbs, the dairy country of upstate New York, the "Finger Lakes" region, the majestic Adirondack Mountains of the upstate region, and almost everything you'd need to know about the Empire State's people and places. You'll learn that New York City nearly always votes for Democrats, while the "upstate" farmers and suburbs vote Republican. Yet none of this ever gets boring, as the authors are witty and aren't afraid to poke holes or skewer sacred cows along the way: "Texas, that braggart of American states...etc." One of the author's interesting discoveries is that America's regional differences are still strong, despite the mobility of the American people (for proof of that, just look at the recent presidential election)! To be sure, some of their info is now dated, such as when they discuss the phenomenal popularity of the TV series "Dallas" overseas (that, of course, is in the chapter on Texas). But overall this is still a superb, one-of-a-kind look at America that you won't find anywhere else.

Outstanding look at U.S. When does the update come out?!

Just think, at any one space in time, inside your brain, 15 billion interactions are going on right now - thinking, feeling, sensing, caring, comparing, judging, deciding . . . I found this book to be very deep and comprehensive - certainly fascinating in that I will never look at the brain the same way again. This one is a real "keeper", to be shared with anyone that may be interested in this subject.

Explore the brain with neurologist Restak as a basis of our emotional and mental capacities, as it affects language, health, and personality. Explore it as...The Last Frontier in man's understanding of life itself.

Can we make a robot that can really think?
Can we discover how to turn off pain?
Can we retard the effects of age on the mind?
Can we eliminate some diseases by correcting malfunctions in the brain?
Restak, even more sharply than Sagan, puts into provocative focus what has been learned by psychologists, biologists and other scientists...he makes clear the true difference between computer 'thinking' and human thought: the mystery which some call soul.

Gripping story about cops and killers.

There's good news and bad news. The good news is that Ed Dee's newest novel is as thrilling as his first two( "14 Peck Slip" and "Little Boy Blue." The bad news is that that's all there is:we are going to have to wait for publication of his next novel. "Bronx Angel" takes you into the steaming tenements of the Bronx and into the sordid social clubs of sexual deviates, where you meet guys who wannabe gals, and gals who put out for crooked cops for a quick hit or a quick buck. If you're from New York, you'll love "Bronx Angel." If you are from elsewhere and want to learn about the seamy side of the city read Dee's books and take the tour from the Fulton fish market to the Bronx zoo. You don't get this by riding the Circle Line around Manhattan.

The author through Detectives Ryan and Gregory keeps the reader on the edge of his seat as the story unfolds with the many twists and turns into an indepth investigation of New York City crime. You can feel the emotions of the participants and the lurking danger. The good and evil tug and pull on the fibers of society. Anyone entering law enforcement should read this work. It is very apparent to the reader that the author is highly intelligent and handles the real world of New York City with admirable ability. This book stimulates your gray matter and you feel that you are riding along with Detectives Ryan and Gregory. I read this genre and DEE impresses this reader with his vast knowledge of the world of COPS and his ability to fit the bits and pieces together into a story that will hold you breathless. I ENJOYED this story for it is from the REAL world. Read it. You'll love it.
