Absolutely first-rate, performance-quality jazz guitar. There is TAB here, despite what other reviews say - but only the solos are TAB'd; you'll still have to learn how to read music and chord charts to get through the chord-melody sections. However, this learning is extremely important and well worth the effort. The CD has the solos recorded on the left channel, rhythm section on the right, so just turn your stereo balance for easy accompaniment. Highly recommended.

The recordings are clean and beautiful .
Each song is presented twice : firstly the ordinary fake book presentation , then (much expanded ) a full transcription of Mr.Coates complete rhythm/chord-melody guitar 'take' on the tune . This followed by a transcription of the solo .
Since the playing doesn't stray too far from the 'original' fake book , its perfect for the student seeking to understand the 'how ' of working from fakebooks . There is no tab , but there are very many chord diagrams ( which really do match the scored chord ) . Layout and print quality are excellent .There are one or two very tastey photos of Benedetto guitars , here and there . Jimmy Haslip's basslines keep it simple , but without becomming dull : its a pleasure listening to the rhythm section on this CD . Better playing and recording than many commmercial releases !

Superbly written, exciting depiction of a magical yet increasingly scientific world. The first of a wonderful series, this book entices you to become part of the experiences of the war in Strand. The search for unicorns brings not only a possible weapon to the magical kingdoms, but also hope for the lone humans on the planet. The unicorns have much to teach the humans, but first their lives must be saved. Now the humans only have to convince the unicorns to help them.

The book was difficult to put down, in fact I found myself flying through it to continue on with the series. Keep in mind, that you too will soon have the entire series on your bookshelf so you can read the adventures again and a again.

This is one of the best book I've read and I would definately recommend it. The ending is very surprising and original - not what you expect. Too bad this book cannot be brought in the UK though. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Campbell again shows himself to be a master of mood and atmosphere with a collection of tales of a wide variety of setting and tone. Studied and effective, understated horror. In fact, he accomplishes better than horror (revulsion at something that has happened) and instead achieves terror (fear of something that *may* happen), which is Stephen King's stated highest goal. Thouroughly recommended.

This book once again proves that Campbell is the master

Ramsey Campbell is the scariest writer of fiction there is. This collection of short stories once again proves that well known fact. A student from the H.P. Lovecraft school of horror, campbell takes the reader on a phsycological journey through the most sacred and untouched realms of our minds, the realm of fear. If you read one book of horror short stories this should be it, because once you've had a taste of campbell you're hooked.

No one chills more with less than Campbell does.

When it comes to chilling examinations of the decaying mind, no one does it better than Ramsey Campbell. Whether the decay is literal (i.e. his mad killer stories) or symbolic (the supernatural stuff), no other writer can summon of the level of dread, isolation, and despair that Campbell can. Waking Nightmares gathers together stories from Campbell's early years (i.e. Jack In The Box) as well as his more recent work. Although some of the stories are a tad predictable (especially if you have read a great deal of Campbell's work), each is powerful in its own quiet way. I can't think of a better way to give yourself the heebie-jeebies than by reading anything by Ramsey Campbell. Highest recommendation.

I purchased this book in November 2004. With a limited printing of only 1500, I am surprised to find that the book is still for sale on their website. This book is as fun as the band is. The cover is colorful. When you take the paper cover off, the book is white with red splatter all over it.

This is basically a book of images with commentary. You'll find out some interesting facts, such as the background for "The Spiderbite Song", what happens behind the scenes of an up-and-coming band, and tons of backstage pictures. The dialogue between Wayne and Michelle is pretty cool, too.

The signature page in the front obviously adds authenticity and value. I, too, recommend snatching this up before they disappear. I bought the book and have stashed it away in my closet so that it may remain in pristine condition. 5 huge stars!

I'll make this short...this book is easily one of the greatest ever published on a rock and roll band. Exceptionally well-produced. Great photographs brilliantly reproduced. Brilliant layout. Quality construction of the book and its cover. Nice essays by various folks connected with the band. But the photos are the thing. As I understand it, this is a very limited run. Buy one before they go on ebay one day for $1000. Oh...don't forget that the band and the photographers sign your copy as well.

This book, while steep on Amazon.com, [...]. It comes in a fantastic hardcover case, as well as a stunning dustjacket... However, the star is the 180some pages of photographs detailing the Flaming Lips up-and-coming, rise to popularity, and today in about the best photo book I've ever seen.
The images, when not colorful or imaginative, are a gritty reminder of where the band came from - Oklahoma. These guys did not set out to be superstar rock icons; it was sort of an "accidental career," as they titled one of their CDs not too long ago. The commentary from the band and photographers makes the book read like a movie - plenty of pictures, but not a whole LOT of dialogue! The pictures do not grow old, though, and you tend to see something different every time you open the book.
The autographs at the beginning add to the book's value, however, if they ever do a reprint without the autographs or limited numbering, it would be the same book. [...]...and all your bad days will end.

This is an amazing, and true story of leadership, teamwork, and hard work. This single book represents the creation of a new classroom, one where the student is the main concern, not useless facts and instant recall memories. This book is a must read to any and all student or educatior who feels the modern day education system is lacking. Taylor Morris is a genius.

Morris had a spat with his wife and to punish her he insisted that she not pick him up from work. He would walk home, about 15 miles. In that brief walk he had an epiphany. The next day he asked his students which would teach them more, a semester in class or a semester walking. Unanimously they voted for walking. Morris rounded up some money and 18 months later took his class for a walk, from upstate New York to Nova Scotia.

Experimenting with various walking styles, supported by an old van for lunch and equipment transport, Morris and a dozen students, his wife and two of his kids took a trip out of New York state and into their minds.

If you liked Peter Jenkins or if you are just wondering what the US is all about, explore a small part of it with Morris and his class. You will read this awe inspiring book over and over again.

If you like to own some really cool prints of Bugs Bunny, Tweety, or just the old folks from the Warner Bros. Studio, this is the book! It goes through the history of the animation studio and its founders. Chuck Jones is similar to Walt Disney, he had his own crew of animation masters to create a whole new perspective of cartoon.
One disappointing about this book is that its published date is 1997. Sadly "The Iron Giant" (released 1999) and "Cats Don't Dance" (1997) did not make it to the book; two of the most successful WB animated feature film. However, it is still a book to own and look for inspiration.

It should be the Warner Brother Ltd. Ed. collectors' bible.

This book was well done and very appealing to the eye and informational to read. It gives the reader some good history of Warner Bros. cartoons and the rarely credited artists. Through-out the book there are pointers on how to draw various characters, but unfortunatly they are not as complete as one might have it. However, the overall is terrific.

"The Nine Lives of Catseye Gomez" was the first book of Simon Hawke that I read, and I was so amazed by the storyline and the writing that I went to every used bookstore I could find to try and get my hands on the entire series. "The Wizard of Whitechapel" is the second book in the series, following "The Wizard of 4th Street," and it is well worth your time if you enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, and/or creativeness. It had more of a horror twist in it that its predecessor, but it was just as good. In a conclusion which I'm sure is not necessary, get this book and all the others in the series, as well as some of his other works. You (probably) won't regret it.

Wow, this book is great. I have read a lot of fantasy books, but this one tops my list as one of the all time greats. The story was absolutely enthralling, the characters were some of the most lifelike characters I have ever read, if it weren't for the fact that I had to turn the page I would have thought them real. Cook did an excellent job at weaving a tale of high fantasy. I recommend this book to anyone out there who likes fantasy novels or if they think these novels are just toys of a bad imagination, then they should read this book, I believe it will change their perspective on how they view fantasy fiction books.

This book (known in Europe as 'The Women and the Warlords') is Hugh Cook's darkest and least 'heroic' novel presumably because the protagonist is female. He may be the only fantasy author who has confronted the probable 'reality' of a woman's life in the traditional fantasy environment and the result is a book which may be too drepessing for some readers. Despite this, it is a humourous and entertaining read which, although it lacks the polish and sheer inventiveness of the later books, well repays the effort of reading. In short, Hugh Cook has written better, but not many other authors have.

Detailed, harsh and very realistic

First of all, especially if you live in the USA, this book is MUCH better than it looks. I have seen a US edition which depicts the heroine as a youthful and voluptuous girl in what appears to be chain mail underwear. The edition I own simply has a snowy landscape on the cover, the only figures visible being clad appropriately for the weather.

This book has LOTS in it. There is the clash and death of cultures (focused on more than the military aspect), lots of detail in the characters and societies, gritty and unheroic events and plot, and best of all, distinctly different and most unheroic (in the Hollywood or normal fantasy novel sense) characters.

Yen Olass, the main female character, has had it tough. She most definately could not pass for the bikini babe on the US edition cover. She is stocky, middle aged, tough, and passes for a man for part of the novel. Her homeland has been destroyed, and she has been subjected to appalling treatment by the invading race.

Regret and ashes are a dominant theme.

There is lots more to say, but the book says it better. Read it, it really is good - fantasy, but without the dross you usually have to filter out. Hugh Cook's books showed what was wrong with some of my former favourite fantasy authors, and how much better the genre can be.

In a universe where the different cultures of Earth have expanded into deep space and kept their languages and traditions intact, some age-old conflicts also survive. When the Emperor of Yamato, the Japanese sector of settled space, embarks on a war of conquest with the Chinese and American sectors, it is in the old spirit of Bushido. Giant fleets of spaceships loaded with Samurai warriors armed with high-tech weapons and swords descend on target planets, and battles on a scale dwarfing those in Star Wars develop. With plenty of huge-scale action and cultural touchstones to intrigue and inform, this sadly out-of-print and never-yet finished series (which includes the paperback-only sequel Yamato 2: The Way of the Warrior in two volumes...Ken...PLEASE give us more!) is a must-have for "space-opera" and sci-fi fans.

I'm really surprised to see no other reviews for this book. I hate to think any horror fans out there missed it. YELLOW MOON is one of the weirdest and creepiest books to come along in a great while. (And I read every horror novel I can get my hands on.) Tunnels begin to appear out of nowhere in a small town like portals to another dimension. Several people, including a group of children wander into the tunnels and find themselves in what can only be described as the devil's playground, while the local citizens try to understand what's going on. Searls writing style is clear, suspenseful, blackly humorous, and serves the story very well. When I turned the last page I felt like I had just awakened from some kind of fever dream. If you enjoy horror fiction, do yourself a a favor and seek this book out.
