This story kind of reminds me of the realtionship I have with my own brother. In this book, there is an 11 year old girl named Ivy, and her older sister named Lacy. There lives became horrifying when they found out that their parents are going to get divorced. Their old friendship and bond broke.

Althogh Lacy seem to hate Ivy more than ever, Ivy still loved her sister and wished to get along very well once again. Lacy never got any nicer, because she was so furious at the thought of their parents getting divorced. One day, at a restaurant, Lacy announced that she wanted to get a divorce with Ivy. Ivy agreed but inside she was very hurt.

Lacy decided to live with her father while Ivy stayed with her father, and they would meet on the weekends. One weekend, Ivy lost her temper and they got into a horrible fight. Their punishment was to be stuck in one room together for a whole weekend. Eventually, they began to talk to eachother and told them how they felt when they were fighting.

They made a deal, to sacrifice something that really bothers eathother and they ended up getting along very well. Although their parent's relationship didnt end up that way, they got over it, and began to live their normal life again. Only if my brother and I got along like that...

Ivy, 11, and her sister Lacey, 15, have always gotten along fairly well. Ivy even thought they liked each other. But she's thinking that one over again. One night, out of the blue, Lacey tells her, "I hated it when you were born." Say what? Ivy acts cool, but Lacey's comment really hurt her. Why is Lacey being mean to her?

Everything else in her life is turning topsy-turvy, too. The same day that Lacey drops the bombshell, their parents have a big fight. Their mother, after giving their father the silent treatment for a whole week, finally decides to talk to him. Don't take that new job, she says, or get out of the house. He decides to get out of the house. And Lacey goes with him.

What's going on? Ivy is so sick of her parents fighting all the time that she doesn't care if they do get divorced. But will it mean that she can't be best friends with Susanna anymore? Ivy doesn't feel comfortable talking to Susanna about the way things are. What will Susanna think about Ivy's parents divorcing?

If parents can divorce, can't sisters? Lacey wants to, but their parents want the girls to settle their differences once and for all. Ivy asks them if they are going to shut her and Lacey up in a room until they come out all hugs and kisses. Never give your parents a bad idea...

What happens? Will their parents really do such an awful thing? There's a difference between garbage fights and compost fights. Which kind will Ivy and Lacey have?

This book was a great story, I just love american girl books! Sister Split is about a girl named Ivy, and her parents are getting a divorce. Ivy and her sister are shocked. So from there parents anger, they say that they are getting seperated too. Ivy's sister moves out with her father, and Ivy stays with her mother. But when each child visits each other, they do horrible but funny things to each other. Ivy's only comfort is her bunny and her best friend. If you enjoy a great story, and you are a girl 11-13 you should read it!! It was excellent!

I loved this book! It really described the lives bewteen sisters and there divorced parents. It seemed like a true story, about what goes on in the lives divorced kids trying to solve there problems about the parents. It is about a girl named Ivy and her sister Lacy who mostly got along intill Lacy told Ivy "she hated when she was born." Then there life gets awful when there parents decide to split up. They both start to hate each other, but sercetly Ivy still loves her sister. And doesn't want her to live with her father while she is with her mother. But luckly Ivy has her best friend and her rabbit to keep her company. But soon after a lot of arguing bewteen them they solve there differences. It is a great and easy to read. I like it. It was funny about the fights they had and also gave me a great lesson to try to love your sister even if you have differences. I recommend it to anyone mostly a girl though. Try It and I am sure you will like it because I sure did!!

Sister Wit by Jacqueline Jakes is one of the most spiritually uplifting devotions for women that I've read. Jakes is the sister of well-known author and speaker Bishop T. D. Jakes. This powerful devotional is Jakes' testimonial. At the request of her brother the idea for this book was born. Jakes shares her unique experiences of life with women. At age twenty Jakes suffered a life-threatening experience. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The road to recovery was long and difficult but Jakes held on to her faith for strength and courage.

Sister Wit is an inspiration to all women. Packed with Bible scriptures and quotes from ordinary people this book delivers positive messages. The devotionals are Jakes' secrets about her unique life experiences and the wisdom she gained. In one devotional she writes about "My Missed Opportunity." Shirley Caesar writes the quote that goes with the devotional. "I always had only one prayer: "Lord just crack the door a little and I'll kick it open all the way."

I found Sister Wit to be so real. The book was not preachy but inspirational and thought provoking. I recommend this book to all women who face everyday life struggles...

I am sure this book is about Worcester, Massachusetts. It is about what happens under the pavement of an old industrial town in New England, about the secrets of previous lives, about the separation of the rich and the poor, the established and the Bohemian in American society, mixed with faint memories of the German experience in the great War of generations past and about the persecution of Jews and artists now and then.

I love Jack O'Connell. Love his characters, setting (especially), and the strange way he tells a story. Read one and you will read them all. I know you will...if you like a quirky set of characters, a David Lynch way of presenting a story, you will love this. Take me to the Combat Zone where midgets, lesbians, and just about anyone you can imagine RULE!

It includes dwarfs, porno houses, strange photos, lesbian groups, unusual mail carriers, and God knows what. If you are a fan of Tom Robbins or William Kotzwinkle, you will love Jack O'Connell.

GREAT!! I give it 5 stars!! This book has great information about your child's development in any given week and how to play with her to help her develop. I love this book!! I am only on week 8 but the material has been consistently informative. I have recommended this book to my daughter's daycare and even offered to buy the book for them (I could not find the book locally or they would have had it this morning.). This book is easy to read and is well organized. It is very concise, which makes it very managable when you only have a few minutes to spare. Buy this book, you won't regret it.

Despite having very little romance this is a very enjoyable read for any fan of the Regency Romance genre. The author's style of writing reminds me of Georgette Heyer - the characters act and talk within the confines of the Regency period as created by the aforementioned authoress. It's not simply a bunch of 21st century characters placed in Regency England. The book is a pleasure to read. My apologies for not providing plot details other reviewer's have done a far better job than I could.

"Exile!" Julia was despondent. Her disapproving father was seding her to the family castle on the Cornish coast, far from the man she loved.

"Adventure!" her cousin Octavia rejoiced, when Julia invited her for a visit. Here she would enjoy picnics and boat rides and perhaps daring escapades, far from the cares and responsibilities of her father's household. But Octavia discovers that adventures can be dangerous as well as thrilling when she helps Julia smuggle her suitor into the castle. For what's a girl to do when she finds a den of real smugglers? And how can she heal her heart when the dashing gentleman she chooses to protect her chooses to court someone else?

A satisfying read, with great characters

Review Date: 2003-01-30
The romance aspect of this book is a bit slim, because most of the story involves intrigue about smugglers, and it isn't until the last few pages that the hero and heroine figure out they love each other. There are two other secondary romances--one between the heroine's cousin Julia and a political activist, and one between the housekeeper and a smuggler. By the way, in this book, the smugglers are neither bad, nor dangerous, and the main characters are actually cheering for the, which made for an interesting perspective. What made the book most enjoyable was the gradual revealing of the characters' personalities, the fun dialogue, and the playing out of the plot. I laughed out loud when the heroine, Octavia, accidentally becomes "foxed" by drinking spiked cider. There was humor and mystery in this novel, combined in an effective way. It isn't so much a "romance" novel as it is a novel with a bit of romance. A great light read to entertain for several hours. It is long enough to allow for good development of character and plot, but not weighty at all. Highly recommended! I wish the author would write more like this one.

I thought this book was quite enjoyable. Julia and Octavia are cousins, Julia being tall, rich, slender and beautiful while Octavia is plump, poor, and somewhat homely. But the two cousins have huge hearts and they are wonderful. Julia is ready to accept the marriage proposal of a wealthy and suitable caring, young man until she falls in love with Octavia's best friend, a poor young man with not much to offer but his love. Well, when Julia's parents find out how she feels, they forbid her to see him and send her off to stay at a house far away and they send Octavia with her. From there, the light romance starts as they run into smugglers and have an adventure of their own. All the while, Julia is striving to push away the feelings she has for her beloved but she is just too true to her heart. Octavia comes out of her shell and starts to be the charming young woman she has kept hidden. But soon, things will start to fall into place. I recommend this book as a great vacation read. It is quite unlike any book I think I have ever read and I loved every minute of it.

I found this cookbook easy to follow and the recipes uncomplicated. You can't go wrong with the Spicy Asian Meatballs, Garlic Cheese Spread, or the Low-Fat Cheesecake among others. I have used many of Robin's recipes for cocktail parties and they are a huge hit. Great advice and fun stories from her personal life all make a good read. Just wish Robin still had her cooking show on Lifetime. The fact that I have met her on several occasions and she is always warm and friendly, makes this all the more enjoyable!

It was surprising how simple they were to prepare and how great tasting in the end. Being a fan of AMC for over 20 years, knowing more about Robin made it even more enjoyable. I plan to give it as a gift this Christmas.

Review Date: 2008-04-29
A book which is very easy to understand with many examples from physiology and social behaviour. For those who are new in the subject with the least mathematical background it is a highly recommended book. R. Warner offers a very intuitive approach to the difficult subject of spectral analysis and motivates, in a sense, the interested ones to go further with more advanced texts. For those who would like to get the idea of spectral analysis, to apply and interpret it, especially in the context of the behavioural sciences, it is the ideal book. However, for those who are more mathematically inclined (e.g. engineers, physicists or economists) and are interested in the-how-and-the-why by means of mathematical reasoning, other texts would be more appropriate.

An excellent manual for those ignoring everything about spec

I think this book is extremely simple. The only knowledge required to understand it is perhaps Ordinary Least Squares. A theoretical explanation of the spectral analysis is not in the book. There is only a brief comment on De moivre's theorem (the one allowing and sustaining the whole spectral analysis) in a footnote. The main purpose of the author is to deliver an empirical methodology for empirical researchers not interested in the theories. The advantage is that, once you see such empirical applications, you understand the underlying idea of spectral Analysis. The elementary examples are very illuminating. The book is well organized and the review of "de-trending" (on this particular subject, I would like to say that the scientific discussion has evolved a lot in the last 20 years and the author's presentation is a little bit old), "harmonic analysis", "periodogrammes" seems pretty coherent. Perhaps the only drawback is that the text is a little repetitive and thus, slightly boring; but this is a minor problem, if you consider that this style will make more solids the understanding of the fundamental concepts. It's a great introduction to spectral analysis. Students having standard mathematical knowledge should begin here and then start reading more technical works, such as Bloomfied's "Fourier Analysis of Time Series" and the chapter of spectral analysis of Hamilton's "Analysis of Time Series".

Found this book in our library and was excited about learning more of Dick Francis. I did get lost at times when he wrote about the race courses, but it was a thrill to get to know him. It is not a mystery, but there are some questions he still does not know the answer to. He writes a book a year, and I could read 4 or 5 of his books a year if he could write them that fast! Nice read.

This book is a must have for any Dick Francis or horse racing fan. This was the first book of his that i have read and now i have all of his so far. What i was looking for was a book to tell me about this little known sport. Now i know a great deal about it. I'm hoping for a newer version to tell about what has happened since the book waas written. I read the older 1950's or 1960's print with the pictures of Devon Loch in the Grand National. That was what most intrigued me about the story and what made him fall like that. Like i said this is an excellent book and very informative!

My passion for horses and horse racing was apparent even when I was a child. Dick Francis' books allowed me the experiences I dreamed of through his words. I learned more through his books than I could have anywhere else in the United States. It is said that truth is stranger than fiction, and Mr. Francis' autobiography is testimony to that! I now own a 5 year old (retired) Thoroughbred, and Mr. Francis' adventures are in my thoughts!

A must-read for Dick Francis fans.

This book was originally written shortly after Francis' retirement from racing. It chronicles his life in detail up to that point (1957), and all fans of his mystery novels will enjoy seeing the germs of his books in the events of his life. I won't give the really surprising ones away here, but an example is the story in the autobiography of Francis' experience flying during WWII. Readers will understand where he got the knowledge to create several heroes who are pilots. The only reason I don't give this book a 10 is that it is very early Francis--his first book, as near as I can tell, and the quality of the writing as a bit uneven. The edition I read (1982) had no photos--a terrific disappointment, but there were apparently photos in other editions, as Francis refers to them once or twice in the text of the book. Try for a different year! The end of the book is an addendum bringing fans up to date on his life between 1957 and 1981; I've ordered the 1995 edition hoping for a little more added material. If you love horseracing or Dick Francis' books, read this!
