Blue and White Transfer Ware, 1780-1840

Blue and white transfer-printed earthenware was produced in vast quantities in the early nineteenth century. It was made in the Staffordshire Potteries, and also in Yorkshire, Lancashire, Northumberland and South Wales. After the Napoleonic Wars a large export trade to North America was established. The wares that have survived are now avidly collected on both sides of the Atlantic and some are now exported from Britian as antiques.

This book describes and illustrates over 150 of the relatively few pieces of blue and white transfer ware that do bear the makers' mark. This will help dealers and collectors in their attempts to attribute other specimens. Great stress is also laid on the need to examine all characteristics of the pieces before identifying their makers - colour, glaze, shape, etcetera are fully considered. The captions to the photographs add much detailed information, and a great many new facts about transfer-printed pottery are included. These will greatly assist collectors, and anyone beginning to take an interest in the subject.

Elegantly Written, Erotic and Extraordinarily Sexual
Helpful Votes: 54 out of 56 total.
Review Date: 1999-11-09
This is the second of three books following the same "heroine" through a trying group of masters and mistresses. There IS A PLOT, complete with character development, a sense of suspense and excellent prose. Strongly recommended for those who like literate erotica. Substantially superior to other books in the same genre, one can read the book, follow the story and, at the same time, heartily enjoy the descriptions of Caroline's submission. Buy the next installment (Bound to Submit) and, if you can find it, the beginning of the trilogy (Bound to Obey). One can trace the writer's increasing skill through each of the books.

Delicious and "Rigorous" Conclusion to the Trilogy
Helpful Votes: 30 out of 30 total.
Review Date: 1999-11-30
Once again a delightfully readable book full of sensuously described eroticism. Mostly believable tale of the completion of the submission of Caroline. Characters continue to grow and become more interesting throughout this trilogy. One can readily see in minds eye the ordeals of Caroline and the manner in which she eventually enjoys them. Outstandingly described sexuality.

Great Heartwarming Book

If you like Chicken Soup For the Soul, you'll love Buffalo Soul Lifters. The author, Frank Thomas Croisdale, weaves his prose like a master painter working in oils.

I found him to possess a voice that gave the stories congruity that the Chicken Soup books lack.

It's about Western New York, but is timeless enough to work for readers from all points on the globe.

The story of the purple balloon will stay with you for a long time.

Buy this book if you need a dose of hope and positve feelings in your life.

Although not a book of formulas, one will recieve all the information one needs to easily duplicate this glaze in all its variations.

A wealth of true-life stories of family mealtime camaraderie

Chicken Wing Wisdom: Western New York Stories of Family, Life and Food is much more than a cookbook - it collects a wealth of true-life stories of family mealtime camaraderie (or discord)! A handful of black-and-white photographs illustrate the timeless slice-of-life moments that make for wonderful leisure reading, especially while waiting for treats like Lisabeth's Healthy Birthday Cake or Sr. Mary Johnice's Cheese Souffle to cook! Profiles of individual recipe creators, often mothers whose creations grew out of love for their families and friends, enhance this superior collection of taste-tested dishes. "If I could, I would have only round tables... everywhere that people eat together. For when you bring people together at a round table, - the food, the conversation, the love - everything flows around the table with no end."

Wonderful book of children figurines!

Almost every page has full color photos. Included is maker's marks identification information, as well as a value guide in the back. If you're interested in figurines, this book contains some valuable information about who made what where. Here are some of the kinds of figurines in this book: piano babies, Heubach, Fairing pieces, snowbabies, Frozen Charolettes, nodders, half-dolls, Occupied Japan. This is the most comprehensive guide to china children figurines I've ever found. I bought the book and then became a collector. It might make a collector out of you, too!

Critic of Chinese Blue and White Porcelain
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2001-12-15
I purchased this book to get a better understanding of Chinese Blue and White Porcelain. It totally fulfilled this requirement.

This book is very helpful for a beginning or mature collector. It is simple to understand and easy to read. There are many pictures and very detailed pictures of markings on the bottom of your objects.

Also, if you find a topic not addressed in the book you can email Duncan and he will assist you in resolving your issue.

The bottom line is that this book is "Brilliant".
