This is the best multimedia series I have ever seen! The courseware covers Chinese learning by enhancing your grammar, speaking,
writing, and listening skills. It does so with textook, audio CD, multimedia course, and workbook. It also provides answers
with clear explanations. The passages in the textbook are fun to read, the vocabulary taught are just the right amount.
The information you're taught really helps you learn Chinese and to be able to use it in a practical manner, especially when
you study abroad. There are multimedia exercises like Bingo; you can record conversations with the computer and practice
before or after classroom time; you get to watch videos of native speakers; read cool traditional Chinese fables; and it has
animated stroke orders if you're interested in writing Chinese characters! Everything is really fun, interesting, and informative.
And you will learn so much helpful, useful, and practical daily Chinese language! I would highly recommend this multimedia
courseware!

Perfect for any elementary school. I reccomend this book for anyone that wants their kids to have a career when they grow
up. As a parent and college student, I find the policy of teaching exclusively european languages to be a sad commentary on
our educational system. (Spain is in Europe BTW) Chinese language is easier than one would expect, don't be afraid.

I picked these cards up when I was in China two years ago, and I am very pleased with my purchase.
These are an excellent resource for Mandarin instructors. The cards are a good size with large pictures, Chinese characters, and pinyin. It is easy to use in a small class because all of the students can easily see and read the cards. I teach elementary students Chinese in small classes and one-on-one. I always use these cards during my classes.
I suggest picking up the level 2 & level 3 cards as well.

A very concise and practical textbook. Unlike other new textbooks which are much bigger and heavier and with excessive data,
you can actually finish reading a chapter in this book in an hour with a good understanding of the disease. Each chapter
is written by a well-known expert of the field, and not by residents or some unknown people.
This is the book that you must have.

I recently purchased the book as a gift for my aunt, who is a chef. I was amazed and awestruck at what I saw. The carvings
were beautiful, and in some cases, even more beautiful than the real flowers. Worth every single penny! The only problem
I had with it was that the instructions came in four different languages on each page, and it was a tad disorienting locating
the English portions. Other than that, I have no complaints!

this from experience working in garde-manger for many years, and being a caterer. This book greatly assists the novice and
the experienced. It is in great comfort I can recommend this book to anyone with an artistic flare.

The best book in the field

The editors DeLiang Wang and Guy Brown represent two of the teams with the most experience in auditory scene analysis, but
in this book they've gone out of their way to also include the best and latest work of many other teams working in the field,
and they have edited it into a coherent whole. Since I'm getting back into this field after a ten-year side track, I found
this book to be a good guide to the current state of the CASA art. For newer people in the field, it will be a welcome overview
and history of the fundamentals, including cochleagrams, correlograms, time-frequency masks, tracking multiple pitches, binaural
localization, etc. The book goes into depth on auditory scene analysis based on a variety of cues, such as pitch and localization,
and explores both feature-based and model-based approaches, including techniques that explicitly exploit the structure of
speech and music. Techniques motivated by mathematical and computational elegance are contrasted with techniques based on
known properties of the auditory nervous system and psychoacoustics. For anyone needing an introduction to this exciting
field, or anyone wanting to do work in it, this book is a must-have.

How do we manage to separate, in the everyday acoustic cacophony, the sound we hear from those we wish to ignore? We, humans,
may be able to do it, but often inefficiently and with great effort. This is why work by groups of scientists and engineers,
aimed at having the machine accomplish separation of sounds, especially speech sources, is becoming an important and ever-growing
area of computer science. The book edited by DeLiang Wang and Guy Brown, two of the foremost experts of the area, is a notable
achievement aimed at exposing intriguing aspects of computational signal separation with special emphasis on speech, written
by leading figures of the field. This volume should be a required addition to the bookshelf of audio engineers, computer scientists,
and applied mathematicians, but it is also likely to end up as a textbook to be used in graduate- and upper-level undergraduate
courses in engineering departments.

Hilarious. I couldn't stop guffawing. Pure genius how Lucy Wang raises our consciousness about the dire need for more organs
and the inequity of organ distribution, but instead of beating us over the head like most playwrights do, she entertains,
provokes, regales so we can think for ourselves. Her full-length plays GOOD MOURNING, AMERICA and JUNK BONDS, published by
Original Works, proves Ms. Wang is a master artist with star power.
The Perfect Ten-Minute Play

A short play has to have several things in order to be succesful: a plot that grabs your attention, extremely well-defined
characters, a recognizable and consistent mood, and an incredibly clear point of view. And all of these things must be established
within moments. Lucy Wang, who is a master craftswoman, has done all of that, and more, in "Conterto for Organ in B-Sharp."
I bought the play because I am a huge fan of her work; I also LOVE short plays. Concerto will be perfect for almost any night or festival of short pieces, and it will not only stand out, it will be remembered as a highlight. The characters are hilarious, and the plot (a game show in which a dying person gets to decide who gets her organs) is ridiculous--in the best sense of the word. And who knew that the precise week I read the play a game show with the identical concept would crop up in Europe--to the horror of sane people everwhere. But remember: Lucy Wang thought of it first.
From a production standpoint, it can be done with all the bells and whistles or in as minimalist a style as one can imagine. That's one of Wang's strengths: she leaves a lot up to the directors and actors. Take this piece and have a ball.

In Njbokcenter they recommended me to buy this book and although it is entirely in chinese it is suitable even for beginners
like me because it helps us to correct and improve our pronunciation and it comes with 3 cds, which are a great plus for it
s price.
Each cd provides correct pronunciation of hundreds of words and also useful dialogues and even poems.
Do not miss it.

This book is the real deal. It covers every aspect of Mandarin pronunciation, even emphasis, which I haven't seen in a pronunciation
book before. It even includes a selection of chengyu (four-character idiomatic expressions, such as "crouching tiger hidden
dragon"), poems, and readings (classical poems and some short stories. It is also superbly produced. The "complimentary"
recordings are extremely clear and unhurried, and easy to find - each track is one complete chapter.
My only caveat is that it is probably too hard core for all but the most hard core beginners. It's written entirely in Chinese, and if you can't read Chinese at an upper intermediate level you are not going to understand anything. There would still be some value to repeating the sounds, but I would think you'd still be better off with the pronunciation section of your everyday textbook. However if you are an intermediate or advanced learner looking to improve your pronunciation (and believe me, the way most foreigners speak Chinese, if you're not you probably should be) then this book is indispensible. Even if you're not a foreigner, if you're not from north of the Yangtze, consider picking it up. I am thinking about starting a non-profit to distribute it free of charge to needy native Cantonese speakers.
In sum: if you have been learning Chinese for more than a year or two, you would do well to get this book.

In general I am a mystery and true crime buff. However, a friend of mine whose taste in books I have always admired, strongly
suggested I read this book, and I promptly did. It was difficult for me to put down as I found it to be utterly fascinating.
Dr. Hellerstein with his literary prowess gives an extraordinary picture of the history of medicine in America (1864 to
present) by utilizing his own family background. And furthermore, on a personal level, it includes the author's struggle
as he prepares to continue the tradition of healing set by his ancestors. It illustrates the theory that what we truly
and earnestly aspire to be, that in some ways we are. A MUST READ for everyone!

of this book. Set in the 18th century, young-bride Catherine is tormented with ghastly gohsts, and a hand the crawls around
and kills anybody who tries to reveal to Catherine about Fengriffens secret... this is a very good book, and everybody should
read it!
