transactional talk piece - students only

This is not a treatise nor a source of knowledge per se. It consists of 2 transactions - a vc deal and a junk bond deal and a bunch of appendices with statutes. It is designed for class room use - this is the student text and there is, apparently, a teacher's text available. The first 150 pages has some nice, simple corp.fin. information. Not much use if you're a practitioner and want to know how a junk bond deal is put together. It's pretty easy to find 85% of the material in this book for free and just print it out. The other 15% is not worth the $90 this thing costs.

I bought this book because I want to teach myself Jave - the book might be useful for a C++ programmer or someone who wants to do web pages but it has no useful information for a novice Java programmer. Don't buy this book.

I bought this thing at the local Wal-mart one day hoping to learn some Java in my spare time. In the first day, I read through page 150 and was ready to call myself a dummy, as the book's title told me I was. I do have to say that, although the dummies series has taught me many things, it does have its setbacks. I have a shelf with 14 dummies books that don't teach me anything I want to or don't already know. You can probable find out by all the other reviews that you are truly a dummy if you buy this, but I just want to help clarify why.

1) It stated so many times how to use and what the ", , and " tags that I was mixing them in with other words for many days afterward.
2)I read through the rest of the book the next day, just before I was going to return it, and found absolutely no piece of Java programming. Believe me, and all other reviews that say this, when I tell you that all it wants you to do is copy the code from websites.
3)I do have to say that I like some of Aaron Walsh's books, this one is badly formed. He repeated so many statements and facts indirectly that I probably only learned what a compacted version could have taught me in 15 pages.
4)Lastly, I have to tell you some of my recomendations for other books that do teach you Java programming.
-1-Beginning Programming with Java for Dummies: One of the dummies books that are approvable. Teaches you Java even if you don't know what the internet itself is (you will know by the end). I have to tell you that if you know some Java programming and are looking for advanced beginners to intermediate level of programming in Java, this book is not for you. (After this book, look for Java 2 for Dummies for intermediateish level)
-2-Java Programming for the Absolute Beginner (For the Absolute Beginner (Series).): Gives an adequate -- not necessarily excelent -- look at the Java programming language.
-3-Java: A Beginner's Guide, Third Edition (Beginner's Guide): Once again, not a perfect way to learn Java at a beginning stage, but it will do if you're not going to be a professional Java programmer anytime soon.

i thought this was a programming book and i could learn commands etc and syntaxes etc of java language but this book has no commands or does not treat java as a language but as a tool and says you can use java in webpages without a single line of code!

i did not read the book though once surfing through the pages i came to know it is not a programmers book, not a java programming starters tool!

maybe i have to buy another book to learn programming!

this may not be what you think it is!

Pathetic...this book should be called Java APPLETS for Dummies (P.S. no actual JAVA code involved)...come on...I might have considered giving this book a higher rating had the author come clean about the contents of this book.

NOT for those wishing to learn Java Programming!

I purchased this book while taking an Intro to Java class thinking it was a Java programming book; it is not. While I will probably find it useful if ever I decide to start building web pages using Java applets for fun, it is definitely not for anyone looking to learn or understand Java PROGRAMMING. From this purchase, I have definitely learned the hard way to read all of the REVIEWS prior to purchasing any books.

Also, using the "Search Inside" tool (when available) to view the table of contents and the copyright date are a MUST for purchasing any future books!! I have used this function for several books and have been able to make better, more informed choices based on that information. If you have not used the "Search Inside" tool, I highly recommend doing so on your next purchase.

Tony Hawks Underground Official Strategy Guide does not help at all. I beat the game without even looking at it. It was a waste of money.

If you're any good at any of the previous Tonk Hawk games you could beat this game in an afternoon. The guide is Never Helpful. It tells you where things are but you can figure that out on you're own easily. The game is short and easy and guides aren't meant for games like this. Save your money and go to gamewinners is you get stuck.

Yet another in a long line of Euro-Centric viewpoints...
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-02-06
This one has a but just a few intriguing photographs of our friend: the bison.

However, portions of the text follow a decidedly definite Euro-centric point of view with regard both the bison and the indigenous ("Native American") population of this land prior to European "settlement."

Lacking is virtually any reference to the deep and significant reverence with which the bison was held by the indigenous population.

Having written the above, just wish to let the authoress know that we indians are surer glad all you white folks came and showed us what to do with the bison bison.

It seems a shame a tree or two had to give it's very all for this particular tome.

My advice: skip it. Lots of better "bison books" out there !

$5.95 for less that two pages of marginally useless information about an intervention that had no clinical effect? Buyer beware. Selling this "brief article" at this price seems unethical to me.

Anachronistic connoisseurship
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-16
Art historical scholarship has undergone a profound revolution in the past 25 years, but you would never know it from this tedious monograph. Walsh writes reasonably well, but without passion. The greater flaw, however, is the abscence of the kinds of histortical, political, social, or other insights that would provide a context for understanding the larger significance of Steen's work. Instead, one is left with a journeyman quality academic tome.

Absolutely awful.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-06
I was attracted to this book since I was curious to find out more about the subject. A man of whom I knew very little but who played a major but unsung role in the National movement.
I have rarely been as disappointed in any book I have ever read. It is truly awful. I am reminded of the old dictum of not putting this book down lightly, rather it should be thrown away with the greatest force.
The author is not a historian of any kind, she does not have even a basic grasp of the English language. Sentences consistently mangle the most basic grammatical structures, misspellings abound. That is bad enough but she is also far too sentimental in her descriptions of events which are not even a part of the story, in particular her descriptions of Gaelic cultural & sporting events. Gushing would be an extreme understatement.
She also has an annoying tendency to vent her own biased political views.
How can a book as bad as this be published without a review of any sort ?
A good book on Sam Maguire is an excellent idea. This is not it.
