There is important new information in this book regarding Balfe's personal life, especially in regards to his wife, the soprano,
Lina Roser Balfe, as well as to Balfe's early career as a singer and his friendship with Maria Malibran. However I was appalled
by the numerous spelling and grammatical errors that occur throughout the book, as well as by the many instances of poor sentence
structure. It seemed that no one proof-read the manuscript prior to printing the book.

As the specialty of palliative medicine matures, more and more books have been published, however, the classic Oxford Textbook
of Palliative Medicine remains the standard by which others are compared. In Walsh's new book, palliative medicine is comprehensively
covered, including several chapters not included in other textbooks. However, one problem with the book is it's fragmentation.
For example, there is not a clear, comprehensive chapter on opioids--I found myself having to switch between 2 or 3 chapters
to get the information I needed. Such fragmentation makes it difficult to readily use a textbook, and as a consumer, encourages
me to spend my dollars elsewhere. I look forward to the 2nd edition, where I hope such fragmentation will be eliminated, making
Walsh's book ostensibly one of the top in the specialty.

Compendium of the results of 95 empirical studies on the relationship between financial performance and social performance
of corporations. Most of the book (122 pages) is devoted to bar charts and tables describing the 95 studies and to a tabulation
of the characteristics of each one of them. Unfortunately there is almost no discussion of the results and the implications
for corporate behavior (13 pages at one and a half spaces). This should be of interest to researchers in the area looking
for a description of the studies carried so far, but of little use to practitioners that are searching for answers beyond
those usually provided by the two handed economist: "on the one hand...........but on the other hand..". In this sense, the
title is missleading, as it makes you think that an answer will be provided, or at least, if one is not available, that the
issues will be discussed.

just did not enjoy the purses, and they are crazy about anything to do with princesses.

A Regency Christmas II is an anthology first released in November 1990. Seasonal stories written by some highly acclaimed
authors . . .
Mary Jo Putney: "Sunshine For Christmas." -- Rating: B
A pleasant read. Impulsively, Lord Randolph Lennox decides to flee England to escape his painful memories. His whimsical plans include Italy and he finds himself in Naples at Christmas. Over a misunderstanding, Miss Elizabeth Walker gladly offers support to a bewildered Lord Lennox. Soon they are fast friends. Friends who discover they can escape life's loneliness together. Mary Jo Putney's SUNSHINE FOR CHRISTMAS is good, but it is the moments of painful tenderness that truly save the story.
Anita Mills: "The Last Wish." -- Rating: B
Repeatedly I am amazed at Anita Mills' talent to insert her reader into her story's setting and in THE LAST WISH this adept author once again capitalizes on her extraordinary skill. Sir John Grey is dying; he waits for death while he reflects on his life. His money-grubbing heirs gather for his death; all, but one, are ready to pick over the remains of Sir Grey's prosperous life. What they don't foresee is the arrival of a gentle woman and a small child. An unlikely pair who will forever change their lives. A well-written story, even though some of the slang was a struggle.
Mary Balogh: "Playing House." -- Rating: A+
PLAYING HOUSE is simply a wonderful story. There is not a drop of sexual activity found among these Balogh's words, but with this author's skill who needs it? Stephen, The Marquess of Bedford returns to his childhood home, the estate of Bedford Hall. He returns, with his small daughter, to relive the happy memories of carefree youth. He will give his child her own joyous memories. Instead he finds his first love, Lilias Angove. How dare poverty-stricken Lilias interfere in his renewal of happiness? Balogh pulls at her reader's heart with this touching and beautifully written story. Well done!
Clara Kelly: "The Three Kings." -- Rating: C
Too somber! Carla Kelly's THE THREE KINGS is just too gloomy for a Christmas anthology. Together, in the dead of winter, Lady Sarah Comstock and Colonel Luis Sotomayor travel through war-torn Spain. Unfortunately, they are only one step ahead of Napoleon's French troops -- French troops intent on slaughter. Kelly's words may be true, war is hell, but this is too depressing.
Sheila Walsh: "The Christmas Star."- Rating: C.
A CHRISTMAS STAR is definitely a story with a highly improbable plot. Russian Prince Andrei Zarcov beseeches Louise Beresford, a poor country girl, to befriend his childhood love. A lonely young woman who has just given birth to a child. Louise agrees, for Louise is bewitched by Prince Zarcov's fairytale good looks and smooth manners. Simply put -- too exaggerated!

Even the best ¨critical¨ ¨theory¨ is just stuff that's been made up to sound big and clever - and this anthology's no different.
Some of the pieces are better than others - in that they correlate more with my personal prejudices. One might expect a book
about WSB and Globalisation to critique Burroughs's engagement with the Control Machine: Nike/Gap ads, work with corp-rockers
U2 blah blah, publication by Murdoch and so on. Strangely this is all omitted. There's not much point pretending it didn't
happen just coz it's too hard for you. At least WSB never pretended he was a lefty like these guys do.

This is an excellent read for anyone interested in business. The mistakes and lessons learned in this book can be applied
to a variety of business situations. Its amazing to read how A&P was doing so well during the height of the Great Depression,
it equally as amazing to see how their business has steadily declined since then. After reading this, I wondered about Wal-Mart
and their future.

This book covers the history of Russia from earliest history, through the problems of the early Soviet Union, the book having
been written in 1958. This book is written in a somewhat dry and academic style, which makes it a somewhat slow read, and
its paucity of maps is somewhat frustrating. However, this book is comprehensive in its reach, and is very informative on
pre-Soviet Russia.

This man was the filthiest person who ever lived. Lives on in Sam's Choice brands. Made it so it was like a white man's voodoo,
not a white man's ghetto like with John Smith's Baptist. I believe he was gay; he was a fruitcake. Samuel Adam's beer- I had
it- makes you celebate. Love you.

Just finished "Start Your Own Information Consultant Business" and I feel like I have a grasp of what the career of an information
broker might be like, at least in general terms.
As a person interested in careers in Information Studies, I am always browsing books that have to do with various outlying professions, other than the typical librarian or archival tracks and this seems to be one of them.
For a quick read, this title is perfect. It gives a realistic look at the numbers when it comes to the career, as well as being optimistic enough about the possibilities to still keep a person interested. Though there were some personal details from interviews with real information consultants thrown in, it would have been nice to see some more focus on actual information consultants, i.e. interviews, day-logs etc. As well as more descriptions of actual projects or jobs (there was one made-up example) that a person in the profession might be asked to do would have been useful for me.
Overall, I would recommend browsing this book at a local library but not buying it. It has some good basic information and a useful appendix (filled with organizations and other resources about information consulting) but not enough to make it worth keeping at home.
Note: Due to the 2004 publication date of this book, chapters 4 and 5, which deal with technology (hardware, software), are somewhat outdated. Use them at your own risk.
