A guide to what you should go deeper

The book "key management models" is an useful guide to 90% of the most read and applied administration philosophy. Is is both a good starting point to understand the context and a way to refresh your memory for the ones that have read it decades ago.
But one should not expect to learn it all from this book as it summarizes a 200 pages book in 3 pages.
Finally the last comments on the application of the philosophy are fair and, from my experience on some of the topics, very close to the day-to-day business reality.

a book all teachers should read

As a former Chicago public school teacher, I can vouch for the truth of many of Walsh's statements about the failures of the school system and the impotence of the Chicago Teacher's Union. Most importantly, her ideas about teacher empowerment are ones that are relevant to teachers everywhere in the US, especially considering the present push towards teacher "accountability", measured almost entirely by questionable standardized tests, which many want to use as an excuse to punish teachers and schools with the highest level of low-income students. We need teachers, not bureaucrats and politicians, deciding how children need to be educated, and we need teachers to describe the problems inherent in many schools and to express their ideas on possible solutions. The book is also a story of someone who learns from life's experiences and a study of an intelligent, dynamic and caring educator. I know Deborah Lynch Walsh; she is an honest person with ideas that need to be given credence and more publicity. Her concern certainly comes across in her book, which I found interesting and readable.

When I was in my teens I had to read this book from Uslar Pietri as "homework". The man is a genious storyteller. The way the characters come to life in this novela touches every fiber of your heart. To undesrtand Venezuela is to understand his/her writers, what best example of a venezuelan masterpiece with "Lanzas Coloradas".It is a detailed account of the Venezuela already gone and past during the time of the colonies. Is a description of the liberating efforts of Simon Bolivar during the tumultuos years of Independence.A must read.

Karl is definately on to something. Not only is his writing more defined and cleaned up, his research has expanded as well. To help explain his points Karl uses a composite story of events that happened in actual lives of compulsive liars. Very well done and very well put together. If you are interested in compulsive lying this is definately a source of information you want to pick up.

Charming, evocative account of a great missionary-monk

This is a charming account of the great 6th century Irish missionary-monk Columban (also known as Columbanus) (d. 615) by a friendly Irish Catholic scholar. Concannon evokes the world of Columbanus with a healthy mix of imagination and scholarship, although at times she may a bit too trusting in her medieval sources. Nonetheless, students of Columban will find her work a worthy starting place. Knowledge of Latin is helpful (but not necessary) since quotations in that language are left untranslated.

A Big Little Book for Little Big People

It's often a stretch to find quality poetry which will appeal to students... many children feel that "good poetry" begins and ends with Shel Silverstein. THE LITTLE BOOK OF DOGS is deceptive; it slips under the radar of the apathetic student reader.

Middle school students will pick it up, lulled into complacency by its small size... after all, how challenging can a book less than 75 pages long actually be? They may hestiate a moment upon discovering the content... poetry, hmmm. Not funny poetry... not all of it, at least. But... the illustrations are nice, and they'll likely shrug and give it a go.

Ah, foolish student! In your quest for an easy read, you've dipped your mind into poetry - REAL poetry, by REAL poets whose names you have never heard! Be cautious, student... you will find it difficult to disengage from this tiny treasure. You may even be tempted to take it for a walk with you.

In a nutshell - real poetry, glorious illustrations, and a charming way to introduce the recuctant poetry reader to a marvelous world.

This book, Solitary Plover ...is an excellent introduction to poet Lorine Niedecker's life and work. Niedecker is beginning to be recognized as a major poet of the 20th century. Her work has invited comparison to Emily Dickinson. Phyllis Walsh, the author, lived in the area of Wisconsin that Niedecker was from, and was one of the first to write about this poet who called herself a "solitary plover...

A fair book...not for learning TeX though

This book isn't meant for learning TeX from. If you're buying this book, then you should already be familiar with TeX, and are probably looking for ways to improve or add to your current TeX environment. The book covers a great many topics, but doesn't go into any great deal in any of them. Covers some of the more popular macro packages available, and has a good section on fonts and a decent introduction on how to do simple graphics in TeX/LaTeX. Overall, a nice book for the TeX library, but not an essential. A good book for the beginner TeX user, but advanced users probably won't get much out of it.

Maximo Vs Army of Zin: Official Strategy Guide

IT'll get you through the game

Maximo vs. Army of Zin is a tough game to master so you might need a leg up. Unfortunately BradyGAMES doesn't quite give you the boost you need all the time and while you can find everything, you'll have a heck of a time trying to find it using this walkthrough.

The guide begins with character bios and a short introduction. Then it goes into the "Knight School" section which will teach you everything you need to know about the game including the differences in difficulty levels. It gives you all the combos for all the weapons and prices for new combos and such which is good.

But beyond that the walkthrough is the problem. It'll get you through the game but the way its composed and presented doesn't always work. They begin with a 3D level map pin-pointing out items, telling you how many enemies, secret chests and innocents are in a level. But then the walkthrough begins with its text and thats when you notice a few things. For one, this walkthrough paces very slowly, focusing on some things that have no meaning in the walkthrough.

Second, there are a lack of screenshots in this guide. Some things it tries to explain but then there's no screenshot to illustrate what the author is trying to say. At least the walkthrough is well written in the aspect that the author is talking to you and not babying you.

The guide WILL help you master the game 100% but you have to be willing to work at a level slowly. The guide points out optional chests and tells you what's inside. When it comes to innocents, however, the guide is helpful but slow. If you are going to use this guide its one of those games where if you need some help you have to pause it... if you don't an innocent might be killed.

If you need the leg up this is a great guide to buy. It'll even tell you what the point to mastering all those levels are and the guide has no spoilers so it isn't bad. But the lack of screenshots and slow moving detail in the walkthrough make it so that you spend more time reading the walkthrough than playing the actual game.
