I really enjoyed this book. It is a poem in it's entirety. I felt moved and uplifted by this writing. I really appreciated it at a time in my life when I was sad as it change my view point at the time. I have read this book over and over throughout the last 10 years and suspect that I will again read it over and over again from time to time for the rest of my life. I believe it is a keepsake to pass on from one generation to the next.

Awesome! Get this book and crack open your childhood!

I loved this book! IT's SUPER!

I was apparently a WHAM-O addict in my youth... I identified so many products! SuperElasticBubblePlastic, Super Stuff, Water Wiggle, Slip'N'Slide, Frisbee, Super Balls, Hacky Sack... just to name a few.

Either I bought them because they were priced at "allowance" level, or I begged my parents until they relented. Much to their chagrin due to scraped elbows and knees, stained or melted carpet, furniture varnish ruined, or windows smashed. Oh well, childhood was not so "safe" then but I survived with a big grin!

Wonder layout, graphics, ads, photos, stories and anecdotes about the company's full history and the time line of the products: winners, losers and lethal categories.

For kids of ALL AGES... toys 'n'n stuff from the 60s, 70s, 80s and later!

More info and teasers about the book can be seen at the author's website here:

Wonderful, accessible translation!

This edition of Perpetua's Passion, remarkably, a college student-produced translation, makes the story of Perpetua's short life and martyrdom accessible and even riveting. Walsh's introduction is erudite and yet perfectly pitched to undergraduate readers. Because of the wide range of information provided in introduction and notes, this translation would be suitable for use in classics, theology, ancient history, gender studies, ethics, and literature courses.

This book caught my eye at the library and, after checking it out I decided I had to have it for my own. The author is from Australia and derives her design from nature located there. It has lush illustrations and wonderful applications for wool embroidering on clothing, purses, etc. The instructions are clear and consise and there are new stitches and techniques included. Patterns for the vests, purses, tea cozies and other items are included.

Great Book!

Walsh and LeRoy go beyond the parameters of a typical research study as they share the experiences and the realities of women from around the world (18 countries to be exact) in a way that is informative and compassionate. Situating aging in a global web of social programs and public policy, the authors delve into the issues that matter most. Using a case study approach to introduce each topical chapter, the authors first allow women to tell their stories, thereby providing space to women who have been marginalized for the greater portion of their lives. This in itself is remarkable and commendable. The book is also rigorously academic, citing and adding to research on health, income, employment, family relationships, friendships, leisure, quality of life, and others for people with and without disabilities. This book is definitely an indispensable resource and staring point for further research in each field of aging, gender, and disability studies.

This is a compilation of very short and compelling stories. The ones that especially stand out are the ones about Thurkill the Tall and Harold Godwinson. The stories are written in sparse, poignant language. Bravo!

A charming, learned murder mystery by an author who deserves to be better known than she is. Walsh blends a contemporary setting (a Cambridge college in the 1990s) with a style reminiscent of such grande dames as Dorothy Sayers and Josephine Tey. Rich character development and some intriguing historical asides.

A Year Is Round

Review Date: 2004-11-18
A lovely little book featuring illustrations by Joan Walsh Anglund. There is an illustration for each month of the year which also features the Zodiac sign that goes along with the month. For example, February shows two warmly-clad children in a snowy barnyard drawing water from an old-fashioned pump. (The zodiac sign for February is Aquarius, the Water Bearer.) Next to each illustration is a short verse or quote. Also listed are the birthstone and flower for each month. The copyright of the book is 1966.
