Best English Grammar

This is the best grammar book! My copy dates from 1966. I had no idea that it was still published. I wish I had bought my kids this book. It is a great reference. It actually shows how to diagram sentences. We knew what adverbs and adjectives were. This would be a great book for anyone. I am so happy to find that it is still in publication.

The best easy to use grammar reference around

Any concept that was in your grade school English text book will be here. That concept will be concentrated into the most concise description possible and an example will be given. There are no exercises to test you. This book is not designed to teach you English from scratch. It is an easy to navigate reference that has everything in it. If you are fluent in English and can read and write alright but want to brush up, then this is the perfect book. The descriptions are short, but they are easy to understand and give enough information.

The first half of the book is on grammar. Each grammatical concept gets a few sentences to describe it and an example. The second is on how to write better. Once again each tip gets a short description and an example. Walsh is not trying to teach you how to write by some method. Instead he has points like having a unified theme for the paragraph and tips on how to emphasize a particular point you are making. He also has samples of different types of letters. So even though he is discussing style he is keeping the discussion very objective.

This is a very practical and easy to navigate book on grammar. Now I am out of school and trying to navigate the real world, where how I present myself actually matters. In trying to better my grammar and writing this is an excellent tool. (Of course Walsh would be completely revolted by the grammar of this review. I am trying to review what basically amounts to all the grammar in the entire English language here and it is not so simple.)

If you want practical, then this is the book for you. School libraries should keep a copy for students to access. Anyone who has to write regularly should be familiar with this reference.

(This review is for the 1946 edition, which has only 136 pages.)

Such a great cookbook; even a complete novice could follow and execute these recipes successfully. Better than most vegetarian cookbooks- Not the "same old recipes"!

Phenomenal Cookbook!

This cookbook is a great resource. I was unable to make the jump to vegan vegetarianism until I came across this book. Many of the recipes in the book have a big taste which I missed when using other cookbooks. The recipes are not weird or unusual and many catapult off of mainstream cooking ideas. It is easy to make delightful, delicious, attractive dishes. The recipes are mostly uncomplicated and the ladies go into detail about the products they use and how to obtain them. Kudos to the Micheff sisters!!! More cookbooks please!!! :)

Sheila's heart, honesty and love for God shine through the pages of this book. You feel like she's sitting down to coffee with you and sharing how God has worked in her life, how He has taken her on a journey of faith. She brings great Biblical insights, but doesn't pretend to have all of life's answers. Refreshing! I was actually sad when I finished this book. I wanted to continue the coffee chat. I'm buying several for Christmas presents!

This is a book for people that are ready to listen. The Old Testament can be difficult to understand but Sheila has a way of explaining how extraordinary these stories are and how they relate to our lives. After reading this book, I have a clearer understanding what God is asking and a deeper purpose for my Faith. I didn't go looking for this book. And almost didn't buy it. I'm grateful that I listened to my instincts!

Extravagant Grace-Devotions Celebrate God's Gift of Grace

A devotion book written by Women of Faith, Inc. that focuses of God's Grace. The devotions are written by Patsy Clairmont, Barbara Johnson, Marilyn Meberg, Luci Swindoll, Sheila Walsh and Thelma Wells. Some of these names are well-known but all the women have been connected with the Women of Faith conferences for women. The devotions are generally about three pages long and are not dated. In other words, this is not a year-long devotional book but it contains about 60 devotions.

Fired up about FIRED

To use the tag line of this production "Rejection has never been so hilarious!" is so true. No truer words are spoken

When Annabelle Gurwitch was fired from a Woody Allen Play, she gathered friend's & coworkers, and got essays of being fired. This collection is a laugh riot. If you have not seen this show performed or the DVD, this is a private audio for you and anyone who may be listening with you.

This CD also has former NPR columnist Tsing Loh's "The F that could" with bleeps . . . I wished there was an un-bleeped version, I want to hear it. You know even with all the BLEEPS, you will laugh, string and long, at this audio essay of censorship

There are a few weak stories in this CD, but they are short (THANK GOD) and does not take away from the magical night where to be FIRED is king!

The true stories of over a dozen different actor's experiences of being fired
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-14
Fired is a full cast audiobook of a nonfiction play - the true stories of over a dozen different actor's experiences of being fired, some from acting jobs, some from summer jobs they worked as a teenager, and some who worked jobs so horrible that getting fired would have been a relief. Each tale, told in the voice and words of the actor who experienced it, is a vivacious, witty, often darkly ironic look at the selfishness and foolishness of the working world in general and Hollywood's working world in particular. From Annabelle's crushing disappointment in having her idol Woody Allen "ruin my Woody Allen experience" by calling her "retarded" before dismissing her from his "uninspired, as critics would later say" production, to Sandra Tsing Loh's extremely unlikely salvation due to a Janet Jackson's naked breast on TV (Ms. Loh just happened to be fired for obscenity on the radio shortly before Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction), to Jim Turner's mind-numbing experience with a manager who would give endless speeches that were nothing but the same platitude over and over, Fired is the perfect way to forget one's own troubles by listening to (and laughing at) the troubles of others. Highly recommended.

As a chaplain I find that many people come to me asking how they can teach the bible to their children. As I was looking for ways to do this with my own children I came accross this delightful little book at a retreat and have since recomended it numerouse times. My two boys are 5 and 4, and while they do love the bible it can sometimes be hard to give them practical examples and this book does an excelent job of it and the fact that there is a sword on front and even just the title makes my boys both want to open it every day. I read the stories from the bible and then sumarize with this book to them. The only problem I have now is that I need to by another copy so that both boys can have their own.

It's a great book to read on the bus, on the porch, or where ever you have time for a good read that will definitely put a smile on your face. The price is right and it also makes a good gift!

It is indeed the greatest Christmas adventure story I have ever read. It is funny, adventurous and I couldn't put it down. My kids wanted me to read it again to them. I'm certain that any child would have a wonderful time reading it. I hope the author continues to write books of this nature. I would recommend it to anyone from 7 to 107 years old! Don't pass it up.
