To better understand the techniques of a modern master

Review Date: 2008-07-06
A poet of extraordinary self- consciousness in regard to technique , Stevens was a linguistic innovator of the first rank. This study focuses on his means of creating his own poetic universe through metaphorical means, through seeking of startling means of making resemblances , and defining dissimilarities. Influenced by Wordsworth and Coleridge and the Romantic poetic theoretical obsession with Imagination as central poetic faculty Stevens repeatedly perceives Reality in powerfully transformative and surprising ways. This work reveals much about the particular techniques Stevens uses and will be of great use to any close reader of the master maker, who found moods of mind as movements of the seasons, and who combined in his own musical way, the inner and outer worlds into perplexing harmonies of wider songs and sounds.

what can i say!?! lyndi's book on plastic collectibles remains the definitive work on the subject, even after all these years. it is thorough and very well presented and is truly an invaluable guide for anyone with an interest in such items, from the serious collector to the weekend thrift-store explorer! particularly informative are her discussions of the characteristics and histories of the many varieties of plastics, as well as the appendices listing trademarks and references. recent cable programs concerning the role plastics have played in modern society should spark a renewed fascination in these timeless items with very specific origins!

i must add that i write this not only because it is true, but also because i am the proud owner of a first edition, inscribed by the author! this volume has resided in my library through many journeys on the road of life, and has always been an unfailing source of smiles and fond recollections of my dear friend lyndi...i can only hope that she has enjoyed good health, happiness, and success since the time when our paths crossed...

one final recommendation...for a totally satisfying reading experience, try Mozart violin concertos in the background...trust me...profound!!

When I first got this book I wasn't sure what it could do for me, however, I found it very informative on fashions and styles. It teaches you how to use 8 articles of clothing to create over 4 weeks of interchangeable wear, never repeating the same combination's more than once. This worked great for my travel. It even shows you how to pack, what to pack and a packing list!!

Teach me to care and not to care.

Review Date: 2003-04-17
In his poem Ash Wednesday, T. S. Elliot wrote, "Teach me to care and not to care." As one of the pioneers of the hospice movement and as a parish pastor, Bill Blaine-Wallace has discovered the power of this divine attention and indifference. As Bill says, "I became indifferent to some of the religious norms of the dominant culture and paid attention to various rituals of a marginalized society." This is but one of the themes in a collection of essays that explore Christian spirituality with unusual insight and understanding.

I sat down to read one essay at a time but quickly devoured all 21 in one sitting. I basked in the warm glow that emanates from these heartfelt stories. I will read them over and over to draw sustenance from such insights into depression and healing like; "The movement from depression to sadness is the movement out of darkness into light on the trail of a modest relation. A little light can slay the darkness. A lot of light violates eyes that have become dilated in the dark."

Blaine-Wallace could only write such prose after years of trying to walk in the footsteps of "brother Jesus" as he cared for wounded souls on our journey through life. In example after example, Bill reveals his "brother Jesus" in stark comparison to the Jesus in the sweet bye and bye who jealously guards eternal life for a wrathful God.

This book is one that will become dog-eared and worn with use. It is a book I will pick up when I need a boost or nourishment or when I need to come down from my high horse.

A wee quickie on Wallace that delivers

It's small and not meant to be comprehensive ( the title says it all), but in this thin book, there are makes of places to visit in Scotland, pictures, drawing and a good concise history of William Wallace.

This is perfect for anyone wanting to know without having to wade through large history.

I highly recommend it to younger people just getting interested in Wallace, or those venturing to Scotland in the hopes of walking in Wallace path.

My 5 year old daughter loves for me to read her the story. She tells the story back and ask qestions about Wallace's inventions and why Gromit don't like being tested (poor Gromit has to go through trouble and pain to make sure each of Wallace's inventions work) on the inventions. The pages from the hard cover came off so i bought this new paperback which should hold better. The illustrations here are exactly as Wallace and Gromit should look from the film. Some are like photo image of the animated characters. Artwork and story well done. I could almost here Wallace's voice as I read his lines. An enjoyable book to read since I'm also a Wallace and Gromit fan who likes stop animation.

A BOOK THAT MY SENIORS ACTUALLY ENJOY READING

I USE THIS BOOK IN MY TEXAS LAW CLASS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. I STARTED USING IT AFTER I READ A COPY THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME AND I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH THAT I ORDERED 20 CLASSROOM COPIES. THE BOOK IS AN EASY READ AND PROVIDES REAL LIFE EXAMPLES AND SITUATIONS THAT THE STUDENTS ENCOUNTER IN EVERYDAY LIFE. THIS BOOK HAS BEEN THE CATALYST OF GREAT CLASS DISCUSSIONS. IF YOU HAVE A TEENAGER IN TEXAS OR YOU TEACH HIGH SCHOOL, YOU NEED THIS BOOK. (THE KIDS STILL DON'T BELIEVE ME THAT FIRST COUSINS CAN MARRY IN TEXAS)

A must read!

I don't normally read fiction. However, this is a great read. Easy, fast paced and a thriller. Being from Lexington Kentucky certainly helps because you know all the sights and sounds. Granted, there are numerous cliches and so forth throughout the book. However, what is going to be different I ask? Got a brain warped individual stalking young attractive women. Come on, you know the scene. However, enough suspense is built in to keep you reading. I know, I know, the detectives are all the same. Lost his mother, no wife, drinks, has sex with another detective, shabily dressed you have read it before. However, this book is fun. I look forward to another book from this local author.

Isaac James Wilkinson is an adorable five year old who has written this ABC picture book with his grandfather. An art student at Greeneview High School illustrated the book in a simple and colorful fashion that young children love. The story has an underlying theme of what was God thinking when he put such wonderful variety in his creation. Not only are the pictures beautiful but the book helps children learn the alphabet in a manner that stimulates thinking about the wonders of creation. I recommend this book to parents and grandparents of small children and to anyone looking for a baby gift.

The Founding of the Great League of the Haudenosaunee

Review Date: 1996-09-15
This is the story of the founding of the Great League of the Haudenosaunee "Iroquois", The Great Law of Peace, by the efforts of the Great Peacemaker and Hiawatha. The Tree of Peace is planted, the roots extending out to the four directions. Other Nations, those of good mind, who see it, may follow the roots back and take shelter under this tree. Each new nation adds a brace to the Longhouse & strengthens the edifice of Reason & Peace.
This composite narrative combines three written English versions of the oral tradition; The Newhouse, Chiefs & Gibson.
