This is probably the best book in this subject, and contains a wealth of information useful to the practicing reliability engineer, fleet risk manager and any software professional tasked with writing code to do warranty analysis. It assumes that the reader has a decent background in mathematical statistics, and is familiar with the basic ideas of stochastic processes, renewal equations, distributional analysis, etc. It's extremely expensive, but worth the price if you are serious about developing warranty models in a rigorous manner.

From a practical perspective, you need other statistical textbooks like Meeker's "Statistical Methods of Reliability Data" and Wayne Nelsons books to develop good reliability models from field data, and some books on imputation methods, Bayesian methods etc to help clean up missing data (which happens more often than you realise). Purchasing this book makes sense after you have a good reliability / field data collection and analysis program in place.

Overall, the book deserves a full five stars for being the best book out there in this important field

A History of Some Soil Science Bureaucrats We Can't Live Without

And so goes the American food supply.
You've probably seen those bumper stickers "Fed Your Kid Today? Hug A Farmer", but no one would probably let their kid hug a suspicious looking guy covered in dirt, alone in a field, busy probing and measuring soil quality. Critical field work that allows those huggable corporate 'growers' to keep their rice yields up for those Cocoa Krispies hyping up your child in the morning.

This book pays homage to those in-the-scene workers who've mapped and maintain the National soil data base we depend on for food, forests and fun (recreation, for example, on BLM lands, however improperly managed by current conservative crats).

As someone who likes to explore the history of the discipline he's reading, I honed in on chapter 9 "Soil Survey and Soil-Geomorphology" authored by some of our best soil geomorphologists.

Note that one of the authors of this chapter, Holliday, covers just about the same ground in FOOTPRINTS IN THE SOIL (see section 2, "Soil as A Natural Body"), which is also highly recommended for an international perspective.

It was about time (plus parent material, climate, relief, and organisms) that someone wrote a history of the Survey. Soil scientists, agronomists, geographers, geologists and historians will benefit from the long view of those who've faithfully studied one of our most important resources.

I received this little set of books as a gift, and my children just loved them. The books went to church with us and were very effective at keeping the kids quiet during the long meeting. The artwork is folksy and fun, the stories simple and accurate, and the whole feeling of the series is one of gentle reverence. We loved them.

x-cellent Novel

Irving Wallace, makes this story so thrilling and interesting that
it'd b worth to make a movie out of it. Perfectly written, with Wallace's unique style that always leaves you wanting to get deeper and further into the novel, the author tells us a story about a scientist that discovers a formula to make people live twice as long as the normal average. The story takes place in "Venecia" (italy)and is a battle between good an evil, the militia is aware of the discovery of the scientist and tries to get hold of the formula, but the people that have the formula (written on paper), try to hide anywhere in the little and beautiful city of Venice.
The whole books is about the main characters trying to get away while debating if it would be good to reveal the secret formula or not, thinking about how good it would bring or how much damage it can cause. Irving Wallace leaves you eager for more, every time you close the book, and you would not be satisfied until you finish it

As I read this to my 3-year-old, I thought about how great it would be for a homeschooler. Not only is the art superb, but it includes so much about the history of the pumpkin, how they grow, the fact that they are berries, etc... And it does so without feeling textbookish. Heck, I learned a lot. LOL!

I love this book -- it's full of wisdom and literary snippets on walking, makes me think even more than I usually do on my hikes. Makes me feel the profundity of such a simple act, setting one foot in front of the other, over the earth. I like to read it before I set out and after I come back. It's a real treasure.
