Katherine Stinson Otero High Flyer by Neila Skinner Petrick (with exceptional pastel artwork illustrations by Daggi Wallace) is an entertaining picturebook biography of the life and adventures of Katherine Stinson Otero who was the fourth American woman to be certified as an airplane pilot in the earliest days of aviation. Guiding young readers through the inspiring accomplishments of this remarkable young woman, Katherine Stinson Otero High Flyer is very highly recommended reading for all young readers, as well as an excellent picturebook resource for librarians, teachers, and parents wishing to provide young girls with inspiring role models.

DREAMS DO COME TRUE

Review Date: 2006-03-30
The year was 1912 and young Katherine Stinson was about to make her dream come true. She had long yearned to fly but no one would teach her; they all said she was too young and too small. At last, she met Max Lillie, a pilot from Sweden, who agreed to teach her. And, teach her he did.

She was an excellent student and finally heard the words that were music to her ears "You're ready to solo!" At nearly 21 years of age she" became only the fourth American woman licensed to fly." From that moment on the sky was the limit, literally.

She flew in many exhibitions, and was dubbed "the flying Schoolgirl" although she had graduated from high school four years earlier. She flew the first loop-the-loop at a California air show, and was invited to fly in Japan and China where many thousands came to watch her. She set a new distance record of 610 miles, and raised over 2 million dollars for the American Red Cross during wartime.

Today, an airfield, airplanes and monuments are named for her. She remains an example for all young people who have a dream. Daggi Wallace is a self-taught artist and illustrator whose sun-washed paintings aptly reflect the happiness and commitment of young Katherine Stinson Otero.

I'm not one for Christian books but since this had medieval knights and sword-fighting I picked it up. I was entertained by the action parts and enjoyed the religious background stuff. It was very different in a positive way. The dialog is awesome, the story line cool. K-dog in the house!

For Every Christian on the Planet

In a nut shell, this book is the best Christian book ever written. It has love, betrayal and adventure. It's set during medieval times where the Shroud of Turin is taken to this castle where no one believes in Jesus. It's top rate. If you love Camolot tales, and love Jesus, this book you'll always remember. I strongly recommend it for any reader.

Practical Resource and Reference Tool

"I've found lean-ISD to be a very useful reference tool and resource. After having been involved with CADDI consultants on a large scale application of the methodology at my last firm, I've taken on several recent projects in my new company using many of the methods, tools and templates of CADDI's PACT Processes for Training & Development. The book is designed so that I was quickly able to access the information I needed to provide my clients practical, timely and quality approaches to tackling their business issues. I highly recommend this book as a guide for business professionals challenged by either training and development, learning, knowledge management, or human competence development projects."

"lean-ISD takes all of the theory, books, courses, and pseudo job aids that are currently on the market about Instructional Systems Design and blows them out of the water.

Previous `systems' approach books showed a lot of big boxes and diagrams, which were supposed to help the reader become proficient in the design process. Here is a book that actually includes all of the information that fell through the cracks of other ISD training materials and shows you the way to actually get from one step to another. Guy adds all of the caveats and tips he has learned in more than 20 years of ISD practice and sprinkles them as job aids and stories throughout the book.

However, the most critical part of the book for me was that Guy included the project and people management elements of ISD in the book. Too often, ISD models and materials forget that we are working with real people in getting the work done. This book helps explain and illustrate best practices in ensuring success in ISD projects."

Whether locating census data or finding out about careers in sociology, this book can guide anyone through the maze that is the internet. Let's hope the authors write more Let's Go books for other topics of interest to web wanderers. Even the price is great

I loved this book. It's 99% of what I would have told our kids, but in fewer, more action-oriented words. It's extremely readable, and if taken to heart, will save graduates about five years worth of on-the-job training in the school of hard knocks.

I consider handling faith and intimacy to also be real world skills - you'll have to go elsewhere for those.

My daughter who is now 3 got both Little Bean's Friend and Little Bean when she was two years old and they quickly became her favorite bedtime stories. I think that she found she could relate and put herself in Little Bean's shoes. Very enjoyable for both parents and children.

A great read for toddlers

Little Bean is a delightful toddler learning the joy of making friends. My two year old daughter immediatly associated Little Bean with D.W., the well known little sister in Marc Brown's "Arthur" series, whom she adores. The illustrations capture the essence of an active, happy child. Great for kids starting pre-school and going through the same experience. "It's a beautiful day. You'll have more fun in the yard," Wallace writes. My daughter recites this line each time we head outdoors. We look forward to more Little Bean adventures!

I have loved Wallace Tripp's illustrations since I was a child- he puts an amazing amount of character and detail, and wonderful coloring, in his work! The verses in this book were penned from authors ranging from Emily Dickinson to Groucho Marx- and the illustrations enrich them in every case! Recommended for adults as well as little folk!

The Meanest Hound Around

By Bill and Carol Wallace Illustrated by John Steven Gurney

Freddie is a fluffy white dog that was abandoned by his boy`s dad. Then he meets Spike (a junkyad dog in training who is afraid of cats). He helps Spike escape from the junkyard and the evil canine Tiger (the strongest and scariest dog you will ever meet) and Roy (the wost human in the world). Then they have to travel far away.

Along the way they have some exiting adventures. On the first one they must face off against coyotes. Then they face off evil geese. Then they finally find hosts, hosts who already have Jake (being a Bird Dog), Ding (being an old black dog), and Biff and Barkie (who happen to be puppy Pugs). Will these hosts welcome them or do they already have enough dogs? Read this book to find out!

I gave this book a 5 star ***** rating and I recommend this book to poeple who like exiting animal books.

This was the first book I read by Bill Wallace. It was a great book! I read it with my cousin, and we'd read it each day on the way to Bible School! I recommend it! And if you like this book, you'll probably like "Watchdog and The Coyotes", too!
