A police procedural thriller set in a northern city. In Radholme, a northern market town of medium size...it is 10 p.m. and
the small local police force enters the routine of its night shift. That shift is to bring a series of dramas, crises and
climaxes: some overt, some hidden which bring about a crisis in the lives of the small force that polices Radholme, a crisis
inflamed and brought to a head by the calculated cruelty of Detective Chief Superintendent Harry Barstow.

Short and sweet: This is a must read for anyone with an interest in the biomechanics and design of organisms. Wainwright
is an excellent theorist with an incredible ability to explain these very complex topics and ideas. His theories are easily
digestible even to the lay-scientist.

Richard M. Wainwright shares his spiritual journey by sharing his most personal thoughts, feelings and experiences after his
wife, D'Ann makes her transition from this world. He details his readings with George Anderson, perhaps the greatest living
medium in the world today. This book is worth your time and money and will make you think.

One of hundreds, Janus 777 is a 26-year-old space pilot from the planet Sagateum. A ruling class known as the Elite and led by the cruel Cagulus populates Sagateum. Due to overcrowding, and resource depletion, the ruling class hopes to find a suitable world for colonization. In the meantime Janus streaks across the universe in his spaceship searching, reporting back his every encounter. For Janus, finding such a planet would guarantee him an exalted position among his planet's hierchy.
One day Janus crosses path with four planets - finding two possibly suitable. He lands on the third planet, and soon discovers that it is already inhabited. Although Janus soon learns much more than he expected, about this planet called Adamas.
After spending time with his newly found "friends," Janus must make a decision that could drastically change the face of Adamas.
The Crystal Palace of Adamas teaches an important lesson, that progress is not always better. That family is something to be treasured and at times we may have to sacrifice in order to keep this valuable gem. Authors Richard M. Wainwright and Ron Walotsky through this wonderful tale also bring awareness of our own ecosystem, and the importance of each individual to help preserve it.

Wainwright's Love Letter to the Lakes

In 1952, by no means a young man, Alfred Wainwright set out to walk every major route, on every hill of note in England's
Lake District. Every step of every journey, every sheepfold, clump of bracken, broken wall, is meticulously recorded in the
seven volume series, "A Pictorial Guide to the Lake District".
This first volume deals with an area north of Ambleside, and south of Threkeld, bounded by Thirlmere on the East, and Ullswater on the west. A total of thirty-five hills, all painstakingly mapped and illustrated in Wainwright's trademark pen and ink style. The best known of these is probably Helvellyn, to which Wainwright devotes 26 densely handwritten pages.
Wainwright never varied his style, and what goes for volume one also goes for volume seven; the fells are always presented in alphabetical order, there's always an illustration and brief general description, followed by route maps, followed by a description and drawing of the summit, followed by a chart showing what hills and lakes can be seen from the top, followed by some suggestions for any ridge-walks, and whether or not Wainwright thought they might be worth doing.
And that's about it, really. Wainwright was a true amateur - he always had a real job, and the "Pictorial Guide" material was first published in his local newspaper. Although the drawings in this book are beautiful, there's no question that better artists have drawn pictures of Lakeland mountains. Wordsworth made the Lakes famous more than a hundred years before this book was written. But nobody knew Lakeland like Wainwright, nobody did more to get people out there, not Wordsworth, Coleridge, nobody.
If you've ever sat on the summit of Helvellyn, trying to keep the rain off your sandwiches, and wondering how you're going to make it back to Glenridding without falling off a cliff, then you'll appreciate Wainwright's downplayed wit and honest information. But this book is also for you if you've never been within a thousand miles of the Lake District, and you just want to escape from it all by doing all those journeys in your head.

A collection of thirteen erudite and knowledgeable essays on environmental issues

Compiled and edited by J. A. Wainwright (Professor of English, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada), Every
Grain Of Sand: Canadian Perspectives On Ecology And Environment is a collection of thirteen erudite and knowledgeable essays
on environmental issues from a decidedly Canadian perspective. The contributing authors and their presentations range from
Lionel Rubinoff's "The World is Your Body", to "Anne Marie Dalton's "Who Cares about the Meadow?", to Onno Oerlemans' "Romantic
Origins of Environmentalism", to Ehor Boyanowky's "Cutting a Deal with Attila". Even though the perspectives are Canadian,
the issues are universal, making Every Grain Of Sand a very strongly recommended addition to Environmental Studies academic
library collections and supplemental reading lists, as well as thoughtful and thought-provoking reading for non-specialist
general readers with an interest in nature and environmental issues.

A Real Gem

This book is a gem. In the first section, Wainwright discusses the Christian's experience of Christ-the incarnate Word of
God-in the Church's liturgy through her senses and her response to those sense experiences. Catholics and Orthodox alike
may find themselves thinking that this book is written by one of their own, while Protestants (I should note that Wainwright
himself is a British Methodist minister) should find themselves challenged to think about sacraments in ways that may be new
to them. The second section takes up the matter of the munus triplex, or Christ's threefold office as prophet, priest, and
king. Here, Wainwright identifies five applications for the participation of both the individual Christian and the Church
in the prophetic, priestly, and royal offices. This discussion should be thought provoking for ministers and laity alike
as they seek how best to live out their faith.

Truly an amazing biography of the allied Philippines General. It is a shame this book is out of print as it provides insight
found in few other WWII books. It really should be part of any comprehensive World War Two reference library (personal or
public).
