Yes, A Good Book!

If you are mired down in a course on statistics and/or probability and you need a quick guide for getting the up and down of it all then use this book. It explains the ideas in a succinct and easy to understand fashion. If there is something in here you do not understand then it is a good sign you need to seek out someone to explain it to you. This will certainly help you get ready to handle the thinking involved in basic probability context. If you have not taken stats or probability yet, then this book will give you what you need to actually enjoy the work that is ahead of you.

The one downside for college students is that this book is at the high school level. So it will not by itself take you through the rigor you will need to meet a decent college level exam/lecture. There is another book called "Probabilities The little Numbers That Rule Our Lives" by Peter Oloffsson that delves into the deeper subtleties in a conversational manner. In other words, training for thinking through the foundations of the tough problems, lectures, and exam questions.

Terrific introduction to a subject we should all know better

This is a nice, short, clearly written, and amply illustrated introduction to probability. As the subtitle says, this book is intended as a primer - a first exposure to the topic. It would be suitable for high school students and anyone who wants to develop a basic understanding of the concepts involved in probability.

The book uses examples from games of chance (gambling), sports, and everyday life. The solutions to the problems are provided in the back, so it is a book that can be used for self-study - I consider this a huge plus.

Probability is a topic that should be more widely understood in our society. This book can begin the journey to that understanding for anyone who wants to gain an understanding of this vital subject.

Finally, a book that fully and correctly explains RCRA!

A colleague shared this book with me to help explain some meaty aspect of RCRA. I finally understand what is required so that I can talk intelligently with the regulators. I subsequently went out and purchased my own copy. This book is great as a reference. I highly recommend you obtain a copy if you are as mystified by the RCRA regs as most of us are.

Bravo!

A great reference book for those needing to decipher hazardous waste regulatory jargon. I've wasted my money on other so-called interpretive guides, which merely summarized the law. Ho hum. Wagner's book goes much further to explain and decipher the regulations, not just the law. Very helpful!

Defeat of Satan's reign in the jungle

I am an avid reader of both Secular and Christian fiction, and of Christian non-fiction and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I couldn't wait to sit down and read it again. Not only was it written extremely well, but it also keeps your attention because of the shocking way that people of the jungle in Bolivia lived. There are miracles abounding in this book, and I found it a great strength of encouragement in my daily walk with God. You see through this book how satan can reign when there is no real knowledge of God, so thankfully missionary's are willing to risk their lives and the comfort of home to reach these lost tribes!

okay i'm reviewing this w/ an 8 year old's eyes-back when my uncle wrote this book and before he launched himself into his hard core church growth and spritual warfare mode-he wrote this book as a dedicated missionary of the gospel.i have no room any longer for any of the religious nonsense that accompanies my family's lives-however, i very much loved this book as a child and thought my uncle one fine guy.i should probably re-read this book-but, i think it best to let the memories live on.he doesn't need this review to continue writing or selling his books anyway.

This book is really GREAT, but there is hardly any mention of the first users of the airplane, especially the DC-8 section. the rest of the book is very good.

Given the book's size and colorful presentation, at first glance it appears to be a benign coffee table book. But it provides a clear and detailed explanation of the rise and fall of Douglas Aircraft. Guy Norris' enthusiasm for the saga of aviation is infectious. Worthy as both a technical and social history.

Thanks for the book. Quick shipping and the condition was as stated. The title of the book is a little misleading though. This trivia is tough!!! It's nice to be challenged though. We'll ALL (not just kids) enjoy learning some of the more obscure trivia from the Bible.

If only I had a 20-car garage.

The fine point of fins, by car make, are covered in this excellent book. The only problem with reading it and gazing upon all those gorgeous photos and artwork is that it will make up want to run out and buy each and every one of them. My favorites are the Chryslers, Dodges and espesically the DeSotos. Another reason to buy the book is that it's cheaper than building (or renting) a twenty-car garage. Enjoy!

A book with an identity crisis.

Review Date: 2000-01-12
First off, most of the photos in this book are excellent. There are gorgeous pictures of some of the most beautiful cars America has ever produced. Kudos for that. The problem is that the books seems to have an identity crisis. It claims to be a book of the fabulous fins of the Fifties and does feature some of the great finned cars of the decade. If that is the focus of the book, then why include pictures of fin-less cars? And why omit some finned wonders like the '59 Olds with its taillight holding fins or the '59 Pontiac with its double fins holding parking lights? And the '59 Plymouth? The '58 Continental? Some great fins were omitted in favor of some questionable entries. If the book is intended as a survey of general autos of the Fifties, what about the exclusion of some beauties like the '55-'56 Buicks, all the Mercury models, the '58 Ford, and more.

Again, this may be nitpicking. I loved the book as a pictorial of some of the best of the Fifties to be thumbed through but in falls short when one reads the text and wonders at what was included and what was not. Still, it's a great addition to any collection of coffee table books about the greatest decade of cars.

Just Don't Poke Out Your Eye!
Helpful Votes: 14 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-12
I purchased this "Questionnaire" because the price was very reasonable and because I had heard a certain Pentecostal preacher thoroughly bashing the author, C. Peter Wagner! Talk about controversy being good for business! Well, it works for me, anyway!

The point of contention was that C. Peter Wagner, as a non-Pentecostal, does not correctly define the nine "Gifts of the Spirit," (I Corinthians Chapter 12), and therefore his questionnaire must be bogus.

While I personally agree with the Pentecostal definitions of the "Gifts of the Spirit," I'm not prepared to bash Wagner, let alone classify him as a "non-Christian." I bought the Questionnaire to take the test myself, and the results agree with my own prior assessment of my own unique spiritual and ministry "gifts," plus they open my eyes to see such "gifts" in a broader context!

I think the Questionnaire is a good tool to help a person see himself more clearly in light of what the Bible has to say about spiritual and ministry "gifts." Although it would be or might be dangerous to take the results as "Gospel Truth" or "guarantee" of anything, still, we can say the same about almost anything useful. One can poke one's eye out with a toothpick, I suppose!

Therefore I highly recommend this Questionnaire! Just don't poke out your eye!

Accurate guide, but spiritual gift definitions could be more detailed

Used in my church to help members discover God's plan for their lives and how God has equipped them to carry out His plan for their lives. This is a valuable tool for these purposes. Scripture references are appropriate and very helpful. Members report that results are right on target. Gift definitions, however, could be more descriptive.

Good gift ideas
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-06-08
Gift ideas abound in this handy book. As the name implies, the gifts are food related. There are lots of recipes for cookies and breads, spreads, drink mixes, flavored vinegar, and even dog biscuits. Each page features a color photograph with the featured recipes in a gift basket. Most of the gift baskets/presentations are very attractive- a few look "homemade" which is why I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5. The instructions are clear, and just about all of the items are easy to make. A great source for creative gift ideas.

This book has not only good ideas but great recipies

This book has really good ideas on how to give gifts in creative ways. But where the book excells most is in the recipies. There is a recipe in here that is now mandatory at all my parties. Most are simple to make and even more simple to assemble.

Informative, but dry
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-21
This was a very complete history of GMC light truck development over the past 100 years or so. Despite some minor typos here and there, and a couple of grammar issues, everything is very complete. It's unfortunate that there aren't more pictures to illustrate some of the descriptions, but what pictures are there are excellent.

The entire book is pretty much a long description of the production changes in the truck, on a year-by-year basis. As such, it's a bit of a dry read. But it's not pretending to be anything but a reference, so it's not really fair to call it "unexciting". I did learn a lot about GMC's history by reading the book from cover to cover.

There was one blatant error in Chapter 9, on page 102. The GM 6.5 litre diesel engine was NEVER direct-injected. It was always (and still is) an indirect-injected engine, even in non-turbocharged applications. GM did not use direct-injection diesels until the 6.6 litre Duramax was released.

But I've yet to come across a good vehicle reference that didn't have at least one mistake in it, so I won't hold it against the author. That's why I still give the book 4 stars.

Wagner's Jimmy Pick-ups

Review Date: 2007-09-07
The second definitive publication on GMC trucks, Wagner employs the same detail and historical profiles of the smaller trucks as he did earlier with the big ones. As a GMC multiple decade owner, from true Jimmys to badge-engineered Chevies, this book filled a long-standing void with historical and technical detail, year by year and model by model. Like Packard, GMC trucks were not marketed on a model year basis, and few GM historical records exist to help restorers with definitive data. Wagner identifies GMC's long-standing partnership with Pontiac for engines as well as Olds and Buick, and as such, the book is a treasure trove for GMC driveline specifications, bodies and trim. He also extols the GMC V-6, perhaps the finest engine GM ever produced, the last of the low to no maintenance beasts. Two areas not well-covered are: the "art-deco" period from '41-'46, and interiors/dash designs from any era. There is one photo of a 1/2 ton from the "Art-Deco" era, but data is short. This is forgivable given the low volume of light trucks produced, especially compared to sister Chevrolet. Missing entirely are interior cab and dash photos, the zenith of which were probably 1955-1959, to promote the difference and extra cost of interior appointments of Jimmies over Chevies beyond the drivelines. If you have a light Jimmy, want one, or need to know why they were a premium truck, this is your reference book.

Excellent reprint of a good first edition of a great work!!

The reviewer who praised this reprint before my post here has said all that needs to be said in favour of this work!! My only quibbles - and the reason I can't give this edition a full 5 stars - have to do with Schott's fonts and the ordering of their staves in the systems.

[For details, please see my equivalent review for "Siegfried in Full Score", which Dover reprint is from the same first-edition source as this one.]

Nevertheless, warmly recommended!

Twilight of the Gods

This is an immense work of Herculean intensity. At its worst this opera can be a little thick but even the worst music here is beautiful! The scoring is superb, the harmonies rich. This is the only part of The Ring to use a chorus. The first moments of the piece set the tone of apocalyptic drama.

It's a big work but once you get involved in the action (this takes a few seconds at most), the time flies by and before you know it, it is over. It is a great idea to equip oneself with the score for most productions as, unfortunately, there are very few good productions of this ever. It is a complicated score, exhausting and difficult to sing and interpret. A pity, for when Gotterdammerung is done right there are few things as powerful and beautiful in the world.
