Prayer Shield, an underutilized weapon of Spiritual Warfare

Wagner gives an up close and personal glimpse of the front lines from behind the scenes...deep in the trenches with the intercessors where the real battle is waged. Prayer support is just that. Many of the names mentioned in this book you, as a reader, will recognize, even if you've only read a few pieces of Christian literature; this isn't name dropping, but it does give you a new perspective on other literature you may have read. It compliments and builds the body of Christ, and though there is a lighthearted and heartfelt approach voiced; it is anything but lame. It's takes a no nonsense and frank approach. Prayer is a mighty weapon, and Christians of all ages and groups need this kind of intercession. This book is geared to enlist or place a call to the prayer warriors amongst us. Let us all pray for one another and especially our pastors and leaders.

This book focuses on the major urban centers in the 10/40 window. The background and statistical informaton for each city (including unreached peoples) is laid out in easy to read format. A map is also provied for each city and can help one keep the city in perspective. Specific prayer requests are listed for each city. I have found this book to be an excellent companion book to Praying Through the Window III: The Unreached Peoples. Using these books in tandem will not only make your prayer life more focused, but will also give you a deeper appreciation for other peoples around the world.

Tales of classic mishaps in the world of opera, breezily narrated
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-21
Review Date: 2005-10-21
Full disclosure: the author of this book is my dad. If you want to continue reading my review, here's what I'd like to say.
Operas are full of emotionally intense things happening in their plot-lines. It also takes a tremendous degree of professionalism, of various kinds (singing, conducting, directing, etc.) to put them on. As if to break the tension, there are often slip-ups and gaffes. Even better, there are legendary displays of ego and vendetta among the stars. Stories abound.
More than forty years ago, my dad -- who these days is a frequent guest on the intermission features of the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts -- compiled a huge collection of these opera anecdotes, and strung them together with airy, Fielding-esque prose to create this great humor-book about a great profession hard at work.
This book is a cult-classic among those who've heard of it. You're lucky if there's a used copy available. Libraries that stock it usually have a wait-list. Will it be republished, perhaps in an updated form? (After all, opera people can create a lot of classic mischief in forty years!) We'll see; pray about it. In the meantime, buy the existing edition if you can.

An amazing story that deeply strikes the heart

This is the amazing true story of holocaust survivor Joyce Wagner. In "A Promise Kept to Bear Witness" she tells the world of the horrors that hatred can produce. You will be deeply moved from cover to cover, and most likely find yourself reading the entire book in a single night. The unimaginable descriptions of Wagner's imprisonment within the walls of Auschwitz for two years will open your eyes and leave you in awe of the courage of this 18-year girl, the sole survivor of a family of eleven. It is a story that deals with death, but more importantly it is a story of life.

I all want to say in this short review is that this is one of the best (short) collections of fantasy stories out there. Every one of the stories is engaging and continues being so all the way till the end. My favorite by far is "Bully and the Beast" by Orson Scott Card. Beautiful and thought-provoking. Most of the stories have humor worked into them too. I highly recommend this collection

From the opening sentence of the preface, "Practical intelligence is what most people call common sense", the reader knows that they are about to delve into an inherently practical and easily readable book. Even though the text is strongly academic, with almost thirty pages of references, the writers use straightforward language that clearly explains the nature, development, context and role of Practical Intelligence and more specifically, how Practical Intelligence is predicated on TK. They also describe an interesting and intuitively sensible method to develop and apply tools for measuring TK.
For me, the most valuable parts of the book were Chapters 3 & 6. In Ch 3 (The Specificity of Practical Knowledge) the role of TK in practical problem solving is explained, and in Ch 6 (Understanding Practical Intelligence), the characteristics and nature of TK are described in a way that ties together disparate academic views about TK (i.e., it can VS it cannot be explicated). Chapter 7 (Measuring Tacit Knowledge) describes the method for measuring industry specific/contextually relevant tacit knowledge. It will be interesting to see if this method is sufficiently robust to become standardised in future.
My copy arrived in the Monday morning's post, and by Tuesday evening, I had read it from cover to cover, complete with hi-lighting and margin annotations. I strongly recommend this title to anyone who has a practical interest in Tacit Knowledge Management.
