I remember reading this book almost 13 or so years ago, and I remember how much it meant to me then. This is a wonderful story of a boy with a hard life who begins to understand the bad path he is heading down, and his life is turned around by caring for a cat who needs his help.

I first experienced this story as a television film around 1969. It stunned me then, as a child, and I kept it in my heart for decades. Recently I came across a dog-eared copy of the novelization in a used bookstore and was stunned by the grip it still had on me. I am now a teacher and have presented the book to my students. They were similarly enthralled. It transcends generations, ethnicities, and economic barriers. It is a sublimely human story. I am so grateful to Jane Wagner for creating such a fine piece. It teaches so many things in so many ways.

"He's just gone bad, that's all...Stealin' and lyin' and I don't know what all." That's how J.T.'s mother felt. Yet this same J.T. secretly cared for a one-eyed, scrawny, junkyard cat full of cuts, scratches, nicks, and bruises from a recent battle. How could he be both good and bad? Why was he these two types of persons? Find out J.T.'s feelings--they're not too unusual. (A film was made of this book.)

I loved this book as a child and I even remember having a little crush on the boy in the book and film (Kevin Hooks who went on to become a famous actor and director). My parents somehow got a hold of the film (on a reel!) to show at one of my birthday slumber parties in the late 70s. I'm now expecting my first child and can't wait until she's old enough to enjoy the story as well.

I purchased this CD-ROM many years ago, when it first came out, from the Metropolitan Opera House store. At that time it cost $100. I can't tell you how much I have loved and used this CD-ROM over the years. It's an amazing piece of programming - and everything works like a finely tuned clock. I teach the Ring to beginners and advanced opera lovers from time to time and use this to pull down the lietmotifs and learn more about The Ring. Every time I use it I learn something new. It is indeed a course on The Ring in its finest form. I recommend it to anyone who wants to delve deeper in Wagner's Ring to find out what all the fuss is about. A real treasure!

I am very grateful for those who helped create this CD-ROM.
It is an indispensible asset for any musicologist, music student, music teacher, music lover...heck, Wagner Lover!
This forms an extremely vital part of my Wagner discography, it's an important reference I always have on hand when wanting to study the epic Ring Cycle.
Thanks for choosing the Solti version and I guess those of us that were impressed by this are looking forward to further Wagner/Solti CD-ROM's hopefully dedicated to keeping Solti's Wagner legacy alive!

I agree with all the other glowing reviews of the Ring Disc! In 2003, I had the opportunity to perform excerpts from the Ring (I'm an orchestral violinist) but did not know a thing about the opera cycle except for maybe Ride of the Valkyries. Fortunately, my violin teacher owned the Ring Disc which she lent me, and with it I basically gave myself a crash course on the Ring in the space of a week. I really felt that its features helped me begin to understand, in a relatively short period of time, one of classical music's most daunting masterpieces. I now love the Ring and can't wait to attend my first Ring cycle!
Unbelievable product!

As everyone else has already stated, this disc is absolutely amazing. Just getting the entire Solti Ring at this price makes it a bargain. But add in all the essays, the pointing out of the leitmotiffs, the libretto, the running commentary, and all the other features, and this is the kind of deal that you would be crazy to pass up. This disc is, probably, the best and most efficient way to learn everything you need to know about the Ring. Also, if you're worried about compatability, don't be. I have Windows XP, and the disc runs perfectly with no installation or technical hassles. Just put it in and start the experience. If you are at all interested in Wagner's Ring cycle, this disc is perfect!

Three Kane stories, with the first the longest piece. Generally under siege we find the long lived warrior.
Death Angel's Shadow : 1 Reflections for the Winter of My Soul - Karl Edward Wagner
Death Angel's Shadow : 2 Cold Light - Karl Edward Wagner
Death Angel's Shadow : 3 Mirage - Karl Edward Wagner
Kane, trying to shake off pursuers in frozen weather is helped to shelter by a woman.
However, her father's manor will come under assault by a werewolf.
3.5 out of 5
A crusading general:
"For several years he had marched forth against petty tyrants, evil wizards, robber barons, outlaw packs, and monsters human and inhuman. Always he had vanquished evil in the name of good, shackled chaos with law. And now he rode against Kane, a name that had always fascinated him, but which he had half regarded as legendary, until he began to realize the truth that lay in the fantastic tales of this man."
Trapping Kane in a town he knows, with only 9 healthy men left after taking out an ogre stronghold, not the best of ideas.

A vampire woman is a little peeved about Kane's lack of normal human drainability.

The Eerie Quest of KANE - The Mystic Swordsman
A quest that took Kane into forbidden wastelands, and tested his killer skills against the most brutal forces ever summoned against a single man.
Kane faced death duels in strange swamps, assassins' attacks, the heart-freezing terror of the werewolf - and lived to laugh at danger.
But he knew he'd lost his strength, and perhaps his soul, when he entered the erotic web of the vampire...

A great writer involves your mind to such an extent that you lose track of time and space. You no longer are aware of anything around you. Eventually your body rebels from lack of food or sleep, you look up and realize you have to go to work in three hours. Tolkien did that to me, so does Wagner. All the other heros/anti-heros of fiction seem effete by comparison. The Werewolf story in Death Angels Shadow is the best Werewolf story ever. Why no one has made it into a movie is beyond me. I'd love to see Ridley Scott or James Cameron do it.
Nothing else comes close.

Karl Edward Wagner at his bizarre, nightmarish best.
Flat out.
With the possible exception of some of Robert E. Howard's work, dark fantasy just doesn't get any better than the three stories of Kane compiled and presented here.
Hunt all of Wagner's books down, spend the money (these Warner paperbacks are long out of print, and I believe the two recent compilations from Night Shade Books are now fetching outrageous prices) and spend some long, sleepless nights wrapped in devilish glee...

This book was a tremendous encouragement to read, as it championed the role of a man as adventurer and leader. It wonderfully challenges the typical gutless advice of balancing your responsibilities. I've never thought that passion was well served by limiting everything. This book retells the rediscovery of a man's calling with the real and allegorical view of mastering a mountain, not as a loner but as a team leader. The bumpersticker, media, and movie catch phrases are far from timeless, but this is today's challenge.
Reading this book didn't completely negate the wise advice of my mentor, who, when I first arrived at Harvard Medical School, holding up his hand to count fingers would say you could, 1. Be a doctor, 2. Teacher, 3. Professor, 4. Make money or 5. See your family, but you could only have two. In reality it is only in part true that we can have everything, but not all at once. Like Jim Elliot, `Wherever you are, be all there' (pg 26)... you can't be elsewhere.
It is absolutely true that we have to shake off the drive to succeed and take on the call to purpose. What is written on your heart? (pg 20) Can you acknowledge God as its true owner? (pg 26) Will you pursue it to the end, and live a life worthy of that calling [Eph 4:1] (pg 115). I pray, as I'm sure Rich does, that you will ask for the necessary courage, as you face the tasks that only you can do. You are irreplaceably made in God's image, as you.

Contemporary illustrations (ranging from hillarious heights to the depths of serious reflection)mixed together with sound Biblical wisdom on manhood made this book captivating. I loved the adventure theme and excellent quotes from a variety of sources. You can't avoid finding yourself opened for examination at some point in the book. You also can't avoid having your heart returned to your family. I've read multiple books for Christian men and this one is unique. It speaks to men who are trying to do the right thing, know they need to do the right thing, but find it difficult to keep it all together. This book is meant for all men who want to be great husbands, fathers and providers.

I would highly encourage every christian dad to read this book. Many of us lose perspective along the way about what it truly means to be a husband and a father. Rich's book challenges us to re-think career, hobbies, and even ministries in light of the greatest priority and adventure God has placed before us - our family.
Rich's writing style is rich in metaphors and stories that most men will be able to immediately relate to. I loved his use of movie quotes throughout his writing. Yet the most significant and appealing aspect of Wagner's book is that he writes from his own experience.
A timely, refreshing and bold challenge for 21st century christian dads. Highly Recommended.

If your child has OCD, make sure you invest in this book. I purchased several books and this one is hands-down the best no matter what your child's obsessions/compulsions or what stage you are at from first recognizing the disorder to going through the therapy.
As other reviewers have noted, it is easy to read and understand. It is also very complete and includes obsessions/compulsions not covered in other books I have read. It answers questions like "normal vs. OCD: What's the difference" - an important thing for parents to be able to recognize when their child is being themselves and when the OCD monster is affecting them. It also tells you what to expect in the first evaluation, how to navigate CBT (cognitive behavior therapy), and info on medications.
Another very helpful aspect is the school section (I even took the book with me to the teacher conference). It outlines what you should and should not share with the school/teacher and how to approach the whole subject without having your child labeled. It has "Red Flags for OCD in School"- a great thing to share with the teacher. And how to form a partnership with the school to best benefit your child.
All in all, a great and helpful book.

Every parent with a child that has OCD MUST read this book!! The sooner the better! After realizing my son had OCD I jumped on the internet only to feel sad and hopeless for my son's future. Thank goodness for Dr. Wagner's book! I read it cover to cover and put everything she suggested into play immediately!! Her book also gave me hope and made me realize I was a huge part of my son's recovery. Loaded with support, information and facts, this book became my "OCD Bible" and made a huge impact on getting the OCD in control. We had a wonderful therpist but this book is what really helped my son and our family know what to do and how to take control. My son also read her book for children entitled "Up and Down the Worry Hill" and I highly recommend that for your child as well. I now run a support group for parents of children with OCD and this book is #1 on my list. There IS hope and "What to Do When Your Child Has OCD" is crucial in your journey! Thank you Dr. Wagner! You are wonderful!!

This book is very easy to read. It is very comprehensive. It is very informative. It is objective. It is my constant companion lately. My son's therapist admitted that I know much more about OCD than she does and is now reading the book.

A nuanced narrative with gorgeous description, Twain-ish witticisms, intelligent insights, and a cast and core concept that has (to my knowledge) never been done anywhere else. This is a "bizarre" book, yes, but not one that drowns itself in its own weirdness but instead acts like a ship on the sea of fiction possibilities, and therefore offers readers the chance traverse such waters in style. It's as breezy as it is daunting, and in any event a book hard to regret spending time with. Highly recommended for those who enjoy Terry Gilliam films, Seuss and Gorey-esque themes, and a wholly fable sense of logic.

Riggs is the little boy in all of us... afraid of nothing, willing to do almost anything at the drop of a tall stovepipe hat.
Knowing Josh for nearly 2 decades, I wasn't stunned to see this story come from him. I was jubilant. His moment to shine has arrived, and his true place in the world is realized. Anyone can learn how to monkey with a computer, but it takes true genius like his to put pen to paper and end up with a masterpiece.
Periphery Stowe is a challenge to all authors: Don't pander to your audience, but instead teach them. Don't give them what they expect. Instead, give them what they need.
In the end, the world is just as large as the imagination of a little boy.

I recommend this to everyone of all ages and reading levels. I fell in love with this book after the first page. I was amazed with Wagner's writing style. His poetic descriptions make the characters and the world he writes them into come alive. After reading this book I immediately went back to the beginning and started reading it all over again. This is one of those special books I will read and recommend to everyone again and again.

Characters brimming with personality, and locations beyond imagination, it's hard not to get lost in the imagination of Periphery Stowe right along with Riggs.
Though at times showing evidence of being a first novel, it hardly detracts from the beatiful prose and obvious skill the author has for writing.
spread it around to your neighbors, your kids, your neighbors kids, all will enjoy.
I'm just wondering what tricks Wagner has up his sleeve for his next book..

Hi, Suzanne, I hope you are reading this. One Saturday morning, I read the copy Lynds received from you and this book has far more detailed information and more aspects of numerology than I have seen before. I enjoyed how this book defined very well and explained the derivation of numbers for: Soul, Karma, Gift, Path, Destiny, many patterns, Driving force, Dream, True Self, and for Soulmate and Twin Ray Comparison for couples, which we both found positive, accurate and encouraging! It confirmed much we knew and so is amazingly accurate as well as revealing even a more. I highly recommend this book to anyone. Buy it!

"Integral Numerology" is a strong gift to the world - a masterful tool for understanding yourself, and those around you.Suzanne presents a strong foundation in the meaning of numbers, as well as their associations with astrological signs and planets.
Life is made up of patterns, and once we understand those patterns, we can take charge of our own destiny. Suzanne shows us how to determine our personal life pattern, including our Soul number (experiences from a past lifetime), Karmic number (lessons to be learned in this lifetime), Gift number (the gifts and skills we bring with us from previous lifetimes), Path number (the path of this lifetime), Destiny number (the destiny for this lifetime), and Year number (showing wich cycle we are in for the current year).
Suzanne also addresses multiples of numbers appearing in an individual life pattern, how to chart the dynamics of family relationships, the difference between a Soul Mate and a Twin Ray, and so much more!
At the end of the book she has included a section on prominent people and their numerological patterns that is very telling!
"Integral Numerology" is written in a fast paced, reader friendly format. It doesn't take long with this book to see yourself in a whole new light!

I have been a seeker and searcher for most of my life. I have trusted Suzanne with personal readings and guidance for many years. I was very unsure of my own capabilities to understand and decipher Tarot, even though I am a Life Coach, a Certified NLP Practitioner, and study shamanism and quantum physics 'just for fun'! I did not trust my own ability to extract the depth of meaning that is so innate with Suzanne's readings. That has all changed with her new Integral Tarot Meditation CD. It is wonderful to have her voice teach and guide me throughout the process, and to have her depth of experience at my fingertips! I am gaining confidence and understanding each time I listen. Thanks Suzanne, for providing me with 24/7 contact to your knowledge, wisdom and insight as I learn more about tarot!

"Integral" means lines of development and integrating all aspects of our being, among other things. Tarot is often viewed as a prerational form of divination, but Suzanne brings out the architypes of the Tarot that can all help us integrate. Her meditations take us through five different paths of development to help us on our journeys of moving from one stage to the next.
Integral also means heavean and earth are not two. Suzanne helps us navigate our spiritual and material development, placing equal importance on both.
Integral is also about multiple perspectives. Suzanne has included so much wisdom from so many points of view that I found to truly use these CDs as meditations, I needed a remote to hit the pause button after each sentence!
Integral also implies that any experience will be interpreted by the our current level of development. Suzanne clearly understands that to develop transrational, metaphysical gifts and insights, we must learn all we can about our own patterns so we can recognize them when reading others and not project our own experience.
With Suzanne's insight, I now understand the tarot much as the "I Ching": not just a tool for divination, but a map to help orient us on our journey.

In "Integral Tarot Meditation", Suzanne Wagner has gifted the Tarot world with a priceless tool of empowerment. Intended to work with the "Integral Tarot" book, this two CD set takes the Seeker on an incredible journey within themselves, introducing the archetypes of the Tarot as they exist within, and helping the Seeker to integrate their personal archetypes into their whole being.
The essence of each card within the Tarot comes to life in these meditations. The focus is on the Seeker, and how the energy of the Tarot appears in their life, rather than on a card that exists outside of themselves. This promotes two very important things: a healing for the Seeker, as they integrate their internal energy, and a deeper understanding of the cards themselves. Once the Seeker internalizes this energy of the cards, any work done with them will flow freely.
The Seeker is taken through each of the cards of the Tarot: Trumps, Court Cards, and Pips. Through a meditative journey, they meet the archetypes, come to a realization of what their personal relationship is to each of the archetypes, and integrate this energy into themselves in a safe, supportive environment. After the journey with the individual Trumps, Wagner takes the Seeker on a journey that shows how the energy build from card to card. This would be the journey of the Fool, and it is an awesome journey.
These meditations are based on the Thoth Tarot deck. There are some major differences between the Thoth deck and the widely used Rider-Waite deck (i.e. the inclusion of three Magus (Magicians), and a somewhat different titling of the cards), but I feel that the quality of this work stands on its own, and could be used by all Seekers, no matter what their deck of choice.
I have to mention the music - it is so superbly done that it becomes a part of the "safe environment" that Wagner creates for this journey, rather than standing out as "music" on its own. Kudos to Derek Keith, the gentleman responsible for this part of the journey.
This gracious tool of meditation is not a "one time use" tool. Life as we live it is a series of cycles, and part of each cycle is integration of the energies that we are working with. I can see these CD's being used by individuals, by groups, in a client setting, as well as in a formal counseling setting. Wagner has created a knowledgeable foundation for integrating the archetypes of the Tarot, and their wisdom, in a completely safe environment. This CD set is an investment in your own mental health - one that you will not regret.

Each chapter begins with a question: "What is diversity in the workplace?", "How do I begin to improve my understanding of people different from me?", "In today's environment of political correctness, it's too difficult to know what to do. Isn't it easier just to treat everybody the same?" After every heartened answer, she ends the chapter with practical tips.

This book represents a conversational approach to sharing critical information. Common sense steps to digging into our head regarding the value of tolerance and inclusiveness.
