Don't let the title mislead you...

Kenneth Chastain's "Winged History" is far more than the title might lead you to believe. Although it is a very good history of aircraft from early wood/fabric, small horsepower biplanes to the advancements of the Boeing 707 jetliner, it is not told from a "technical" point-of-view, but rather the more "human" side of aviation. The author grew up around airplanes, but did not have a passion for flying like his father did. Even after the death of his mother when he was quite young, the pilot's son was never able to connect with his emotionally distant, frequently absent pilot-father until the last years of his father's life. It's a poignant story about a son re-connecting with his father, an aviator, and how their personal history is inextricably interwoven with the history of aviation.

In Wings Born Out Of Dust, Russ Turner gives the reader an up close exposure to homeless life on the streets of Los Angeles through letters and phone calls to his mother in Texas. From a musical prodigy who worked with the likes of Buddy Rich, Lainie Kazan and Smoky Robinson to the proverbial prodigal, Russ Turner experienced the highs and lows of both ends of the creative spectrum. Time-after-time, he recovered from alcohol addiction only to yield repeatedly to the lure of the streets. Was it alcohol? Was it low self-esteem? Was it genius gone mad? Or was it a condition of man that has yet to be logically explained? How does a mom survive the endless mental torture of failed promise? A must read for anyone interested in the human psyche.

Fighter Planes' Unique Role in Aviation

"Wings That Stay On" is a well written book about the history of aircraft fighter planes and the role they have played in all of the military conflicts that have taken place since the first World War. Col. Coggins has researched and presented the reader with his assessment of how the fighter plane has been a major factor in the outcome of wars, and how they will affect our future as well. His knowledge and background has been revealed in the way he has presented this subject so that even a non pilot can understand the technical and professional side of flight. He covers every military engagement with logical observations and interesting and provocative conclusions. He has made a strong case for the next decade of the 21st century by strongly promoting the F-22 Fighter for the United States. His writing has a style that keeps the reader interested in history by including reflections on the people who have been part of the development. He describes some of his missions as a way to highlight this dangerous profession. I am sure that pilots and non-pilots will like this book. It is well documented with photographs of every type of fighter plane. The author has seen a need to present this material so that the readers will have gained insight into what may not have been obvious. They will also be rewarded by taking the time to understand and reflect on the book. As a witness to most of these military engagements, as an interested non-pilot, I can now relate to them much better: how they started, when the conditions and results changed, and some of the factors that determined the outcome. Col. Coggins has presented his subject in a way that is unique to the world of aviation.

This is a good book about autocross - brief, concise, truthful and accurate. Great deal of attention throughout the book is paid to suspension behavior, weight distribution and the smoothness of the driver's movement. What I liked most in the book is the advise to use left-foot-braking during the transition from braking to acceleration and vice versa. This helps to avoid excessive suspension fluctuation and provides slow, smooth weight transfer. It is good to use this technique for RWD cars and even better for FWD cars. The author gives an exercise:
"Accelerate to thirty mph. As you reach the point where you wish to brake, start to apply braking pressure with your left foot, and at the same time, lift your right foot slowly off the accelerator Increase your braking pressure to reach ten mile per hour at the pylon. As you pass the pylon at then mph, reapply accelerator pressure, and start releasing braking pressure."
The author states that the tire is the most important part of the car. I agree with that, and recommend you to read "Racing & High Performance Tire" by Paul Haney.
In addition to this book I recommend the "Secrets of Solo Racing" by Henry Watts.

This book is a great addition to anyones graphic novel collection. It contains issues 8 to 16 from the popular witchblade comic book series (top cow). The artwork looks great. The writing is good. The story picks up after Sarahs first major battle with keneth irons. For anyone who just started collecting the witchblade comicbook series and want to get their hands on previous hard to find issues i would recomend this collected edition.

Without a Clue will leave you with many many clues of inspiration, motivation, and caring for the author's struggles.I highly recommend Without A Clue. Once you start reading the book, it is hard to put down. The story flows at an exciting pace. It will open your eyes to the similar hardships and struggles that you are going through during your journey through life. Most importantly for me in reading Without a Clue, showed me how important it is to have determination and Faith in God. Without the author's strong determination in her faith, and her family and friendship support, I believe that she would not have survived the devastating and eventually life altering events that came crasing upon her. The author explains in her book how she was not able to walk, or even feed herself over seven years ago. On July 19,2008 the author, Bridget Turner walked 4.5 miles sponsored by her church. The proceeds will benefit the Lupus foundation of America. I am anxiously awaiting a sequel to Without a Clue.

Rachel Fortune inherits her grandmothers planes and helicopter and Rachel intends to put them to good use. She is a pilot and she loves her job. She is good at what she does and she is just as stubborn and pigheaded as her grandmother Kate. Rachel needs an airstrip and after at first being told no, Dr. Lucas Greywolf finally gives in and agrees to lease her the airstrip that he owns. Lucas thinks Rachel is a rich princess type that has never done a hard days work. Lucas is constantly suprised by the things that Rachel does, and slowly he must admit that he was wrong about her. Unfortunately, after one day trapped on a mountain they end up in each others arms and as a result Rachel is now pregnant. So many obstacles of their own doing stand in the way of them being happy. A near tragedy may be the key to bringing them together.
Again, another Fortunes Children series book that I have enjoyed. Rachel reminds me a lot of Kate. I can not wait to read about Adam next.
