Hadrian Kartar has left society behind. Now a Master, he is free to live his D/s lifestyle as he sees fit without civilization encroaching upon him. He craves his red-haired, virgin, submissive slave, Amaya with everything he is and is in a constant state of arousal. However, lusting for and craving Amaya is all Hadrian is willing to do until he is ready to be in a committed relationship...for Hadrian's only weakness is the fear of a D/s relationship failing. And that is not acceptable to him.

Amaya wants to be the perfect submissive for her Master, Hadrian, only he seems angry with her all the time. She craves his touch and doesn't understand why Hadrian refuses to be with her. Amaya knows he wants her, even when Hadrian uses discipline and punishment. When Hadrian acquires a new slave, Amaya has finally had enough...Hadrian doesn't stand a chance against her seduction.

A Slave to the Heart is the first book I have read by Shelly Turner and it sure does pack a punch! While the book length may be short, it is well written with tasteful punishment and discipline scenes. I felt the yearning in Hadrian for Amaya and very much wished that he would act upon this yearning. As for Amaya, her love for Hadrian was like a gentle, flowing rain, soft and accepting; something that I would have had an extremely hard time doing.

I enjoyed A Slave to the Heart and feel that other readers who enjoy reading about D/s relationships will as well. I look forward to finding and reading more from Shelly Turner.

Absolutely the best resource on equity
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-20
Snell's Equity is not only the best introduction for a law student to the principles of equity - it is also the most comprehensive resource for the practitioner or academic. The versatility of this text, and in particular its service as both a coherent, basic introduction and as an imposing authority on all aspects of equity, is principally due to the lucid prose and sensible organization imposed by the author of the 23rd through 27th editions, Sir Robert Megarry (co-author with P.V. Baker on the 24th through 27th eds), and which has been (largely) sensibly maintained by subsequent authors. As a student, lawyer and law professor, I have found it indispensable. Its sole drawback is that it cites, almost exclusively, English case authorities and English statutes. While the English case authorities (but not the statutes) are useful references in other Commonwealth jurisdictions such as Canada, Australia or New Zealand, neither those authorities nor the statutes will be of much help to those searching for U.S. law. The underlying principles of equity, however, apply with equal vitality throughout the common law world, and for this reason this text should be at the very least a helpful resource to American jurists.

The Early Social Structure of Islam

Review Date: 2006-06-24
The Social Structure of Islam. Prof. Reuben Levy. Cambridge University Press. 1957, reprints: 1962, 1965, 1969. 536 pgs. [The 1957 edition is a significant revision of the original 2-vol work titled: The Sociology of Islam, printed in 1931 (vol. 1) and 1933 (vol. 2)]. Contents: Chpt 1: The grades of society in Islam (mawali, ashraf, transoxiana, slavery, islamic fraternities). 2: The status of women in Islam heris, duties, plurality, legal age, wali, mut'a marriages, veiling, saints) . 3: The status of the child in Islam guardianship, adoption). 4: Islamic jurisprudence (Koran, ra'y supplements, qiyas supplements, hadith, al-Shafi, fiqh, the four Madhhabs). V: Moral sentiments in Islam (faith, conduct, commandments, lying, evil, responsibility, good v evil, Sufi, Ghazali, Greek ethics, adab, the ideal and expedient,). 6: Usage, custom and secular law under Islam (sunna, sharia, urf, ada, zakat, taxes, dhimmis, qadi). 7: The caliphate and the central government (umma, khalifah, Kharijis, Shia imams, coinage reform, the treasury, spoils of war, revenues in 780-810 by province, public expenditures, stipends, vizier). 8: Government in the provinces of the caliphate and in the succession states. 9: Military organization in Islam. 10: Islamic cosmology and other sciences. As a compliment to Levy, it seems that many books written about Islam today are mere rewrites of this book. Regarding Islam in 1950, Levy wrote: "Islam is at a standstill in the western world.... Political considerations apart, it would seem that the creed of Muhammad the Prophet is not suited to peoples reared in the Greek and Roman traditions and codes.... In (Southeast) Asia...the rigidity of the Islamic code is in its favour as conductive to simplicity, and it is there that the strongholds of Islam must be sought, amongst people either not given to speculation or else content to regard fulfillment of ritual as an end in itself." (39) "It is still further in the favour of Islam that it does not endeavour to alienate the convert from his tribal relationships, and it preserves -- even...enhances-- his social status. Amongst other advantages it may sometimes secure him immunity from slavery." (52) As noted in a Pakistani newspaper review: this book "is a monumental and, perhaps, the only exhaustive work on the subject which students of sociology, ethnology and comparative religion can hardly afford to miss. For students of Islamic history and civilization, it is indispensable." Very informative, with nice, tight writing; fine analysis with little moralizing. The author was emeritus Professor of Persian at the University of Cambridge, England.

An excellent book on practices, culture, habit, and so on.

This is an excellent book addressing an area that I feel has been addressed quite poorly within much of academia. He takes up the threads of a number of divergent thinkers and considers how practices, traditions and so on come into being.

the book is written for an academic audience but is very readable.

So very often I have wished for more than that which is suplied by a travel guide.

'Southern Africa Profiled' is full of essential information like where bus stations are located and interesting places to visit. But it is also packed with information which travel guides often neglect to include and gives one a true understanding of the area.

The book is not a substitute for a good travel guide. I would, however, recommend that a serious traveller to Southern Africa would benefit from buying this book. It certainly enhanced my experience of South Africa and Swaziland.

I really enjoyed reading this book with my daughter. It was well written and great for children, who have encountered situations where other kids have made fun of them. The questions and puzzles at the end of the story are also excellent follow up tools for reviewing the story. I would strongly recommend it to any one with a child between the age of 4 and 9.
