A lesson on Idaho

It's more than just potatoes. Idaho has a lot going for it, and this book will show you and your students what.

The "Portrait of America" series is a sensational and easy to understand introduction for pre-teens to the 50 states and to the places and events that shaped the history of the United States. This "Idaho" installment is very good. The book is broken down into sections like "History", "Culture", "Economy" etc., and each section is thoughtfully written and edited.

This book, as well as the entire "Portrait of America" series, will prove to be a valuable teaching tool to all primary school educators

When soul musician Ike Turner was nineteen, his band traveled to Memphis and predated Chuck Berry's auto songs with the winning Rocket 88. His musical achievements and life sky-rocketed afterwards, and John Collins tracks Turner's evolution and achievement in his fine biography Ike Turner: King Of Rhythm. Myths are considered and realities profiled in an excellent presentation.

The book will be an answer to those who are looking for some reasons why such kind of phenomenona, like pilgrimages are still observed in the modern world. Victor Turner repeatedly talks of signifiers and signified and in the book his focus is very much on Marian devotion.

When opportunity knocked, Abbie answered pronto! Free-lance journalist Abbie Kincaid aimed to ferret out the publicity-shy Oklahoma inventor, Mal Garrett. Then she overheard the elusive Mal mention he needed a long-distance test driver-with himself as passenger. Setting Mal up for her scoop, Abbie impulsively volunteered. And she got the job, unaware that Mal counted on her to win an important bet-against Roxanne, the woman who had double-crossed him years before. Grudgingly, Abbie found herself captivated by Mal's rugged charms. But he had already been badly hurt once...and now she, too, was betraying his trust.

GOOD, SOLID READ FOR FATHERS

Review Date: 2005-06-18
Im My Father's Steps is a superb collection of heart-felt stories about fathers and sons. In none of the stories is the relationship between fathers and sons perfect. One story relates to a father dragging his heels in getting home from a business trip, even though his son has let him know his wife is probably dying. Another story is about a father taking care of his father, during the last few days of his life, with a heart-warming display of love at the last. These stories at time, made me laugh, other times, affected me deeply, forcing me to reflect on my relationship with my father, and also my son. I, too, now cherish the relationship with my father differently. One cannot read these stories and not be affected.

This comforting book is a masterpiece in all respects. Salley Mavor's glorious three-dimensional storyboards will have special appeal to cloth doll makers, embroiderers, textile artists and people of color. The simplicity of Ann Turner's haiku-like text truly warms the weary heart.

Unlocking the Secrets Within O. Turner's "Phelps & Gorham's Purchase"

An excellent, but rare, index of both the 1851 and 1852 editions of Orsamus Turner's landmark history of the 1788 Phelps & Gorham's Purchase region of western New York State. Actually, three separate indexes: topical (places and events), name, and chronological (1535-1851). Also includes 1790 Township and Range map [and table of townships with current town names and page references to text] with a see-through overlay of the "Genesee Country", showing associated tracts to the west [the Morris Reserve, the Connecticut Tract, The Triangle, Mill Yard Tract], Old and New Preemption Lines, and current county boundaries. A wealth of information for historians and genealogists!

A Great Book on a Fascinating Area
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2003-11-08
This book is, despite being a bit dated now, far more thoroughly researched than most other LP guides. It is well worth having on a trip to Nusa Tenggara, even if you already have the general Indonesia guide (whose coverage of this region is far less extensive).
If only all LP guides were written by this author!
A word of warning though: despite the title, this book DOES NOT cover most of Indonesia's eastern islands, only the smaller region of Nusa Tenggara or Southeastern Islands.

terrific, and ongoing introduction into this important area
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2003-04-17
The information presented in this book, is like its style and presentation, simple, immediately accessible and implementable.

The book may not apply to highly trained and experienced web designers, but will serve as a terrific information source for non-ICT people that need to get an immediate grasp of the key concepts, the terminology, the possible applications and ultimately in implementing the strategies and ideas.

This is a terrific, and ongoing introduction into this important area of website marketing.
