As a fellow former Marine I found this to be a facinating book. Jerry and Jack recorded the first hand accounts of the battles
and day to day lives of the men who manned the 9 flame tanks used in the Korean War. They have many facinating stories such
as trying to get Luke the Gook routed from his ridge and then attempting to back down an icy and snow covered road after using
their napalm and explosive rounds on the target. As often happens in combat and the field, things go wrong, the tank slides
down the hill only to be caught by a tree. It takes several days to get the tank out and not only do they have to deal with
the weather and terrain, but an enemy dropping hundreds of mortar rounds on their recovery operation.
It is one thing to be shot during battle, but the Flame Platoon instilled the fear of being burned alive.

In the 1920's Florida was successful at marketing itself as the place to vacation away from the winter snow. Transportation
in those days was by train, and Florida had three major lines: The Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard Air Line, and the Florida
East Coast.
This book, one of a series from the same publisher, is part history, and part memories. The memories come from a huge collection of photographs, menus, advertisements, maps and other things from the time and the railroads. This is a beautiful collection that makes you wonder where they could have found so many relevent pictures.
Florida rail played an important part of the history of rail in the 1920's. They were extremely active in promoting Florida, establishing a custom that continues today. In fact, Amtrak still operates train service to Miami over some of the same routes depicted in this book.
Recommended to rail buffs and Florida historians.

Radnoti was one of the great twentieth century poets. This would be true even if his story was not one of great poignancy
and sadness. He wrote his last poems on a forced march during the Shoah (Holocaust) and ended his life shot into a mass grave
with those final, brilliant poems in his pocket. They were discovered when he was exhumed and reburied after the war. These
translations capture his music in English. I have found them to be indispensable to me. Besides their great beauty, they say
something important about the human spirit. This man defined himself as a poet and refused to let others define him, in the
worst possible circumstances. This is an inspiration to us all.

This, along with Eyewitness Travel, was absolutely the best NYC tour book I found. Lots and lots of glossy color photos,
plus great information about one of the greatest cities on Earth. Plenty of handy maps, including subway info. Nice historical
tidbits as well. I still enjoy flipping through this book and remembering a fun trip.

I have used this "Treasure of A Book" for the last 20 years, when I first found a copy of it in my town's local library when
I was 19 years of age. It has been especially useful while I went and after I graduated from Fashion Design School in Los
Angeles. It has been an invaluable reference book, whenever I needed to find an ethic costume. For example, if I want
to draw a Korean women in original costume dress. I just look under the country, alphabetically and there it is. I can
easily see the traditional dress and sketch it. All the illustrations are excellent and show very good detail. The book
does a very good job of representing many different ethic costumes of the world, even ones in countries that no longer exist.
Many of the ethic costume designs are still used to this day in the countries that they come from. I have used it to draw
illustrations showing different children from around the world. Also, I have used it for other kinds purposes including
graphic design illustrations for restaurant menus and restaurant ads. I have returned to this book, over and over, as the
best resource for all my needs. Even though, it was published in 1977, I still to this day find it the very best book of
its kind.

This is the most incredible book for young people who would be inspired by the strength of notable African Americans. Not
only that but it is a great book for children who want to learn about careers and what is involved in the career and how you
can do it when the odds are against you. Besides, it is a great read.

An account of the edible wild plants used by the Interior Native Americans of British Columbia as well as some of their history
and culture. It covers some general harvesting, preparation, seasonal plant use and detailed accounts of specific plants which
have a brief description, habitat, distribution in B.C., and "Indian" use. Although the plants covered are for a particular
area the information contained is invaluable for the serious forager. Because you soon realize that this information can be
utilized for species in the same genera found in the eastern U.S. (i.e. Lilium, Pinus, Prunus, Vaccinium) and collection/preparation
techniques may be applicable to other plants. Covers lichens, mushrooms & fungi, confiers, mono & dicots. Lots of color pictures,
4 appendicies: sporadically used plants by interior people, plants of limited use by interior people, non-native food plants
and poisonous or inedible plants. Note that some plant species are repeated in Part 2 from Part 1. Still a great reference
book for the gatherer of wild edibles!

Nancy Turner's coverage of food plants in her area is amazing. In this new edition, the photos are splendid and really aid
in identifying the plants. She has found out about the plants from the people who have used them extensively. One of my
favorite wild edible plant books!
