SUPERB BOOK ON THE FIRST HAMMER DRACULA !!!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-16
This is a great book! Anyone interested in Dracula/ Hammer horror/ Christopher Lee must read this fascinating critique of the first Hammer horror Dracula film (titled simply "DRACULA" in the UK, "HORROR OF DRACULA" in the US). The serious, in-depth analysis of the film was so fascinating I read the book through in one sitting. Granted, it is a slim, 100 page volume, but it is a thoroughly interesting and very compelling read. Finally, serious film historians are taking a second look at these fine old Hammer films, and seeing that they are much better than critics originally thought. It is a volume no true Hammer fan can do without! I kid you not!!! -George Bauch.

A lost Dragon learns how to get back home.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1997-07-14
A long lost manuscript turns up in an old chest and tells the warm and funny story of a dragon's adventure on an island.
The bright colors and humor are sure to delight the mature reader as well as the listening child.

The author is a middle aged child, who played in the rock 'n roll world, and now lives in a small Georgia town, working as a chiropractor.

A mish mash of techniques. A great reference book for sketching. Grab your sketchbook, a 314 pencil (or any pen or pencil) and copy the techniques you see in the book. You'll use them later in your own sketches. Many lessons, much advice. I found it in a bookstore that sells used books (Half-Priced Books). It is really wonderful.

The perfect gift for a ne'er-do-well son
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-09-20
I'll be frank. My youngest son looked downright unemployable for a while. At thirty years-old he still lived in our rumpus room, watched endless re-runs of Barney Miller, and did little more than complain about the government in our breakfast nook. When my wife bought DRIVING A SCHOOL BUS for his 31st birthday, I worried that he would be insulted; but he read the book, appeared to understand much of it; and has since landed himself a job driving a route in the South Dakota school system. I hear that the kids love him. The pay isn't good, but he's happy, and he gets summers off to "work on his screenplay". Thank you, R.H. Turner. We can use our basement again--though it still has to air out for a while.

"This book is edited, and significantly contributed to, by two senior members of the staff of The Dyslexia Institute (D.I.)... The work of the D.I. over many years represents an important corpus of practical involvement in identifying and alleviating the varied difficulties experienced by individuals deemed to be dyslexic. The scope of the book and its intended audience are clearly indicated by its title...In this book, one finds many promising practices clearly described. The editors are to be congratulated for undertaking such a difficult but valuable task in what continues to be a controversial field...Townsend's and Turner's book merits the critical attention of educators in general and teachers in particular. It can help those interested and involved in finding, using and developing effective practices for pupils with dyslexia: its use can help in providing some of the expertise required if our schools are to become more "Dyslexia friendly'."

This is a great book for collectors of Scientific Instruments.
In the back of the book it has all famous makers names alphabetically listed and the dates they manufactured items and what they manufactured from the 1400's to 1800's.This book has World Globes,Telescopes,Navigational Instruments,Land Surveying instruments,Microscopes,Sundial's,Compass's and many more items.
It has great color and Black and white photo's throughout the book also. The Index to makers in the back of the book alone makes the book worth buying to the collector of these types of instruments. The book gives history on all of the item's it shows throughout the book. It has 320 pages and published by one of the largest antique auction houses in the world.

Best book on edible weeds in my library
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1998-06-30
The format of this little book lets you carry it in your pocket easily. It is well organized and the illustrations make the plants easy to recognize. Only the best-known weeds are reviewed and most of them can be found all over the world. I would therefore recomment this book non-Canadians as well.

Every plant is covered under the following headings:

All the names, Latin & common
How to Recognize
Where to Find
How to Use
Suggested Recipes
More of Interest

I would also like to point out that Nancy Turner is the co-author.

In Canada, this title can be found in every public library.

All of the books written by Blaine and Lisa Ray are great. I have them used them with students from middle school to adults and they're an excellent tool. The price that they are sold at [..]. I would buy them there.
