Best Sociology Dictionary I've Found...

I've used other sociology dictionaries - even bought the Blackwell Dictionary of Sociology and while that one is helpful, the Cambridge Dictionary of Sociology is more thorough and easier to read and find entries. No dictionary is going to have absolutely everything you need - such is the joy of being able to buy multiple books! But for any serious sociology student or those who have an interest, the Cambridge Dictionary of Sociology is a must have for your bookshelf.

Excellent Compilation of Jose A. Jimenez Songs

I've had this book for some time and it is excellent! Not only does it contain all of the songs he composed, but also many pictures along with a brief story of his life and how the songs came about. A treasure for any J.A.Jimenez fan. The mold was broken the day he was born and our loss the day that he died, but oh what a gift he left us to enjoy for years thereafter.

I am on an RCIA team and am learning about the RCIA as I go along. This answered so many questions that no one else has been able to answer for me. I didn't get answers like this from my pastor or from my DRE or from the Beginnings and Beyond (religious formation by osmosis) weekend.

Great book.

In 1923, The Pinkerton Agency based in London is hired by the Nazi Party to find the person responsible for trying to assassinate Adolph Hitler in Tiergarten Park. He was meeting with General Von Secit hoping that he could convince Von Secit to allow Hitler to have a Putch without the army interfering. While the men are talking, a shot rings out and a gun is found but there is no trace of the assassin.

English agent Jane Turner and American agent Phil Beaumont travel to Berlin where they discover that only eight people, all trusted aides of Hitler, knew about the meeting. The Nazi's want to blame the communists who control part of Germany but the Pinkerton agents believe that the assassin either was one of the eight people or that one of them talked to somebody who then acted on the information. Jane and Phil spend most of their time questioning the eight men but as they get closer to the truth, the octet closes ranks and tries to kill the Pinkerton Agents who the Nazis know detest their war-mongering, hate spewing agenda.

Germany in 1923 is a country on the verge of bankruptcy with beggars living on the streets and men, women and youngsters selling their bodies to get a meal. Walter Satterthwait shows why it was so easy for Hitler to rise to power because he gave the people hope that if they band together and take care of the Bolsheviks and the Jewish "Problems", Germany can because a powerful country again. CAVALCADE is an investigate thriller that shows how hate can fester under certain conditions allow atrocities to occur. This is a very exciting and intriguing reading experience.

Fear of Change

When I purchased this book it was because of fear of change. How empowering to know that I can move on and step past the fear. It is gratifying to know someone so seemingly great and strong had hard times too. I celebrate the fact that she had pain, because without it this woman could not minister in the way she does in her work. If you are facing change this is a must read. Awesome! Absolutely Awesome. I bought 3 copies for friends.

This book as well as the others in the series really helped me pass my exams.

The material is well written, the exercises are thought provoking and really stimulate your thinking bringing back your learnings to mind.

Of all the things I purchased - CD's, On line tutorials and exercises, this is the best book for the CPS and CAP exam.

You really don't need anything else.

Fabulous preview and memory of golfing in Scotland !

I am sad that this book is out of print. Golf is increasing in popularity and more golfers are making the pilgramage to the great Scottish courses. This book was a wonderful way to get acquainted with the history, traditions, and methods of playing Turnberry, Carnoustie, Troon, Muirfield, Gleneagles, and of course, St. Andrews before ever setting foot onthe old sod. I am afraid I am wearing out my only copy

Tuner and Crawford provide an easily read summary of the key characteristics of successful change organisations. After extensive studies of corporations undergoing change, they have identified the key capabilities required to change. They provide useful models around this concept which are easily adopted. Lots of case study examples also provide easy reference and "trips for young players"!

Just comparing photos taken decades apart, these authors lay bare the extent of transformation in Arizona's countryside over the past century. The cool-weather plants retreat northward and up the hillsides. The desert plants move in like a tide from Mexico. It's a merger of good science with viscerally clear communication.

A Woman Beyond her Time!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-08
Charlotte Smith was a Romantic poet who influenced William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. She had 12 children, 3 died, and she raised the other 9 by herself. Her husband was a womanizer of the worst kind who landed the whole family in debtors' prison. None of that matters in the end because she wrote poetry and novels in order to support herself and her children. The poetry she left behind is beautiful, especially her elegaic sonnets, and her novels can still be found and read today.

Fletcher does a wonderful job bringing Smith's personality to life in this biography. Although I had read much of Smith's works before reading this biography, I felt I understood Charlotte Smith so much better after reading this biography.

Although this biography is written by a scholar, it is very readable and engaging. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to understand more about Charlotte Smith, her life, the time in which she lived, and how and why she is considered the first of the great Romantic poets. There are many explications in this book of her poetry which sheds even more light on Smith.
