Tribes book for Werewolf gameReview Date: 2008-06-20
Its not heavy on crunchy rules, but it is definitely filled with lots of background on how the tribes operate, behave and view their world and the spirit and supernatural worlds.
Splat Book for All Five TribesReview Date: 2008-05-24
Pretty much, you get exactly what you would expect - a supplement covering each of the five Tribes of the Moon (the Ghost Wolves, or Tribeless, are understandably not covered in this book). Each chapter delves into the history and culture of one of the five Tribes, telling of legendary heroes, epic battles and dark secrets. Recruitment, initiation, naming convetions views on Renown and Auspice roles and so forth are all included as well, giving the chapters both 'in character' and 'out of character' points of view. Most importantly, we also get some information on each Tribe's ban as well. And at the end of each chapter, we are also given several NPCs to use as we see fit. The end result is that this book winds up becoming an excellent supplement for Storytellers and players alike, chock full of useful plot hooks, story ideas and regional variations to keep any Werewolf fans happy for a very long time indeed.
But aside from the fluff, what else does this book offer? 'Crunch,' and alot of it. Each chapter focuses on a particular Tribe, as I said before, so you wind up getting all manner of cool, Tribal-specific Merits (including a couple fighting styles), Rites, Fetishes, Talens and... the new 'Milestone' Gifts, epic Gifts that are only given to those who go out of their way to embody their Tribe's ideals, given by their patron Totem itself (ie, at Storyteller discretion). While cool, these powers are not overpowering either, making them quite appropriate for the levels we've seen thus far in Werewolf. Oh, and new Lodges too. Lots of them. Like the Lodge of the Shield (a fraternity of Blood Talon cops) and Lodge of the Hundred Days (Bone Shadows cleaning up after the genocide in Rwanda). Again, this presents lots more options for players and Storytellers alike.
So while there is nothing 'earth shaking' or gameline changing revealed in this book, it is still an essential supplement for any Werewolf game. Alongside 'The Rage' and the corebook, it will give players all kinds of options for customizing their characters, as well as adding depth and intensity to any existing games. I strongly recommend anyone interested in Werewolf, whether as a player or an ST, pick up this book and check out the cool new stuff your favorite Tribe(s) got. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Touch Their HeartsReview Date: 2002-12-11
I don't mock this book, 101 Ways to Tell Your Child 'I Love You' because it is pretty handy. (I put myself in the second category, those who need to practice spontaneity). Neither do I make fun who might find the book useful because we could all use a new idea occasionally. I suspect there are many people who don't need this advice on a day-to-day basis, though may occasionally just be stumped for a new idea, but for the rest of us, the book offers its promised 101 tips of sending an unmistakable message of love to a child (and could be adapted for grown-up children, I think.)
Aside from the good ideas, the major strength of this book is that it doesn't lecture but instead delivers ideas in very short doses, one or two sentences at the most, an idea per page, with easy-to-do suggestions. Some require a little more effort than others, such as preparing "coupons" for a hug or a kiss, but most are extremely easy to do, and require only a moment or two of time, and the desire to show love.
There is something for everyone here, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, stay-at-homes or career parents, or anyone who wants to deliver the message to a child. Not every idea will be of interest to every person, but even a handful of them, tried occasionally or often, will help a child get the word.
Here are just a few:
See how many words you and your child can make from the letters I-L-O-V-E-Y-O-U.
Leave surprise love notes in unexpected places, such as the bathroom mirror or the front door.
Mail a letter or a card to your child, even if you haven't gone away. Getting mail is a special event for children.
Go for a walk in the moonlight, or in a new snowfall or even a warm summer rain.
Make a heartshaped I LOVE YOU puzzle. Write your message of love on the cardboard and then cut it into pieces so your child can put it back together.
Wake your child with a kiss.
Let your child "accidentally" overhear you singing their praises to others. (My daughter pretends to object to this, claiming she hates it when parents talk about their children with other parents, but, luckily for me, I see the secret smile of pleasure.)
And, the clincher: Make a will naming a guardian or executor. It is the most loving and thoughtful thing you can do for a child.
I've personally tried many of these, and found them hugely helpful when just a simple "I love you" isn't enough. Some I'd actually thought of myself!!--such as making up a simple song featuring her name or going for a walk in the rain or moonlight.
She quickly caught on to one little ritual I started, which was to list two or three or four things I loved about her, or that she had done especially well, each night as I tucked her in. Very soon my list was interrupted with, "And what else?" "And what else?"
Kids love love is the message I take from that. It's so simple. Offer this book to anyone who has, or once was, a child.

Great resource for actorsReview Date: 2007-03-03
What Rudnicki does for actors is make the classics accessible to modern actors. He categorizes by period and genre (Greek Drama [The Golden Age], the Age of Shakespeare [and his friends], and the Age of Style [Restoration and 18th Century English monologues]) and divides into male and female monologues, as well as drama, comedy, tragedy, heroic, parody, etc., AND THEN, not only does he give short synopses of each play and play background, but short historical introductions to the periods. And finally, the selections themselves are superb. They plumb every human emotion -- but Rudnicki has made these so accessible, he has used excellent translations for the Greeks and put line breaks into each monologue in such a natural way that every one of them feels more real, contemporary, and accessible.
The translations from the Greek are by Barton and Cavandar, who themselves contributed greatly by developing their own versions (not just translations, but interpretations) over a period of time, working with an ensemble group of dedicated actors. They are exquisite -- and feel like true words spoken not thousands of years ago, but now, today, about our lives here.
Many acting students are afraid of the classics -- afraid of the Greeks or Shakespeare. Rudnicki's book should remove any fears students may have -- and for new and seasoned actors, will provide a wealth of material to use for auditions.
Along with Ginger Friedman's book "The Perfect Monologue," I use Rudnicki's work to help students learn how to identify what I call "universal drives." (See my book "Archetypes for Writers: Using the Power of Your Subconscious," availabe here on Amazon.)
