Travis McGee is not your average gumshoe. He doesn't have an office or a secretary. He lives on a houseboat called the Busted Flush which he won in a poker game. He drives an old Rolls Royce that somebody cut in half and turned into a pick-up truck.And the only time he works is when he needs money for his on again, off again retirement. He has a unique philosophy. He wants to remain as anonomous as possible and be retired as much as possible.When he needs money he looks for somebody who has lost something of considerable value and makes them a deal. If he can recover it he gets half it's value. The idea being: Half of something is better than half of nothing. "Darker than Amber" is the first book in the series and they only get better and better as they go along. I highly recommend the whole series if you like off-beat characters and unique plots.

An early Patricia Sprinkle. Her characters are well developed, the plot well planned and the research extensive. Because she writes of the South, I am aware of the geography. These books are fun reads because they have a story and yet you can put it down and pick it up later and wont have to go back and find out 'where you were.'

This book is a great start for someone researching environmental toxins from a psychological perspective. It points you to the key academic journals and the subject headings provide you with keywords to search PsychLit or PsychInfo. A great reference material for someone studying psychology, sociology, or the environment.

This is a great author debut. Simply told, this book warns the U.S. of our imperialist tendencies and that we are not immune to the greed of others. This book offers ideas to readers, which will expand their thinking on the subject of patriotism and the dangers it can create. Support this author.....by the book....share it with others!!!

I loved this poetry book, I first started reading poetry 4 years ago, and ever since then I have been looking for contemporary poets, books that in 20 years I can look back on and know were a part of my life, my history, going down in history. I recommmend the poem on page 11. It is my favorite poem in the book.

This book was a pleasure to read, with numerous examples of how to conduct yourself so that people, well, listen. Hamlin draws on her experience as a trial lawyer's consultant and in television, breaking down the communication process into an examination of the motivations of the participants.

Take away only a few tips from this book, and you are bound to get better responses from anyone you talk with - by phone, by email, in person.

The only downside to the book is that as it was written in 1988 there is no mention of Internet communications. Examples and tips specific to email, instant messaging, voice over IP, etc., would have been helpful, but it's easy enough to extend the ideas and lessons to pretty much any medium.

This book is a wonderful look at how we should be guided in our lives by our principles. It makes you think about what what you do in your life and why you do it, and teaches you to do what you love and find joy.

BOOK GIVES NAMES AND DETAILS OF WIVES, HOME ADDRESSES, WORK HISTORY OF MERLE AND A DEEP INNER REFLECTION OF THIS GIANT OF GUITAR HISTORY. EXCELLENT VIEW FROM HIS DAUGHTER WHEN COMPARED TO THE PUBLIC IMAGE AS PERCEIVED FROM HIS FOLLOWERS. I WANT TO OWN MY OWN REFERENCE COPY.

Gerdt's first attempt at fiction on a grand scale was a respectable effort that I hope he will follow up on. Like J. K. Rowling, Gerdt pulls you in and makes you feel the frustration that the main character feels when she is treated unfairly by family members. Justice comes swiftly to those who deserve it, though, so the reader is not disappointed. This is also an excellent choice for those who enjoy religious-based fiction, but beware, it is not for the faint of heart!

Wonderful history that helps you reach into the rich past of a typical Northwest "lumber town". While the photos and art work of the present show you a city full of life and promise.
