The Book is interesting. It reviews cash flow analysis, which is generally done in the purchase/valuation of large companies. The previous edition has more detail. It would probably be good to own both editions.

WHAT CAN I SAY, WHADDA GUY HE WAS.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-08-27
Mr.Cab Calloway was one of a kind. I think I was the last person on this earth to purchase this thin paperback booklet. In this book, Mr.Calloway explains his childhood. In his words, he was the most rebellious, stubborn, unrelenting black S.O.B you've ever wanted to meet. In my words, his stubborn ways is what drove him to fame. This book tells how he got started in show business, watching his sister Blanche Calloway while on tour with her and her band. If you are a Cab Calloway fan, and want to learn more about his life and his journey through show business; then this is the book to read. Dempsey J. Travis captured Cab Calloway's true feelings and personality. Mr. Calloway also talked about his fondest memories of being on the road, performing. From the mouth of Mr.Calloway, his philosophy was: People should grab a hold on life and live it to the hilt. Life is a fleeing and old age is a creeping; you got to get to getting while the getting is good.

A Good Baseball History Book

Review Date: 2008-08-13
This book is a good read for those interested in baseball history. There are a lot of facts and figures about professional baseball in the 30's and early 40's. My interest in the book was personal. I grew up in the same town as the Travis's and knew Mr. Travis's oldest son, Tony. He and I were in the same high school graduating class (Jonesboro, Georgia, H.S., class of '61). I have been in the Travis home and found, just as the writer found, that Mr. Travis was a quiet and humble man. I did not know until later in my life the extent of his baseball career. I did find the history interesting, but I was more interested in the man rather than the baseball player. I recommend the book to baseball fans, and/or those who live or have lived in Clayton or Fayette Counties, Georgia.

A passion to help the suffering
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-21
Realizing the power and love of God at a young age I soon took painful account of the amount of human suffering everywhere. The dissonance was frustrating. It seemed that humanity was (and is) thirsting to death while sitting next to an artesian well; dying of hunger and begging, cup in hand, while squatting at the entrance of a modern-day supermarket. By the way, (and to comlete the symbolism) our father owns the supermarket!

In the first three chapters I spell out the myriad of ways in which God has exercised his healing heart upon his children in the time of Abraham all through the scriptures up through the era of Jesus and the Apostles. The awakening of the healing movement in the late 1800's is retraced in chapter four. Incidentally most all of the participants in the modern day healing movement can be traced to God working in the hearts of those who laid groundwork between the latter 1800's and early/mid 1900's.

The final chapter is dedicated to a couple dozen testimonials; stories of those who have been miraculously healed and are alive today to tell the tale.

The book includes a chart of healings found in the 'old' testament plus a comprehensive chart of the healings Jesus performed. There is also an original chart of the 11 Hebrew words for "healing"; they are listed and illustrated to enhance understanding of the Judeo-Christian roots of the concept of healing.

The objective of this book is to help people become fully aware of the power of God to heal them in body, soul and spirit. It is ultimately to assist people in the life and death struggle to realize that God is very real, very near, altogether compassionate and ready to touch them. They need only to respond to His beckoning of them.

Incidentally God's beckoning includes pain. Our problem is that nothing is so effective to get our attention.

My hope is that in reading this book you will be aware (perhaps for the first time) of the power of God AND the access that you have to His power through His Son Christ Jesus. His Son Jesus is to be enjoyed and shared.

An Uncommon Interdiciplinary Collection

The book is a useful collection of paper (some long, some short) on the definition and physics behind the "habitable zones" around stars. While perhaps not technical enough for all applications, it's nice to finally see many of these issues discussed in one volume, instead of spread throughout many different journals and texts. The climate of such planets is covered of course, but the addition of topics such as how stellar evolution influences the habitable zone (how long is the habitable zone habitable, for instance), the implications of high planetary obliquity, and atmospheric collapse of tidally locked planets round out the presentation. While somewhat lacking in math for such a text, perhaps the biggest negative I can see is that some of the material is not as up-to-date as I would like, but in a field like this that would be hard to do even if it was annually updated.

Better to pay under one dollar here than 8 dollars elsewhere on this site. I bought it for the Be Button story but there are 10 others thrown in.

Not your average gumshoe.

Review Date: 2003-08-15
Travis McGee is not your average gumshoe. He doesn't have an office or a secretary. He lives on a houseboat called the Busted Flush which he won in a poker game. He drives an old Rolls Royce that somebody cut in half and turned into a pick-up truck. And the only time he works is when he needs money for his on again, off again retirement. He has a unique philosophy. He wants to remain as anonomous as possible and be retired as much as possible. When he needs money he looks for somebody who has lost something of considerable value and makes them a deal. If he can recover it he gets half it's value. The idea being: Half of something is better than half of nothing. "Darker than Amber" is the first book in the series and they only get better and better as they go along. I highly recommend the whole series if you like off-beat characters and unique plots.

An early Patricia Sprinkle. Her characters are well developed, the plot well planned and the research extensive. Because she writes of the South, I am aware of the geography. These books are fun reads because they have a story and yet you can put it down and pick it up later and wont have to go back and find out 'where you were.'

This book is a great start for someone researching environmental toxins from a psychological perspective. It points you to the key academic journals and the subject headings provide you with keywords to search PsychLit or PsychInfo. A great reference material for someone studying psychology, sociology, or the environment.

Great Author Debut

Review Date: 2008-03-12
This is a great author debut. Simply told, this book warns the U.S. of our imperialist tendencies and that we are not immune to the greed of others. This book offers ideas to readers, which will expand their thinking on the subject of patriotism and the dangers it can create. Support this author.....by the book....share it with others!!!
