This is the authorReview Date: 2004-03-22
It is located at http://www.astanax.com and I hope you find it worthwhile. And sorry for those who think this book is a 5 star, I'm being modest and don't want to boast, so I'm giving myself a 3, in between 1 and 5.

A thoroughly enjoyable Southern mystery!Review Date: 2008-02-08
I found the characters to be very believable and the detail in which Sprinkle describes the nuances of Southern mannerism provides a good lesson in the sociology of the region.
The only challenge that I faced when reading the book was keeping track of so many characters. Each added a colorful element to the story, but I think the author also ended up having to jump around very quickly, and some of the characters may not have been as thoroughly developed as they could have been.
All in all, though, I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading other books in the Sheila Travis series.
Murder in the Charleston MannerReview Date: 2007-08-26
Other than that everything fell together satisfactorily. With each successive installment in this series Shiela Travis's character becomes more fully "fleshed out," more real, and I find myself looking forward with a delicious sense of anticipation to the next episode in her life.

You won't be able to put this book down!Review Date: 2005-07-19
He comes through so sincere!
Travis gives a backround on the town and people involved
in this incident. You will feel like you know all those involved.
He takes you right from the start up until now.
Travis Walton is a very humble man who went through an extraordinary experience. He explains in great detail.
You won't be able to put this book down! The book is now going for a pretty price but I would highly recommend it! It is worth the price! The Walton experience is a MUST READ!!
Good For Readers Who Know Nothing about the Walton ExperienceReview Date: 2005-07-04
However, there is not much to present because Walton was knocked unconscious by a beam of light and simply woke up five days later. Anyone who wants detail of his abduction will be disappointed. There is none because Walton can not remember much of what happened.
Nothing against Mr. Walton, but if you have heard the basic details of this story then the book probably won't tell you much and is sure not worth the price that is being charged because the book is out of print.
I have heard Mr. Walton interviewed and I have read this book, and I think pretty clearly something terrifying happened to him. I admire the fact he does not make up a bunch of stuff to fill out the book. At $6 it would be easy to recommend, but at the prices copies are going for......No way.

But what is the solution?Review Date: 2001-08-15
The book actually opens with an account of that very incident, and then goes onto track Jack's progress throughout primary and high school. The tale, though having occasional glimpses of happiness, ultimately ends with a boy struck down by depression and nearly homicidal with rage at his attackers.
The only criticism that I could make of the book is to say that, while documented without remarkable detail the many problems of conventional schooling, it fails to provide a solution to the many problems.
Jack ackknowledges many of his own faults, and how teachers ultimately went about solving these faults in the wrong way, but fails to say what SHOULD have been done. Or what should be done in the future? The prospect of alternative schooling is raised, but needed to be discussed in future detail I felt.
Otherwise, it was an absorbing read, well worth the time and highly reccommended.
Ryan.

A passion to help the sufferingReview Date: 2001-07-21
In the first three chapters I spell out the myriad of ways in which God has exercised his healing heart upon his children in the time of Abraham all through the scriptures up through the era of Jesus and the Apostles. The awakening of the healing movement in the late 1800's is retraced in chapter four. Incidentally most all of the participants in the modern day healing movement can be traced to God working in the hearts of those who laid groundwork between the latter 1800's and early/mid 1900's.
The final chapter is dedicated to a couple dozen testimonials; stories of those who have been miraculously healed and are alive today to tell the tale.
The book includes a chart of healings found in the 'old' testament plus a comprehensive chart of the healings Jesus performed. There is also an original chart of the 11 Hebrew words for "healing"; they are listed and illustrated to enhance understanding of the Judeo-Christian roots of the concept of healing.
The objective of this book is to help people become fully aware of the power of God to heal them in body, soul and spirit. It is ultimately to assist people in the life and death struggle to realize that God is very real, very near, altogether compassionate and ready to touch them. They need only to respond to His beckoning of them.
Incidentally God's beckoning includes pain. Our problem is that nothing is so effective to get our attention.
My hope is that in reading this book you will be aware (perhaps for the first time) of the power of God AND the access that you have to His power through His Son Christ Jesus. His Son Jesus is to be enjoyed and shared.
