YOu will not want to miss the Apple Valley Mysteries. I own every one, and I absolutely love them and am going to buy all of them for my friend's birthday. they aren't just for little kids, My Mom even likes them and I'm 14. In this book Jeanmarie and her friends get tangled up with the FBI in a very interresting mystery. THe thing I really like about the books is that there is always something to learn from the story. THe author does such a very good job explaining and discribing things that I can't put them down untill I'm finished. The books are set during World War II which just helps make them more interresting. I've read them all at least 3 times amd they never get old ! If you have never read them YOu HAVE TO READ THESE BOOKS! They are a must for your collection. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I wish the author would write more.

I love this Book!!! Personally this is my favorite book out of all of the Apple Valley mysteries. Jeanmarie is a spunky girl who is always ready to solve a mystery. Jeanmarie and all of the kids from the orphanage go to the circus. It's hot and all of a sudden the big circus tent is on fire. Jeanmarie and Pearl (her best friend) aren't sitting with the rest of the orphanage children. They must escape from the fire! How will they make it out in time? Well, the two end up in an old hospital. Jeanmarie has her appendix taken out and Pearl is left blind! The doctor says that Pearl may not be blind for long, but it seems hopeless. In this book the two girls along with their friend Wilfred make friends with a clown and a princess. They also find an old chapel and a thief in the hospital's basement. Jeanmarie makes friends with quite a few interesting people. The main question is will Pearl ever see again? And will she have to leave the orphanage to go live in a home for the blind? How will Jeanmarie live without her friend? Will it be Matron's fault that Pearl will have to leave Apple Valley forever? This is a book you will not want to miss. I enjoy every minute of this book and just finished reading it for the 5th time this morning! Hope you like it just as much!

The classic for piano technicians

First, disclaimer: I took a course taught by the author (Piano Technology, one semester, Montgomery College, in the 1980s, using this book as the class text). One result is that as I page through the book, I hear his gentle Kentucky accent in my head, and I remember his energetic, encouraging enthusiasm for anyone who was interested in the subject matter.
The book is a treasure of reference and reading material for anyone interested in piano construction, tuning, mechanics, repair, and/or general music theory and history. Even if there are now inexpensive tuning devices that guarantee equal temperament, a piano tuner needs a solid basis and knowledge of technique, and it's all here -- using a tuning hammer, the evolution and development of equal temperament, a specific theory and approach to tuning co-developed by the author, repairing and regulating vertical and grand pianos, and even the rudiments of operating a small business.
The breadth and depth of information packed into this 375 pages is impressive, but it's the clarity of the writing that's most surprising, including a certain sentimental charm that shows up in the tone of the narrative, for example in the Preface: "... I am a practical man and I use my two ears. You have two ears, too. So study hard, practice your tuning every day, and should some of these thoughts and ideals rub off, I shall be glad to know about it."

This is THE first systematic volume on light scattering by nonspherical particles and their practical applications. The historical foreword by van de Hulst, a legend in this area, was appreciated.
Its is up-to-date and very practical -- especially like the applications to geophysics, remote sensing, and planetary and space physics.

I never thought in a million years that I would end up an avid bowler; but that all changed when my younger brother began participating in Special Olympics bowling. I try to show up as often as possible to his games to cheer him on and a couple of times after his practice I played a few additional practice games with him for fun. Wouldn't you know it, I eventually caught the bug and I have been bowling ever since.
I saw this miniature book at the book store and decided to buy it in order to learn a little more about the game. Although the book is a short read, it is a well informed and interesting look at the history of bowling, complete with some really cool retro art work and pictures. It includes sections on `Innovations,' `Bowling Around the World,' `The Greats,' `Bowling Culture,' etc. This would make the perfect small gift - especially as a stocking stuffer - for anyone who loves the sport.

Through a series of five charming little stories for young children, Author Malinda Mitchell shares the adventures of Little Miss Dilly Dot, a long haired white alley kitten. Dilly Dot is a precocious, fun loving kitten, and like most children, frequently gets herself into trouble.
The story begins with Dilly Dot losing her family because she stayed too long playing with a friend. With help from Tasteless Rat and Bug Eyes Jim, she sets out to find her mother and siblings, narrowly avoiding danger along the way. Exhausted by the end of the day, she is found by a little girl who takes her home and ultimately enables her to find her family.
In Little Miss Dilly Dot Gets Lost, the kitten lets her curiosity overcome her good sense. Lost in the woods she must get help from a Rabbit to find her way back. The book concludes with a day at the Fair and finally a little taste of her own medicine, Dilly Dot meets Roger squirrel, a stubborn fellow who believes he can fly.
Mitchell has accurately captured the feel and typical vocabulary of a contemporary child in chronicling the adventures of Miss Dilly Dot. The prevailing theme running through all the stories is the value of being nice and polite, without being preachy. All the stories leave many opportunities for adults and children to discuss topics like manners, peer pressure and impulsive decisions through the entertaining and non-threatening behavior of this kitten.
The Little Miss Dilly Dot Stories will have mass appeal with their engaging characters and familiar themes.

Together with 56 international contributors with a multidisciplinary background the editors have succeeded to put forth the current thinking about applied research in the topic of intellectual disability.
This is an impressive book with 30 chapters devided into four sections: Historical and social context of research, approaches to measurements, research on the nature, characteristics and social context of intellectual disability and impact of support systems and services.
We found this book of great value as a summary of research issues involved with the search for more information in the field of intellectual disability, the ethical issues involved with research for this population and service research.
We believe this book will be helpful to both , students, researchers and practitioners in the multidisciplinary field of intellectual disability.
