For Christians who desire to make Christ first, this book is an oustanding tool.

After reading First Things First by Covey, for me and perhaps other Christians this is a great next step in the journey of prioritizing and surrendering each day to His purpose and His glory.

Even if you feel you have lost that burning desire, Patrick Morley's humble approach can rekindle the freshness of Christ.

Betcha' can't read just one segment!

Reading this book without a highlighter is like picking strawberries without a bucket. "We seek the God we want instead of the God who is", writes Morley. All too often, our "American Gospel has evloved into a gospel of addition without subtraction. It is the belief that we can add Christ to our lives without subtracting sin". Morley's beginning with this approach leads the reader into an assortment of convictions that furrow the brow with, "Wow! That's the way I feel, too." This book should be required reading for all Sunday School teachers and Pastors. The writer's insightful brevity provides exciting illustrations and supportive connections to Scripture's truths.

Wow! I love this book!

I picked up this treasure for a quarter at a garage sale! It was brand new & I'm sure the owner had never read it, or they would have kept it. I wanted to see if others felt the same as I do about it, so I logged on here to read the reviews. It is so relevant to everyday living, so refeshing, so easy to read, so real, etc, etc. I will be recommending it everyone I know!

It dares you to come out of the closet to face the real self

Reading this book literally puts you right in the face with the details of our life that are either hidden or ignored. It takes courage and longing to want to make a difference in life to go beyond the title of each chapter. However, once past that, you will find a life changing process taking place within.

A devotional book that bares our life and demands an honest response from us before the Throne of Grace.

An Exciting Novel

Review Date: 2007-04-01
'The Warning' is a fast paced suspense novel.

It revolves around Buddy Korda who is a nondescript assistant bank manager in a small town. He is chosen by God as a modern day prophet to warn about a looming economic disaster. After thousands of people start listening to him and taking his financial advice, some financial power players do everything in their power to discredit and attack him.

Mr. Bunn has some very descriptive writing. In describing some of the financial sharks in New York, he writes the following:

"The mountains of Wall Street were home to their own brand of trolls. Only here they were dressed by Valentino, driven by Porsche, fueled by liters of caffeine. They hoarded their gold and guarded it with bloodthirsty vengeance. They substituted handheld faxes and satellite links for broadaxes, but they were trolls just the same. They even had their own language. Sunlight scared them. Fresh air was as alien as a moral code."

As readers of this review can tell, Mr. Bunn certainly has a way with words. His story in interesting, creative, and thought provoking. I recommend this book.

This book was riveting with suspense and intrigue. I especially enjoyed the author's knowledge of the financial arena and the spiritual insight into the Bible and how God has worked in the past. I immediately read the follow up book, "The Ultimatum"

My first experience with this author was with the Book of Hours. After thoroughly enjoying that book, I perused the church library for another one of Mr. Bunn's offerings.

The Warning, was possibly one of the best books I have read in quite a while. An average Joe, named Buddy Korda, is chosen by God to spread the word about the eminent collapse of the financial markets.

Who will listen to this assistant bank branch manager? At first, very few. But as the story progresses, we see that the Spirit of GOD gets the message out to His flock. While those that are from the Wall Street elite try to set him up, harm him, and make continued threats.

This book is an awesome story of how God chooses people of humble standing so that the message is the focus and not the messenger. Also, no one can stand against the ultimate will of our Creator.

Mr. Bunn's expertise in international banking is evident throughout the book.

This book is a must read for Christians at this turn of the century. The inspiration to follow God's leading in all that he has for us to do and trust Him to provide the strength is the main theme. The exortation to live within our means and be satisfied with what the Lord has blessed us with is the underlying theme. The writing, as always with Bunn, is gripping, hard to put down. I am ignorant of financial jargon, but Bunn even made this part of the book relatively easy to understand. I am a big fan of T. Davis Bunn and this book was up to his usual high standards.

"The Warning" is a fictitious account of a looming economic disaster. God instructs banker Buddy Korda to warn his people of the coming crisis through a series of dreams. Buddy knows that the economy is strong, and the stock market has never seen such high daily closings (sounds very familiar). Will Buddy overcome his doubts and fears to warn God's people? Read "The Warning" to find out!

The recipes in this book are some of the best available if you are serious about eating a healthy diet. They are not only vegetarian but they eliminate the refined oils and sugars which are such a major factor in causing diseases like atherosclerosis, heart disease, adult onset diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. They are the recipes used at the Newstart lifestyle program where they get excellent results with just diet and exercise. The recipes are delicious; we use them in our home all the time. I highly recommend this cookbook to my patients.

The Wolves of Pilovo is a fast paced thriller! It kept me on the edge of my seat. The scenes of the attacks were truly terrifying. The descriptions of the wolves and the way they communicated were amazing. The author made me feel as if I knew the villagers personally which made their interactions with the wolves that more frightening. I would definitely recommend this book! Not only was it fun and exciting to read, I learned things about a place I know I will never see for myself. Fantastic!

Hoyne balanced the technical and artistic aspects of his subjects in a wonderful way. In doing so, he crossed the boundary between illustration and art that so often confounds marine painters, and while he may not escape the character of a genre artist, he is clearly at the upper end of the spectrum.

The text is informative and well-written. (For sailors, in particular, it will be chilling to see how many of the vessels that Hoyne painted had short lives and sad endings.) Hoynes' description of his methods, quoted at length, provide valuable insight into the work and the artist.

It's so fulfilling to find the complete history behind the preeminent artist life story. The sea and the fishermen [dorymen] who lived that lifestyle are certainly represented in the highest by this artist. It seems that God Almighty allowed this man the extra years necessary to express his great love for the sea and the men who go down to the sea in ships. Wonderfully, completely illustrated!

In his book: Y2K: You Can Burn This Book!, Tom Potter has done an excellent job covering the basic elements all our communities should consider as the Year 2000 approaches. We've all spent many months and considerable resources reconfiguring our hardware and software so they will continue to support our businesses - now we need to look at our personal preparedness efforts and those of our employees. Potter devotes a chapter to each area of fundamental needs (water, heat, power, food, etc), explaining where disruptions might occur and then providing suggestions for different levels of planning. For a detailed resource that follows up on topics mentioned in many preparedness primers, this is just the book you need. ---Deben Tobias, Board of Directors; Business for Social Responsibility

Tom Potter's Y2K: You Can Burn This Book! is an excellent resource for anybody concerned with disaster preparedness. With an emphasis on personal and household preparation, he sets a positive but proactive tone for pursuing these preparation activities. Using his expertise in industrial energy use, he discusses the scope of neighborhood preparation that Boulder > is also concerned about, and offers a broad range of solutions. Potter's book is a great resource for taking that first step toward being informed - and ultimately being prepared. He's also been an excellent speaking resource for Boulder County Y2K meetings. > --K. Garcia, Community Coordinator, Boulder County Y2K Preparedness Group >

Unlike some of the other Y2K books I looked at, this one offers a reasonable approach to personal, family, and community preparedness. In some ways, it's unfortunate that it's linked to Y2K, because it is such a useful preparedness book. Living in earthquake country, I can really appreciate the author's checklists, worksheets, and insights on how to calculate how much water, food, and energy a family will need to ride out any crisis. Also, the very optimistic outlook and focus on non-violent responses to crises was a unique approach, given many of the other guides that seem focused on seige mentality. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who lives in an area that is subject to earthquakes, floods, blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, or any other possible disasters, including Y2K.

Your Chariot Awaits is a brilliant match between mystery and humor. The protagonist's viewpoint, as one who has just turned 60, is a refreshing change from the many books on the market featuring twenty-and-thirty-somethings. The appealing characters had me rooting for them all the way through. Lorena McCourtney has spun a tight yarn, and kept me chuckling while she did it. I recommend this story highly, and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Andi McConnell's life is falling about. Just before her sixtieth birthday, her job is downsized and her boyfriend breaks up with her. In the midst of all this, she gets the surprise of her life. A long forgotten uncle has left her his limo. She really doesn't intend to keep it, but it is so much fun driving it around town.

The fun disappears a couple days later when Andi thinks she hears a noise outside. Going to investigate, she is knocked unconscious. When she comes to, she finds a body in the trunk of her limo. A body that wasn't there that afternoon. With the police zeroing in on her as a suspect, Andi decides to investigate and try to find some other suspects for the police. Can she clear her name?

This debut mixes murder with plenty of fun. No, it's never absurd or over the top, but I often had a grin on my face reading about Andi's antics. Really helping things along is her new friend Fritz, a former TV star who helps out. The plot was rather poorly paced, sometimes stopping for character stuff that really doesn't advance the story. The ending was plenty exciting, on the other hand. And the Christian sub-plot was interesting as well.

I have several of author Lorena McCourtney's books I haven't read yet, so I'll have to change that. In the mean time, I'm looking forward to Andi's next adventure.

You'll love this addition to the series

Andi McConnell is celebrating her sixtieth birthday--but turning sixty is not for the weak of heart. She is fired from her job, breaks up with her boyfriend, and receives an unexpected inheritance from an eccentric uncle--a sleek black stretch limo.

Andi isn't quite sure what she's going to do with the limo, but it sure isn't what happens. Less than twelve hours after getting the vehicle, her ex-boyfriend's body is found in the trunk. As the prime suspect, Andi wants to prove her innocence, so she joins forces with a nosy but charming former TV private eye in a hilarious attempt to find the killer.

I fell in love with Lorena McCourtney's books with her previous series (which ended long before I was ready!) so I was totally thrilled to get to review her newest book, the first in the Andi McConnell Mystery series, Your Chariot Awaits.

Andi is a wonderful heroine, old enough to be my mother, but lively and full of life. I fell in love with her and with her nosy TV private eye, Fitz. The secondary characters are all well developed.

There are plenty of red herrings in the book to keep the reader guessing, but I correctly guessed the murder before the end of the book. Still, it was well written enough that I had to keep reading to see what happened next. I love this new series and am anxiously awaiting the next book in it.

Lorena McCourtney's latest character Andi McConnell bursts onto the fiction scene in Your Chariot Awaits. As the book opens, Andi turns sixty, loses her job at the local insurance company due to a merger, and breaks up with her boyfriend. Oh, and if that isn't enough to make any woman seek her bed with a box of bonbons and a chick flick, Andi inherits a shiny limousine from her uncle and before she can decide what to do with it, a dead body is found in the truck. Not just any body, but that of her recently estranged boyfriend, Jerry who she threatened with a shovel in front of her neighbors.

Andi soon becomes a prime suspect in the murder and has no choice but to investigate to clear her name. She teams up with her new acquaintance and potential future love interest, Fitz. Though Fitz's more than willing to help Andi solve the murder, his only qualification for the job is the role of a detective that he played on an old television show. What follows is a bumbling search for the killer, leaving you laughing and smiling all the way through.

Though Andi is older than many protagonists in today's fiction market, McCourtney writes Andi in a way that all generations of readers can relate to her. She's spunky, vulnerable, and shares the same fears we all deal with everyday. Even I, an avowed computer nerd, embraced the woman who doesn't own even one computer. Really. Not one.

In addition to the fun read and enjoyable characters, McCourtney weaves in a strong spiritual message. She exposes the non-believer Andi to Christianity through a warm, pregnant twenty-something neighbor who encourages but never preaches. And, the unlikely friendship between the two women is believably written and natural despite the years difference in age.

So if you're looking for a well written cozy mystery, one that makes you laugh and smile, pick up McCourtney's Your Chariot Awaits. You won't be disappointed.

Lorena McCourtney is back with a new series that proves that just because you're over 50 doesn't mean you still can't have fun. Andi McConnell has just been laid off from her job. Things are still ok though because she's just inherited a limo from a crazy uncle she barely knows. But before she can enjoy her sweet new ride, she's knocked unconscious and wakes up to find a dead body in her trunk. Now Andi has to be on her guard as her house is ransacked and she's being watched to see if she knew the killer's secrets. With her pregnant tenant and an ex TV detective to back her up, will she be able to find the killer before he gets to her?

This was a wonderfully fun book to read. I love all the characters in this book. Andi, Fitz, and Joella seem like an unlikely threesome that end up gelling well together. Andi is a wonderful character. I love especially that she was dating a guy younger than her in the beginning of the story. She's very feisty and doesn't consider an age to be a problem to her at all. She doesn't act her age basically. Other than the occasional references to her turning 60, I wouldn't have thought of her as being that old at all. I do hope that in the next book Joella is able to play another role because I like her character very much. I think a series on her would be fun to read as well. Fitz reminds me of an aging Magnum PI, not really old but a TV actor who's past his prime. He has good chemistry with Andi and I'm hoping something will come out of it. The action in the book is fast paced especially the last few chapters. The mystery is very good and I had no clue who the killer really was until the very end. I really admire Andi for still wanting to own that limo even after knowing there was a dead body in it. I would have gotten that car destroyed! While there isn't as much humor as there was in the Ivy Malone stories, I still laughed a lot while reading this book. How Andi gets the car from her eccentric uncle and his way of distribution made me giggle a lot. Especially funny is the scene when Joella thinks she's in labor but it's really due to bad indigestion. The part when the pair realize how bad their breath really is was a hoot. I really can't wait until the next book comes out in the series. It's given me the urge to go find a limo and ride around now!

I first read this book at least 15 years ago at the recommendation of a friend who loaned it to me, and I found it revolutionary. It was out of print then, and I'm glad to see it's back.

By identifying four basic personality types, Littauer lays out a very common sense foundation for understanding those around you, why they behave as they do, and why they relate to us the way they do, for good or ill, and vice versa.

Far from pigeonholing people, Littauer offers the freedom to be who you truly are, and thus challenges you to offer that same grace to others, as well as to have reasonable and realistic expectations of them. She also shows you how to recognize when someone is wearing a "mask", i.e., being who they are "supposed" to be, via peer or family influence, rather than their true self, which pretty much never benefits anyone. And she identifies key strengths and weaknesses borne by each personality type: armed with this knowledge, you can work to build your strengths and minimize your weaknesses, and encourage others to do the same.

This book introduced me to the personalities. The exercises at the ends of the chapters helped me discover my personality type and pinpointed a mask that I had been wearing. It also gave me a new appreciation for my parents and grandparents and the influence they have been on my life. It has really expanded my understanding of others. I've found myself getting along better with people, even those "irregular" people in my life.

I can not say enough wonderful things about this book. Littauer's Personality Plus, the predecessor to this book was informative, but this one really dives into the personalities in depth as they relate to our tempermental make-up and family history. She also adds a deeper spiritual element to her work, which challenges the reader even further. I can't imagine a better tool for finding out why you are the way you are, who and what influenced your personality, and why we all should accept ourselves and each other the way God created us.

Excellent book, easy to read, concepts are very enlightening. The four personality groups make more sense to me than any other self-help books I've ever read. Recommended reading!

This book was fabulous. It clearly sets up a classroom management plan and it goes through step by step how to set it up in the classroom. Even if you decide not use their counting system, one can still benefit from the practice in identifying, setting, and following through on limits.

Super!

This is a great book! My entire team purchased a copy. It was easy to read and understand, and it makes so much sense! We're all looking forward to using the techniques. We know other teachers that say this really works.

I teach Kindergarten and have 5 very difficult boys. I read the book Monday and started Tuesday. By Thursday I was amazed.

We bought this as a gift for our soon-to-be first grader. We have been traveling a lot this summer and the fandex is a fun, easy way for our daughter to look at the states we have been through. Concise and easily manipulable for little people.

Fabulous for Fifth Graders

My kids find the Fandex format easy to use, and the information on them accessible. We have several, and they're fun for all of us to use together.

I like the fact that each state has a map, as well as pertinent info: Admitted to the Union; if and when Seceded from the Union; if and when Readmitted to the Union; Nickname; Motto; Capital; Bird; and Flower. There are also several paragraphs of pertinent information about each state, with some history and a description of the character and things, which make it unique.

The only quibble I have about these decks is that sometimes when they're completely fanned out, the edges of the illustrations get caught up in each other, making it hard to close them properly. But other than that, they're cute, informative, and a nice format for kids.

Fun and Educationally Stimulating

As a curriculum developer, I am constantly on the lookout for educational products that will enhance textbook study. I must say that the Fandex Family Field Guide 50 States far exceeded my expectations! Having enjoyed history and geography in school, I was surprised by how much I learned while reviewing this guide. It is full of interesting facts and tidbits about each state while also presenting important information that students should know.

Each card has a topographical map of the state and lists when it was admitted into the union, nickname, capital, motto, bird, flower, and has a small picture of the flag. The topographical maps are detailed enough to be able to get a grasp on how far it is from San Francisco to Los Angeles, CA, for example, and important national parks and monuments are also included. A small outline map on the back of each card shows the state in relation to the continental U.S. Information on each state's industry is included in the text.

Overall, I was impressed by the amount of information presented in such an interesting format. Students who enjoy history and geography will find 50 States particularly interesting, but the unique format will engage even more reluctant students.
